He hasn't played in Canada since 2015, so yeah CHL rules don't apply. Thanks OTH and Tincup. Does anyone know what/why the rationale is for this 20 year old rule with juniors? I know there is some value to go back to juniors, but if you completely dominate, from a development and growth the AHL would be better, right? You basically learn to be a pro, acclimate yourself to the NHL parent team system, assuming they would play similar. The staff can monitor you (weight training, nutrition, etc.) and access would be much easier. It’s a financial thing and a way to keep junior hockey sustainable. The CHL relies on gate revenue, who’d want to watch if the stars are all gone young. Doesn’t always seem fair but there you go.

Junior teams develop the players at their own expense, and it is important for them to maintain a quality on ice product for their fans to keep the money flowing. The NHL pays the junior teams $100,000 for each draft pick to help offset costs. The Kitchener Rangers, London Knights along with other top junior teams do a great job teaching the players how to be a pro with top notch training facilities.

I wish the AHL would add TOI to their stat sheets. MAF's agent concurs.

These rules were put in place also to protect the kids.
Hockey should be just a small part of a player's life.
Most teenagers (even the high draft picks) are better off emotionally/psychologically remaining reasonably close geographically to their hometowns where their friends and families live. The players do have lives (friends, girls etc) away from the game. These rules help most minimize social disruption and provide parents with some control of where their kids play.
Many will never reach the pros. The kids who don't pursue that route can finish high school then transfer to college, university or the trades after they are done.

Like 20+ years I was in my kid 20s when I got into ST. I have asked the same question too. I’ve asked the powers that be. The owners of the team. The “Jason Spezza” rule goes like this. A player that plays 4 years in the CHL does not have to play a 5th year. At 19, Spezza going back to Jrs (My Spitfires at the time) wasn’t going to help him. So they put the 4 year rule (Jason Spezza rule) in effect. That same time they also signed an agreement with the NHL not to pluck out most 18/19 years olds to head to the farm. The reason? Simple. If Spezza did not have those same 18/19 year olds to play against when he was 16/17. He wouldn’t have developed like he did. Imagine if the top 10-15 scorers in each CHL league were in the AHL? I think that’s wrong. It would deplete the league. Also. I have not seen one kid that went back that got ruined? We’ve seen how many got ruined by bringing them in too early. The CHL is a very very good league. I’d bet that the top CHL team would fair well against some of the top AHL teams. It’s still very good hockey. Just a slight step slower due to kids playing and not adults!!!

Two PP goals, an EN, could have been worse. They’ll need to get some steady lines and pairings. Again, I’d like to see the TOI to see how the ice is being distributed.

Beaudin did not play. Galvas, who played in his place, was a minus 2.
Neither looks like a long term fit with the organization any longer. Ian Mitchell will likely be sent down soon which will make the defence situation in Rockford even more crowded.
Why not trade one or more of these guys for a goalie with some pro experience?

Are the people that produce the IceHog's game highlight videos asleep at the wheel? I seem to recall last year the highlight videos were available on their website the morning after the game the previous night. Along with the gamesheet. So far this season, there is no highlight video available the next morning, like there was last season.
Or are they really there but I'm just not looking in the right place? I haven't even found a highlight video for their season opener back on the 22nd. If you click on the game recap for their game on the 22nd, a 4-1 loss, you'll get an article for their game on the 23rd, a 6-3 loss to the Moose. Is it just me?

Thanks GT. One thing nice to see was out of the six IceHog goal scorers, four of them were prospects. I'm also curious if Stauber got injured and Wells had to come in, or if Sorensen is just trying to get playing time for both goalies. The change was about midway in the game and it looks like Stauber played a couple more minutes before Wells came in.

Weeks isn't having a good start to his pro career, down 5-2 in a matinee game with only 28 shots against.
