My best guess is that ketchup on a hot dog is a typical "kid" thing to do and the doddering old dustfarts out there think that people, once they grow up, shouldn't act like kids anymore. I say fuck it; you're an adult do whatever the fuck you want. I don't like pineapple on pizza or ketchup on hot dogs, but I don't shame those who like it. It would be like people shaming me for putting sriracha on my fries. Most big cities with actual first rate cuisine do have their own traditions ,I'm not sure what age has to do with respecting those traditions unless only us dodders respect anything any more. I'll never shame anyone for their eating habits OR the traditions they grew up with. I say fuck it too, if somebody goes to Gibson's and smoothers a $60 fillet with tomato juice and sugar....have at it. Seen rednecks pour ketchup on spaghetti and think they're eatin' Italian.....LOL! I've heard people say ketchup on a hot dog "...is okay for kids (since kids tend to love sweet things and ketchup does have a lot of sugar in it), but once you're an adult that shit don't fly." Keep in mind I don't consider "doddering old dustfarts" as a direct correlation with age. You can be young and be an old dustfart. It's the same as those who try to tell people that they are "too old for cartoons" "too old for comic books" "too old to collect <random fandom - sports or otherwise> cards", ad nauseum, and I've seen people in their teens try that shit. Just let people enjoy their dose of happiness and stop being an assclown, ya know? P.S. My in-laws on occasion do the ketchup-in-pasta thing, much to my dismay (i find it nasty). They aren't rednecks. It ain't Italian, but whatever, it's a quick meal.

People can put ketchup in their breakfast cereal or pour it over their heads for all I care and I don't expect those who worship the team from afar to understand the city's traditions......LOTTA "assclowns"! If a teenager is telling you what to eat, watch or collect, just tell him to STFU. If a grownup recommends the best Italian joynt in Chicago.......tell him to STFU too and just pass the ketchup I guess.

If I had to put one on my hotdog. I’d put ketchup. Ketchup flavoured chips are here in Canada. People love them and my Michigan friends always ask me to bring them some. But I’d think mustard on Doritos would be like the rehiring of Scambo. What an awful taste that’d leave!!!

Ketchup flavoured chips are here in Canada. People love them and my Michigan friends always ask me to bring them some. i was never a fan of the ketchup chips. as a kid it was plain, sour cream & onion, bbq, and salt & vinegar. (old dutch brand) ketchup and a host of other exotic flavours came later in my teens. for a quarter, you could be on your bike eating a bag of chips and sucking back an orange crush while somehow pedaling your bike with no hands. fook me....today if i briefly take one hand off the handlebars i feel like i shouldn't be so foolhardy. but you want to see chip varieties, you should come to thailand. lays has 58 varieties here (thankyou google) and i'd say i've seen the majority of them on the shelves around where i live. some of the more interesting flavours include: popcorn crab curry wasabi mayo truffle salmon chili lime spicy lobster roasted chili paste spicy nori seaweed baked cheese w/tamarind paste shrimp tom yum hot chili squid icy lemon salted egg and for a taste of home there are lasagna, cheeseburger and mac & cheese flavours. i don't eat chips much, but i had to try the mac & cheese. it was a bit disappointing but i give them full marks for trying. i do have a pretty bad cheetos habit, though. i'm getting help.

I have to say, after a couple of weeks of me having to handhold a bunch of fuckwits at work who should have known better, "Fuck This Place" was a good song to decompress to--and that's a newer one. At least Blothar used to be Beefcake back in the day. BTW, if you (or anyone here) is ever in Richmond, VA, I'd recommend the GWARBar.

Some sound like the flavour of chips you described. Like seaweed and stuff like that. I give ‘em credit for trying to reinvent the wheel of food. But I can’t eat that. I have friends from the Philippines 🇵🇭. And I’m sure you’ve heard of Balut. Where the duck is formed in the egg and they boil it and eat it. I just could never bring myself to that. I’m sure there’ll be a chip flavour in that. I remember back in the day taking back pop bottles to get more pop and chips. The good ol days when recycling was the norm, paper bags, glass bottles etc. But I don’t remember quarter doing much for me. Could get me 5 nickel candies, and no tax!!! I will say that the Jalapeño cheetos are embarrassingly awesome. I get ashamed of myself for polishing off a big bag of those things.

I’m sure there’ll be a chip flavour in that. i don't know if i'd go as far to say they're disgusting but different strokes for different folks i guess. but yeah...not sure they'd sell in the western hemisphere. i think i'm pretty open minded but there are foods here i haven't tried and might not ever. they make this fish paste (traditionally) by just throwing a variety of small fish (whole, head, guts and all) among other ingredients into a clay pot and burying it for a few months to ferment. i've read eating that can give you pathogens and liver flukes/parasites so i'd avoid that one, although almost for sure i've unknowingly ate it at some point. it's extremely ripe when it's done as you'd imagine. then there's a city (forget the name) but i believe it's on the border with cambodia, they still eat dogmeat there. it's supposed to be illegal in thailand now, but i remember a few years back you'd see a pickup with a cage in the back with a bunch of dogs, and a bunch of plastic buckets/washtubs on top. they idle thru town announcing their arrival on a P.A., and if you had a dog you wanted rid of, you could trade if for a plastic tub. the dogs would be hauled to cambodia to be sold at market. pretty sad, and eating dogmeat for me would definitely be a hard no. another one i haven't experienced is eating the afterbirth (placenta) from a cow. i guess some guy will follow the cow around, and when the calf finally drops he catches the rest of what follows in a bucket. my gal says it's a delicacy and you see vendors on the side of the road selling it when we go to the city. i'm sure there's nothing wrong with it and i imagine it's quite healthy but speaking of ketchup, i might need a lot for that. i could go on and on. i've eaten pork intestine (surprisingly tasty/tender), i've ate rat (tasted alright), and you can buy "cakes" of coagulated pig's blood that they cut into squares and put in soups. of course i've ate a wide range of bugs/worms which i don't mind as long as they're deeply fried, not crazy about biting into a soft one. i love durian actually (it's that fruit people say stinks so bad) but for a foreigner it's likely an acquired taste like so many other things here. even in modern supermarkets in the city you'll see in the freezers thing like cow udder, cow lips and cow nose. then you go to the fresh pork section and see something like the face of a pig (the skin off the head in one piece) which is a bit unsettling at first glance. then in the poultry section the sell what i call "chicken knees", just raw bits of tendon and cartilage from chicken joints...they bread them and deep fry them in restaurants...very tasty. i try not to begrudge people on their choice of diet but obviously it's hard not to question some of their food choices, even if they've been doing it for generations.

i think this story is more about the journey than the ketchup chips. they drove from virginia to niagara falls, ontario in an open jeep that maxed out at about 42 mph. i'm not sure i'd walk across the street for ketchup chips but everybody's different. on the subject of cross border foods and tastes. just curious how widely available mott's clamato juice is in the u.s.? and is beer and tomato juice (or beer and a clam (clamato)) a thing in the u.s.? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamatoover the years i've worked with guys from many nations and know expats from many nations living here in thailand and there's not one person that didn't make a face and call me bonkers for even thinking beer and tomato juice would be even remotely palatable. i don't drink near as much as i used to anymore, but a beer and a juice with healthy shakes of salt and pepper was the go-to hangover remedy of choice back when i was a total piss head. one or 2 just to knock the rough edges off. (maybe 20% tomato juice, the rest beer) anybody a fan?

Drinking beer and tomato juice mix is believed to have started in the United States in the mid-20th century. But in all seriousness, I hear it was a base for Manhattan Clam chowder. I've never had beer and tomato juice, and I really don't want to try. Hell, I've never even tried a Guinness float...and apparently that's a thing

honestly, i never could understand why people get so lathered up over ketchup/no ketchup on a hotdog, or something like pineapple on a pizza...like it's some kind of religious topic. Nor do I shame them but if you got fries with that dog and scoop up ketchup with them then having it on a dog is overkill. Just my thoughts as who just eats a dog without a side? As far as pineapple? I don't eat them and only use them for 1 thing and 1 thing only and that is throw them in a blender with some coconut milk and a lot of Captain Morgan give it a whirl and pour it in a glass.

Most big cities with actual first rate cuisine do have their own traditions ,I'm not sure what age has to do with respecting those traditions unless only us dodders respect anything anymore. Hey I are a redneck and no we never do that unless we add hot dogs for meatballs . Guess that settles the argument if ketchup belongs on hot dogs 🤪 But I do have to learn these people in Georgia that my John Deere riding mower is called a Zamboni and I don't mow the lawn I resurface it.

I'll give you the pineapple with coconut and the Captain... As for a hot dog without a side? Usually at the ballgame. Last one my fam-damily did I had one with grilled onion, kraut, and mustard. yum But of course someone would find that disguising.
