A real bleh type game. Lackluster effort. Guessing they'll be several guys from this game heading down tomorrow

A real bleh type game. Lackluster effort. Guessing they'll be several guys from this game heading down tomorrow stauber and ludwinski come to mind first for me but there will be others of course. stauber didn't let in any stinkers but he didn't make saves he had to make either. and ludwinski just looked a bit lost out there, managing a -3 in under 9 minutes of ice time. no shots and no hits either.

1st poor performance of the preseason A real bleh type game. Lackluster effort. Missed it, but looks like I didn't miss much. My opinion: Good to get a bad one in the preseason to see how the kids recover from it.

In Richardson’s presser he mentioned Kurashev being tweaked. Anyone know anything about that?

The d-zone coverage last night looked a lot like it did a couple years ago. It got better last season under Richardson so last night was probably more a result of the combination of young and inexperienced players together with experienced bad players - and not something systemic we need to worry about.
I have to keep reminding myself this season will be about getting young players experience in NHL games more so than individual player or team success. Success will be measured in the strides the young players take. Taking Bedard as the first case in point - he was given a valuable primary lesson on the NHL game he needs to figure out - and that is more important in the long run than scoring a goal in the game last night.

Good point. I too have to remind myself the preseason is for learning and experimenting and not for winning. The lineups are constantly shuffling for good reasons and not to keep me excited or entertained. If I weren’t so eager to see the young players and how they look, I wouldn’t bother watching any of these. When I’m watching I want to see Bedard and Reichel score on every shift but need to come back to the reality that they still have a LOT to learn despite their natural talent.

Plus a lot of the young guys played in back to back games, and Stauber is 4th in the depth chart for goalies. Once the team and lines are set I doubt they'll been blown out 6-1 much, if at all.

Yep - there was a wide disparity in NHL experience between the teams last night. Detroit didn't have their top players in the game but they had guys with NHL experience who played fast and hard and, at times, overwhelmed the Hawks players. Not that I believe the Hawks full opening night lineup is going to be better than the Detroit full opening night lineup but the veterans in the Hawks lineup won't be overwhelmed and out of their element like many of the guys last night were.
