I can’t believe it’s been 10 years already. There has been some really good commentary from the team about why it was so special and why this team could of been like the Bulls dynasty if it weren’t for the cap. Even when things have been bleak we can all cherish that run in 2010 along with 2013 and 2015.

ah yes, June 9 2010.....
I had typed out a whole wrap up, ranking the Cup wins and a bit about each, but then I tried to scroll up on this phone and when I did it refreshed the page and *poof*..... so now we will just do 2010 and those other celebrations will have their remembrance when they hit 10 years old...
I moved to Chicago from MI in the fall of 2009, moved into the shoebox the ex gf was living in in Edgewater. I had lived in MI my whole life, only able to see the 'hawks play on occasion - mostly against the wangs. so needless to say, I was on overload once I moved to the city (the ex and I had been doing the long distance thing for almost 2 years at that point, so whenever I visited her it was always time to watch the 'hawks). first night there, jobless and solo cuz the ex was at work, was Hossa vs the Sharks in his Blackhawks debut. I didn't miss a single game the rest of that season. once I was employed I scheduled around the 'hawks, including the entire playoff run...
the night of game 6 was an interesting one. I'd been in the city only about 7 months and while I'd made friends, I was still used to watching the 'hawks play on my own cuz no one in MI was interested unless they were playing the wangs and I didn't need that harassment half the time. so the ex was working that night and I was home alone. good place to be, i figured. i had tickets in hand for game 7, so either i get to see a win tonight or we are going to a winner take all in two days, i thought.
I dunno about most here, but I have a hard time sitting still during bigger playoff games and I NEVER sit down during OT... so i was already on my feet when 88 threw the shake n bake on Timonen. as soon as he threw his hands up, I was already jumping up and down and yelling. I knew it was in, Kaner told me all I needed to know. the Chicago Blackhawks had won the fucking Stanley Cup.
the texts started before the goal was confirmed. I had many years worth of harassing to deal with at that point and I gave it as good as I had gotten. lotta laughs with old friends and new via the tele. then Gary came out to hand out some trophies. first it was my favorite player on the team, and soon to be all time favorite player, getting the Conn Smythe, justifying all the smack talk toward my wang friends starting his rookie season (this 19 guy is gonna be OUR Captain #19). then the Cup came out. I was happy, smiling, overjoyed, beyond ecstatic... and when Tazer lifted it over his head, I fricking lost it... that was the moment it became "real", and while he searched for 81 to hand it off to, I sobbed like a little kid, smiling all the way through...
after that, it was time to get more high, open the scotch, hand out some more texts, and thoroughly enjoy the rest of the skates and interviews. once the broadcast on NBC was done, it was change it to the local channels and about then i discovered NHL network was replaying the game shortly, so over there i went and watched it all over again, the whole game, the goals, Toews getting dinged and obviously not ok, Kane with the winner, the hoisting and such... I was still up when the ex got home at 8am...
the next day, it was time to buy some t shirts, although I spent a decent part of the rewatch buying shit online as well... take my money, thanks... sadly, I wasn't able to work the next day (I called in sick before I went to bed 😅), so it was just out on the town, high fiving strangers. then it was the 6am red line trip downtown as few days later... we got there early, but not early enough, so we were on the rail but a couple blocks from the stage on MI ave. close ups with all the buses... Kaner spraying us with champagne... still have the pic the ex took of Toews hoisting the Cup amongst the confetti coming down from the windows above... then the zamboni and the horse back police... and then time to jump the fence and follow the boys to the stage... the ex being claustrophobic but dammit woman you are gonna deal cuz:The Cup. the rap. the "anyone know a good dentist". Buff and the belt. Chicagoooooooo. all of it. best celebration BY FAR of the three. this one wasn't clean like the next two, this one was dirty, visceral, a real outpouring. I remember after going to the ex's job (Prentice) to take a piss and how odd it felt to be in a controlled environment like that again and how I couldn't wait to get back outside and high five another stranger...
what a night (and week! and summer!) that was...

To the bolded,YOU ARE A GREAT FAN MY FRIEND!LOL! 2010 was my only trip downtown where I hooked up with my brother, cousin and best bud after taking the train in from the far western hamlet of LaFox Il. Being the next to last, rural stop on the line meant you'd see a dozen sleepy-eyed commuters waiting to stumble aboard on the typical week day. I thought something was up when I grabbed one of the last spots in an otherwise half empty(at most) overly large parking lot,the crowd of Hawk jersey wearing lunatics waiting on that platform must have shocked the engineer and conductors...….it shocked me. All eight cars were full after the first three stops and we pretty much did an express the rest of the way, much to the dismay of the poor bastards tryin' to get to work. The MASS of red wearing humanity on the loop streets was an even bigger shock even though I expected a huge turnout. The mile walk from the station to where I met the boys was normally a quieter part of downtown Chicago but not that day. We watched the busses full of our young heroes roll slowly by on Washington and Wabash about a mile from the stage at Michigan and Wacker,we were about to follow the parade with everyone else when my bud called and said there was NO room at the inn.....NONE. My Bro and Cuz caught the subway back home but my bud who was due to take the train back west with me had the idea of hustling back to the station where we found the air conditioned bar half empty with the on-stage celebration just about to start. I think they poured us on that train home!

And I missed the train by about 30 seconds to get to it. I watched it pull away while in the parking lot.

I remember how hot it was that day. Being home having a beer with the AC on took a little of the sting out of missing it.

Bob I still watch those YouTube videos of the Hawks winning the cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015 and it never gets old for me. Hearing Doc call the play by play action and how his voice just makes the goals the Hawks scored even more exciting, the hair still stands up on my arms every time I watch it. Aside from that Vermette was a beast in the 2015 cup final.

I've watched the highlights and games online from those 3 runs, particularly the finals, many many times and every time they are great! I will admit, though, the one highlight I've watched more than any other is the one in my profile pic..... hearing Doc "oh my" at the Bolland hit and the "he scores!!" are burned into my brain. I literally click on a link to that video every single time it is paired on something I am reading.

5yrs ago today the Hawks won their 3rd Cup in 6yrs, and did it on home ice 👍
And 10yrs ago today my mom lost her battle to cancer at only 55yrs old, at least she knew I finally got to see the Hawks hoist the Cup 6 days before she died. She knew how much I loved the Hawks for almost 30yrs at that time, June 2010 was a rollercoaster of emotions.
Lots of memories flooding back today, both good and sad, but I'll focus on the good and hope the Hawks can dig deep when they start playing again and fight for 4 in 11yrs.

Even when you're old enough to be a grandparent you're still going to miss your mom. and to the bolded....amen brother.

I definitely would've stepped up but my dad passed in 98 and my stepdad, who was a great man and raised me since I was 8, passed away in 2007, so my mom was my last parent. And sorry for your losses, I have an older brother I'm not close with but I couldn't imagine losing him. I admit I've been critical of this team as well, not as much as you lol but it's almost like they know this could blow up if they don't beat the Oilers and win a round or 2, so they'll be hungry again for one last Cup together. If not, they'll have a top10 pick lol

On this day in Hawks history: October 7th, 2015 the last banner raising ceremony took place at the UC. My sister Karen was in town from Florida so she got to not only see the players arrive by red carpet and the banner raising, but we also won an upgrade from our 300 level seats to an all inclusive suite. It was a great day! She also got to go with me to have our picture taken with the Stanley Cup!

I only went to one of the banner raisings, sadly. in 2010 I chose a foozball game instead (a poor decision.....😒) and I had moved away for work in 2015. I still have my fancy bracelet everyone got in 2013, though!

Foozball, you need to take your belongings and leave the premises immediately. hey, if it makes it any better, I was taking my 5 year old nephew (and my sister, but she had been to a few games with me at that point) to his first ever game at the Big House, against sharty no less. lots of pictures from that day and he still has his foam "claw" to this day.... i spent all summer celebrating that Cup win, i should've probably clarified that the only reason it was maybe a bad decision is due to the result of the game.... i also immediately changed into my Blackhawks hoodie when we got back to the house there and we listened to the game on the way back to my sister's place in Kzoo. if I recall correctly, that game didn't go much better than the football game....

Foozball, you need to take your belongings and leave the premises immediately. ....against sharty no less. who, or what t.f. is "sharty"?? first it was BDN over in the bears thread, now "sharty" in a couple threads on the hockey side. i have first hand experience about what a "shart" is, but a "sharty"? are you trying to slowly change these boards into your own secret code talk or what!!
