Here are some further numbers. If I was seeing correct numbers, the Oilers PP% was 29.50%, the league avg. was 20.03% The Hawks penalty kill % was 82.13; the league avg. was 79.97. Hawks PP was 15.21%. The Oilers penalty kill % was 84.42. Those numbers don’t flatter us. All the more important to not take horrible penalties, although the reffing in the league will always make things equitable, and continue to be the better team 5 on 5. Yes, keep it 5 on 5. In boxing it's often said "don't leave it up to the judges". For the Hawks, it should something like "don't leave it in the hands of the special teams". |

yeah, we gotta stay outta the box for sure.... I do wonder if the officiating will be more early season mode than playoff mode, tbh. I feel like the league would be wise to encourage more of a fast paced, higher scoring playoff this year as opposed to letting them play (and this letting teams clutch and grab). if they do, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of the oil's pp, and likely a lot of our own. Just go with 3 on 3 if that's the case........that's fast paced. hard pass on that. I am not saying physical hockey should be removed from the playoffs (obviously), but we all know that at the beginning of the season the officials actually call penalties like they are supposed to and then they swallow their whistles once the postseason starts. I won't be surprised if that isn't the case as much this year as it has been in years past, as it wouldn't surprise me to hear the league wanted to encourage a more free flowing, higher scoring product for the eyeballs at home in an attempt to draw in new fans that wouldn't otherwise be watching. |

I wasn’t a fan of all the penalties in the Rags game. I think it kills the flow of the game. I’m just watching this to be entertained. I’m not really worried about a winner. Cuz I still feel getting Lafreniere would be franchise changing. So I’m not going to get emotional over a loss or a win here!!!

All Colliton needed was about 120 days to figure stuff out
btw, I'm LOVING Duncan Keith's Jaromir-Jagr esque mullet, that thing has some serious flow to it

Caligula with a 1 game suspension. I thought it was a penalty, but definitely not suspension worthy. We had this same exact discussion over Reaves hit. Both a little dirty, but not suspension worthy to me at least. And since it’s so recent, I don’t see how Caligula gets suspended but they let Reaves go? Both were high hits, but I think its a little bit weird to suspend one and not the other!!! |

I don't have a problem with him getting a game. i have a big problem with him getting a game and a player with a history of questionable and over the line play not getting one. tbh, I'm not sure at all why Reeves didn't get a game. they could've suspended him for one of the round robin games and it wouldn't have meant much to his team. |

I'm sure it'll be Sikura who replaces Caligula tomorrow night, but my preference would be Hagel. with the likelihood of Nylander remaining on the second line until they lose, i think putting Sikura and D🐈 on the same line is a poor idea. not that Hagel is any bigger, but he plays a style more in line with Caligula and we need someone like that on that line, imo.

Columbus is really playing some playoff hockey. Leaves are in tough with them. Hawks will have to be ready for the the hit parade tomorrow. If the Oilers show up like they did on Saturday. They’ll be done. But I’ve seen a lot of playoff hockey the last 24 hours, and I fully expect it to keep up. I doubt we see another 10 goal game!!!

T for me this game will be all about the coach, Tippett will have his Oilers fired up and ready to go tonight, the big question is, Will JC be able to counter and adjust to what the Oilers will bring. The Oilers were sloppy all over the ice, Leon was less than spectacular, I don’t see that happening 2 games in a row. The forecheck from the Oilers tonight will be relentless, if they go down 2-0 it’s over and they know it, so what will JCs game plan be. |

The Hawks have weathered big hitting teams before. Thing is you can’t keep that style up all game. Plus hitters get hurt too. And get out of position. Get through the first ten minutes and let’s see how it goes.
