Thoughts? Seems like this would make it easier for the Hawks to make the playoffs then if their own division remained in tact.
Adam Gretz Wed, December 9, 2020, 5:43 PM EST·3 min read Checking in on some NHL news and rumors, including more on the start of the 2020-21 season start. Looking at the potential division realignment We already know that a 56-game season starting in Mid-January is looking likely, and that it will come with a temporary realignment of the NHL’s four divisions. That alignment will feature an all-Canadian division and three other temporary divisions. On Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun reported on Twitter that current alignment could look like this… • Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington • Carolina, Columbus, Detroit, Chicago, Florida, Minnesota, Nashville, Tampa Bay• Anaheim, Arizona, Colorado, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Jose, St. Louis, Vegas • Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg

In the fourth, All Canadian division, I'm curious how their schedules would be drawn up. When you look at where the teams are located, it seems like they would spend a lot of travel time.

Yes, there’s a lot of travel time for sure. They also said in a 56 game season or somewhere in that realm, that teams would play each other 8-9 times. So my best guess is that they’ll play 2 games in that city, then head to the next city for 2. Then back home for 4-6 games then back out. Like Vancouver would go to Montreal for 2 games. Then to Ottawa for 2, then Toronta for 2. Head back home, for a couple weeks, then go to Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton for 2 each. It’s what’s being discussed as of now!!!

I saw this the other day and have been thinking about them since....
specifically, how will the playoffs work in this alignment? you have to think it will be an expanded playoff again considering how unbalanced those divisions are. one of them has probably the 4 favorites in the west in it.
I will say, I am a big fan of our division. easily the weakest of all 4. playing the wangs a bunch, I like. gotta think in this set up there should definitely be a playoffs or pink slips mindset.

I really feel like they should make a 5th division for this season... a "South" if you will.
Move St. Louis back into the Central and the south can be: Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina, Dallas, Nashville
I know it's only 5 teams but this is all about making travel easier during the pandemic and you could just alter the playoffs to make it work. Under this alignment I'd think it's just going to be a 1-16 seeded thing regardless of traditional conference anyway.

I wouldn't disagree with that. If we are better...hey...icing on the cake! But I really think our D is just that bad coupled with Subban and Delia are what their stats are. Even though I think our O will be respectable we'll be hemorrhaging goals.

if there are no games in canada this upcoming season and the canadian teams play all of their games inside the u.s., i would expect the canadian division wouldn't exist anymore and the current divisions could change yet again. i'll tell you...it would suck for the canadian teams but what are you going to do?

not playing yet but a step closer at least. just the thought of training camp opening in (perhaps) 15 days is quite alright by me. The league has targeted a Jan. 13 start date, with training camps scheduled to open Dec. 31 for the seven non-postseason teams from last season and Jan. 3 for the other 24. All dates are subject the change.
The NHL will carry a normal 23-man roster and will also include an additional taxi squad of four-to-six players, who will be paid their full AHL salaries.
Players have the option to opt-out of the upcoming season, without pay.
The league needs approval from health officials of the five Canadian provinces in order to play; the hope is things will get resolved by Monday.www.nbcsports.com/chicago/blackhawks/report-nhl-nhlpa-reach-tentative-agreement-56-game-season-2020-21

Agreed, but at least they wouldn't have what I've heard can be very annoying customs during their divisional schedule.

looks like they swapped Dallas and Minnesota, otherwise the divisions will be as previously reported.
can this team make the top 4 out of:
TB, Carolina, Dallas, Nashville, Florida, C-bus, and Detroit?

Save Wirtz lots of money then.

I looked at the schedule of a NBA team and saw that they had two games in a row at home against the same team. So, to avoid excess travel, they are keeping teams in town for two nights, so they might be doing as you suggested in the NHL. Next, they'll be having teams come in for 3 or 4 games like in baseball.

Yeah, I saw a similar story that indicated that the Canadian teams might have to relocate to US cities in order to play and travel. I read that the Toronto Raptors of the NBA are starting their season in Tampa. How about the Kokomo Canadiens?

One factor the league hopes will minimize these disruptions is that the NHL schedule will feature a baseball-style grouping of games where teams will play multiple games in one market over a short period of time.theathletic.com/2240622/2020/12/20/nhl-2020-21-season-start/

welp, in our division thus far, Kucherov is out for the season and Seguin is pretty much out until April at the earliest...
I guess Dach is our player to be out for half (or more) of the season. wonder who it will be for the perds, wangs, canes, cats, and jackets?
imo, this division is setting up nicely for that team in nashville.....
