I for one am not upset about this news. He gets to play with Dcat again. I hope he gets that record. I really do. He was the best player for a long time. Magic hands. And just amazing creativity. The Winged Wheel rivalry is not what it used to be. It’s ok to be happy for Kane!!!

Chicago born Chris Chelios was a heart-and-soul competitor, a multi-Norris trophy winner, the captain of an underdog Blackhawk team which he dragged on his back to the Stanley Cup finals in 1992.
Sure, he said and did some things over the years which offended Hawk fans. He seemed to embrace joining Detroit perhaps a little too much.
But he did not choose to become a Red Wing. He was traded there. Now he is booed - mercilessly at times - at the United Centre.
Knowing the intense rivalry, Kane willingly signed with Detroit as a UFA. There likely were other options. Could Kane's legacy here be smeared by this choice? Loyalty is a funny thing.

can we now refer to him as Patrick Chelios? Going to the hated Wings. How will fans receive him now? The similarities of the 2 leaving the Hawks and ending up with the Wings are vaguely similar. Both stars in their era, both wanted to remain Hawks. Chelios reluctantly agreed to play for Wings initially, Kane CHOSE to sign with them as a free agent. This thread doesn't just need to be moved....it needs to be blown up!

Chelios was traded after signing a contract so team friendly, the NHLPA took him to task for it and I believe it was those things he said and did after the trade that created the angst between him and Hawk fans,as mvr said. He'll be honored with a jersey retirement later this season none the less.
I'm not sure what anyone expects from Patrick Kane, does anyone think he looked forward to the grind of another PO's on one good wheel last spring? The guy agreed to be traded anyway, dam near brought a 1st and got MF'd for it. He 'chose' to sign with Detroit but he wasn't wanted here.....publically not wanted.

Look I am happy for Kane, as we all know he loves playing the game and reuniting with D-Cat will be nice to see again. Detroit is an improved team and early here in 2024 have been playing well. Are they a serious Stanley Cup contender? I say not this season and maybe not even in 2025. Kane signed for one year and if we wanted to chase a cup, I do not think he will get it this year with Detroit. I know Toronto and Panthers were several other teams mentioned as possible suitors. Possible they could not fit him in their cap situation or as MVR said the market was really not there. Maybe Kane just wants to play again, feeling healthy and have some fun with D-cat. I suppose he could have done the same with our Hawks and Bedard.

I wish Kane the best with his new team. I hope he can play hockey at a level that he is satisfied with - that would be gratifying for him. If people enjoyed the “cup era” from 2010-2015, they know Kane’s contributions were key to the team’s success. Some people are gonna boo when he comes to Chicago and that’s their problem.

Well I have no hard feelings about 88 signing with the deadwings as I said before if he chose to sign there its an indication of exactly how hurt he was that the club did not want him back. Some will boo I get it I will go down for warmups and cheer and thank him for all he did the same way I did for Dunc. This was the best team that could pay him over the league min. I hope he has another 4-5 years in him not gonna be easy I got 2 new hips they dont even want me running. Got no problem where this thread goes I will always remember the kid as a blackhawk.

Detroit is the next closest NHL team to Kane's adopted home town, you can drive back n forth in three hours with the time difference. He seems to be on the same 'page' as Lalonde and has stayed in close touch with his BFF D-Cat and looks forward to that too if health allows.

It's been FIVE months since everybody's favorite jungle dweller posted these vids.....LOL! The only things we can assume from those vids IMO are,the procedure went as well as possible and the initial healing process did too, those are some hellacious wind-ups! I don't recall seeing any actual vids of Kane since but reports have been encouraging and he's supposedly been rehabbing and conditioning successfully. He's always been a fit player and I think conditioning would be acceptable with the effort he's made but how he handles the rigors of the game and the physicality will be the telling factors. Patrick Kane has always been good at avoiding the 'brunt' of big hits with his vision and skating ability and doesn't need to go to the 'dirty' areas to be productive. As a well respected player all around the league, you seldom see Kane targeted but if he is when he returns, don't be surprised to see a little 'stick work' on his part........as we saw when he was targeted early in his career. As optimistic as I am,I give him a 50/50 chance to finish the year 100% healthy.

Kane is shooting at Modano's American born records.
He needs 137 points to tie Modano.
He needs 110 goals to tie Modano and 27 assists to tie.
He'll beat the assist part in a couple months I'd think, but the goals may take 3-4 years?
Kane would also need 108 assists to tie Housley for all time assists.
He then would have all 3 records.

DETROIT — Patrick Kane stepped off the ice at the Detroit Red Wings’ practice rink Thursday to a group of kids waiting to meet him.
The same kids had watched the Chicago Blackhawks practice just before Kane took the ice, and one of them was wearing a Blackhawks No. 98 Connor Bedard jersey. When Kane was asked to take a picture with the group, he joked that the nine would have to be changed to an eight to match his 88 jersey number.
Kane, like everyone watching the NHL this season, has tuned in to see Bedard play. Kane was flipping around a lot between games the last few months as he was eyeing what teams might make sense for him before choosing the Red Wings earlier this week, but he caught enough of Bedard and the buzz around him with the Blackhawks.
“You know what, it’s great for Chicago, it’s great for the league to have a player of his caliber in that market,” Kane said on Thursday. “Obviously happy for the organization and for Connor, too, to go to a city like that. It’s a great place to play. He’s already doing well. I’m sure he’ll be even better as time goes on, so hopefully they can build something up there.”
Kane has talked with Bedard a few times since he was drafted by the Blackhawks.
“I think he’s very respectful,” Kane said. “You could tell he was raised the right way. He’s still very young too, right? He’s a young 18-year-old, so I’m sure he’ll figure out ways to be better and better on the ice. It seems like he’s already got a good head on his shoulders. From afar, it seems like he’s already a pro, right? Whether it’s, you see him staying on the ice after practice, the way he takes care of himself, things like that. It’ll all go well with him.”
Even with Kane leaving the Blackhawks last season and going to the New York Rangers in a trade, he thought there might be a chance his phone would ring again from the Blackhawks this season. He wasn’t sitting and waiting for it, but he hadn’t ruled out the possibility that he, and maybe even Jonathan Toews, would return to Chicago.
“Yeah, I mean, I never really knew, right?” Kane said. “Especially after that first pick, I was like, ‘OK, maybe they’ll try to bring, even like Tazer or myself back.’
“I know when I was a young guy, it really helped having some older guys around like Robert Lang, (Martin) Havlat, Yanick Perrault and Patrick Lalime, guys like that. Obviously, we had some young guys coming up that were pretty special players, and that made it pretty easy on me, too. It seemed like they wanted to go in a direction where they were going to bring in some different type of veterans. Yeah, it’s what it is. Good for them. You don’t think about it too much.”
Kane wasn’t bothered by that. He and the Blackhawks have a long history together. He didn’t rule out a future reunion, either.
“I was there for a long time,” he said. “I was there for 16 years or so. We had a good run when I was there. I think there’s always a piece in the back of your mind that maybe it could potentially happen or even down the line or in the future, you never know, but yeah, I love the city, loved my time there with the organization. Obviously we had a lot of success, so if it’s time to move on, then it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”
Kane will now have played for two teams since departing the Blackhawks. He’s not sure what will happen, but would like to avoid bouncing around from team to team in the final stage of his career.
“I hope not,” the 35-year-old Kane said. “I hope it’s not like six, seven teams, to be honest with you. I’d rather keep it as low as possible. You have a 3-year-old son, it’s like it’s tough to move around all the time. I think the situation here (in Detroit), what they’re building, kind of where I fit into the team made a lot of sense for me. I could have maybe went to a team that was higher up in the standings, but this made the most sense for me and getting my game back. That’s what I’m trying to do to now. Obviously try to help the team win, but to do that is being the best version of myself, have that lateral movement, be able to be dynamic out there, make plays, have fun doing it, be competitive, play with a chip on the shoulder and get it done.”
Kane has kept in touch with Toews, who announced before the season he was going to sit out this season. Kane hoped Toews would be able to play again.
“Yeah, we text a lot,” Kane said. “I know he’s missing the game, as well. First and foremost is taking care of himself, so that’s where he’s at. For what I’ve seen, it seems his intention is to take the year off and then go from there. It sounds like he’s doing better, so hopefully he’ll be able to come back.”
Kane will return to the United Center when the Blackhawks host the Red Wings on Feb. 25, the night when the Blackhawks will retire Chris Chelios’ number.
“It’ll be fun to go back there on February 25th,” Kane said. “Chelios’ jersey going up and first game back on the road, so it’ll be a fun night.”
What will the return will be like for Kane?
“I have no idea,” he said. “I’ve always played with a little bit of a chip on the shoulder, so hopefully I have a little bit that night and can play a good game and help the Wings win. It would be fun to score a goal or have a couple points, whatever it is. Just to play well against them.”

That's a good perspective on this possible unfair hammering of Kane. On the other hand, I have never totally understood the hatred of Detroit by Hawk fans. I assume there is some valid reason for hating Detroit; or it could be just some shuck and jive routine. As a long-time Hawk, I guess current Hawk fans believe that Kane should join with them and continue to hate Detroit. So, by joining Detroit, I guess they believe that he has severed this "connection" between him and the fan base by turning his back on the Hawks and going to play with the team Hawk fans love to hate. So, from that perspective, I guess I see why some are so upset that he decided to play with Detroit, even though I really don't understand the basis for the Detroit hatred. I am not saying Hawk fans shouldn't hate Detroit. I am only saying I dont understand the basis of it. After all, I hate Tampa and will never be a Bolt fan.

Jack as far as the hatred of Hawks fans on Detroit I believe ,and Phil could probs remember better then me , the fans base like them or not wings fans traveled big time and there are a lot of Michigan poeple who when the grew up came to chicago to work because the dream was not to do good in school and go work in Detriot. So you had a lot of wings fans at games after they would all yell and do there Lets go Deadwings and stupid clap we would respond Detriot sucks as they clapped like grade school cheerleaders. I dont believe the hate for Kane is that big. For me most of my Deadwing hate went away when #7 scored and ripped there hearts out in 2013.
