Nice farewell video from Mutt. A huge warriors heart that could barely fit into that frame. His # will never be retired but I hope whoever takes it up next is worthy of it’s legacy.

Shaw could score zero points in a game, and maybe even make a few mistakes, and still be a "presence" that carried the team in the right direction.
Happy Retirement "Shinpads!"

i thought shaw deserved his own page about his retirement. hell, i'm not sure he had his own page at the old boards. he was just that kind of a player i guess....i mean mutt's don't seem to garner that much attention. : )
so, i'll move the shaw posts over to this thread.
what a year. lose seabs, crow, shaw and possibly more.

This is a mans man. He gave everything he had and probably lived a really cool life. Things change and priorities do to. I just hope he literally gets to live a normal life. Having a few concussions in a year is tough on anyone. He was a pleasure to watch night in and out. I sure hope they didn’t break the mold when they made him!!!

When I just came back on this thread, I was hoping someone had given it its own "home." If not, I was going to start one myself.
This guy named Shaw is what champions are made of. His determination, grit, and fearlessness were an important ingredient to those 2 Cup teams on which he played. I did remember his first game as a Hawk, and that he scored a goal in it. I had forgotten about the fight he had early in the game. He was the kind of player you would love to hate if he played against you, but he was totally loved by Hawks' fans the world over. Even when he took a foolish penalty now and then, I couldn't stay mad at the guy. He was one of my wife's favorite players, and mine too. A "real team player." As was said earlier, his number won't probably be retired, but I think that the next guy who wears #65 has some kind of a reputation to live up to!
I think he would be a great candidate to go into coaching, if he would be interested.

I first saw shaw in the memorial cup, when he played the sea dogs. he shadowed Huberdeau, like a glove, we all hated the bastard, but he took Hubs off his game, and if it wasn't for ,all the work. that "our boy jurco " did in the corner in OT, hubs put it high for a beauty, but I remembered Shaw, form that 1 game , was tickled pink when I heard we drafted him , the same as I was when we got danault in the same draft , he was another dandy that our bone head GM gave away ,

he will be missed, if you had a whole team of 'Shaws', you would be in contention for the Cup every season.. the dude had heart
i dont think the Hawks win the cup in 15 without him, especially in the Ducks series.. he was in front of the net causing havoc so much in that series alone, it was amazing. i really love going back and watching those games on occasion..
it sure was sweet! thanks Shawzer for the memories!

thanks Shawzer for the memories! he'd do whatever it took and use whatever he could to do it. his fists, stick, teeth...whatever. shaw didn't deny the bite btw. : ) gives up 59 pounds and 7" to hedman and doesn't hesitate for a second. going to miss that, actually i already have for a while.

He certainly brought energy and effort to every game he played. I am sorry for him that his career had to end this way with retirement because of injuries.

ill never forget the head butt goal either.. the playoff games were starting at 9 pm here, so it was like 1 or 2 am when he did that, and im up in my bedroom, yelling at the tv, because i thought it was the overtime winner! i still cant believe the announcers thought that as well, they should know the rules!
anyway, another great memory from the Cup runs.. good times and i cant believe how quickly it ended....

That bonehead move by SB got us D-cat. I think he meant the Danault trade, which was a waste. That trade was for Flieschman and Weiss in 2016 going for that cup again. But that failed in game 7 with the Blows. As well we know.

The departures of Crawford,Seabrook,Saad,Shaw and JT's situation reminds me it's the end on an era. I've seen so many era's end in my life that I have to wonder how many more I have in me. It's not that I'm out of shape(a bit),unhealthy or old for my age(64),I just don't know how much interest I have for more new eras.

I know everything has to end, but I never thought it’d end this way or this bad. I’m not sure I’ll see another thing like that in my lifetime. Bitching about Stan Bowman due to his mediocre work, is getting old. Nothing is changing and I will admit, I’m losing interest myself. I love chatting with everyone on here, and I’ll probably continue to do so. But it’s getting tougher and tougher to watch. So let’s hope things do turn around. But I fully understand why they won’t!!!

Shaw's personality will also be missed!
...and which one of us didn't love the way he beat the living crapola out of Roussel?
That was at least as priceless as somebody putting down Burrows or Torres.
