It didn't take long for this thread to be infected by negativity unrelated to the topic of the thread. I rarely come to this site anymore because the constant negativity just isn't something I enjoy reading. I stopped by today and saw this thread and thought comments regarding the IIHF tourney should be interesting and for the first bunch of posts it was - even had some nice videos of Reichel and Kubalik. But that didn't even last past the first page before comments were about the Hawks PP and how DCat is going to get screwed around and blah blah blah blah blah. Shame on me - I should have known better than to think this thread wouldn't be infected too. I cede to the majority at this site - you all just keep doing what you do cuz it works for you and it's better than kicking your dog or yelling at your wife. I don't know who TF you think you are but this in an open forum and if you don't like it ....TOUGH SHIT! Where are your insightful posts about the WC? The infection is you pal,if you don't like a comment about a team in free fall.....get over it and stop preaching. Believing in unicorns and undersized weak prospects is your business but I'd leave people's families and pets out of it unless you want yours discussed. If we're gonna start calling people out,fine...........I'm real good at that.

But when comments about a team in freefall turn up in the thread to discuss the IIHF tourney - that seems like it's out of place to me. I did end my post by ceding to the majority and suggesting you all keep doing what you're doing because it works for you and venting on a message board is a harmless way to let off some steam. It's just not me - wallowing in endless negativity is just not something I can do - so, as has been obvious to me for some time now - this place isn't for me. It's not a hissy fit or I'm not taking my ball and going home - but honestly it's just not a fit for me. I like some posters here and they apparently have no problem with it so I'm happy it is a place you all can share to discuss our favorite team and sport. Truly.

I do my best to stay out of the threads like the Hog's thread or the prospects thread if I have nothing good to say to be honest and I only replied to the D-Cat usage post because there's so little else to reply to. A lot of threads get derailed but it was obviously the negative comments bothered you more that the derailing.........why not ignore em or better yet, counter with a positive post of your own. I also heap TONS of praise on D-Cat who's a SB draft pick. If you consider my posts "wallowing in negativity",that's your opinion and since it's an open forum....have at it. I read comments that I see as overly optimistic as far as the teams prospects and the direction of the team and when I disagree,I don't tell anyone how misguided they are.......I just post why I disagree and I NEVER pull their families or pets into a debate for God's sake....THAT should be off base.

You honestly thought I was commenting on your family? C'mon. "Don't kick your dog or yell at your wife" is a common expression used to juxtapose that whatever you're doing at least isn't as bad as kicking your dog of yelling at your wife. It is not a personal attack and crosses no boundaries inappropriate for civil dialogue. Why not just ignore the comments I don't like? I've been doing that since I came back to this site months ago but it's like I reached critical mass and I know it's my problem - not the negative posters - so the most effective way for me to ignore the negativity is simply to not come to this site anymore which is what I've been doing lately. I stop by every now and then to see if there's something new and when I saw the IIHF thread I went in. I knew better before I did it but I'm weak and went in any way. So, this is good - another step in weaning me off this site. Ill close with this - I know we're all Hawks fans and want the best Hawks team we can get. There's a camaraderie that we'll always have regardless of our disagreements and approach to things. Go Hawks!!!!

I did acknowledge the first bunch of posts and the videos in my first post and that I enjoyed those. Everyone who posts here is just being true to themselves, including you and me. There's no meanness or personal agendas but I feel like my personality doesn't mesh well with many of the posters here (not just you) - doesn't mean I'm right and you're wrong or visa versa - it's just the way it is. I'm not leaving in a huff threatening to never come back or anything so self serving as that - but it's better for me to seek a steady diet of uplifting entertainment elsewhere because I'm not finding it here. And again - I'm not insinuating there is something wrong here because for most posters this place is great which in the end is really what matters. It's just not the refuge for me.

Watched a wee bit of the Canada US game. What a shitty game. Hagel was awful at best. He had a giveaway for the ages. I know the Covid rules held back a lot of NHL players going to this, for all teams. But the games I’ve watched, have just been bad hockey and it looks very ECHL ish.
I’m probably not gonna watch much more of this tourney as the quality of hockey is awful this year. I don’t care if Canada wins or loses in this. But even for other Hawks guys in this, it’s not much of a litmus test. Any tourney where Canada and Sweden look like bottom feeders. And Czech and Slovakia look to be powerhouses. Probably not a great tourney.
I thought the year Lankinen stumped every team there, that was impressive as there were some very good players at that tourney and some top teams. This year may go down as the worst in the history of that tourney!!!

I see there’s some Russians going over now so they still take it serious, and it’s a short trip home when it’s done I guess. Still, guys like Beaudin didn’t lace them up much this year so I think they just want to play some hockey. Guys like Kurashev or Kubalik might see a legitimate chance to medal in a diluted tournament and it’s still a chance to wear a national team sweater.

But the talent just isn’t there to get a good measure on things!!!

Noticeable? As hyped? Honestly, no. He hasn’t been horrible. But he’s been 18 for a while. He’s got a late bday (November) and he’s rounding the corner to 19. I’m not saying he’s a total bust. But like Bob and I have been talking about developing kids, I doubt Power is NHL ready. I doubt he’s AHL ready and he’s not ready for pro hockey, as he’s shown in the worlds. I think he could be a great asset, he just needs time to fully develop. And playing on that horrible team is not helping him. It may actually hurt him. Who ever was in charge of putting this team together, should never be allowed to again. Canada is tied with Italy for last in the tournament. 1 goal for, 7 against. They would’ve been better off taking AHL vets that wouldn’t be as embarrassing. To top it off, Latvia supposedly has a massive shortage of Men. So I’ve read many articles on how many beautiful women they have but no suitors for them. Ex NHLer Robbie Schremp actually lives there now and has married a gorgeous woman and he was talking about it on Missing Curfew podcast. And on Spittin Chickletts. So I’m sure the young single dudes are out trying to reap the rewards of too many women!!!

Nothing to really say about the Canada/Germany game. All three Hawk interests are close to invisible. I will say even with little high end talent Canada does look like a Gallant coached team, high pursuit and always skating. Man, I’d like to see what he, or someone with the same philosophy, could do in Chicago.

Well that depends if the Slovak powerhouse wins it all or not Hehehe..... I honestly hope they do. They look pretty good here!!! Yes, they surprisingly do look good out there. Craig Ramsay brought a new system and the players are buying it in step by step. I would compare them to Canes. Obviously a totally different level, but a team with no big stars, just pure hard-work and solid goaltending. We have a two 17 year old talents over there. Hopefully they can find a way to the NHL and the Slovak numbers would increase again. Since Big Hoss left, we do not have any major name over there, except maybe big Z (not Zadorov ), who is probably hanging them up this year.

One thing I’ve always hated is a lot of lesser teams play a trap to not get beat bad. But recently the Fins, Swiss, Germans etc have all played to win. Even if they lose. And their programs have gotten much better due to letting their guys develop and play actual hockey. I hope the Slovaks and Czechs keep doing this too. No one wants to play boring systematic hockey for nothing. So good on the Slovaks for playing to win and doing it!!!

I followed Atlanta when he was there and I thought he was a very cerebral HC who had great pressers and he seemed to get along with his players well.......good luck to Jack Ramsay. I would have loved to see the guy get a shot with the Jets after the move up north because Noel was awful but Ramsay wasn't part of the Manitoba mafia'.....LOL

Thanks, GT. The game summary shows Reichel had 9 shifts for a total of 5:36 TOI in the 1st period but shows zero minutes for the 2nd and 3rd periods, with a total TOI for the game as 5:36. It does show other players with minutes in all three periods.
Maybe they just didn't update his TOI for the 2nd. period. I have to say, I don't like reading about getting evaluated to see if he can return for the rest of the tournament. But I understand they have to be cautious so we can hope for the best outcome.

Like the video said, that was a lot of head contact. He has to know that’s a possibility and needs to protect himself on a play like that, not leaning in and leading with his head.

I would have loved to see the guy get a shot with the Jets after the move up north because Noel was awful but Ramsay wasn't part of the Manitoba mafia'.....LOL Yep, it's already 3 or 4 years since he took over Slovak team. There was a lot of havoc and stupid comments were made because in the past foreign (Czechs excluding) trainers did not have good results (e.g. Glen Hanlon). But already in the first year he started, the style of play and the actual appearance of the team made a lot of good vibes. Although no major results were made, it is a commonly accepted opinion that our hockey is going into a good direction. Hopefully they stay on track.

I’m happy for you fine Czechs! Like I said before, the biggest thing is to stop playing “not to lose to badly” and start to play to win. Even if you lose along the way, kids will enjoy playing more if their not bogged down by loser systematic hockey. Gallant is not the biggest Xs and Os guy. But he has a direct message and the players follow it to a tee. They play to win and it shows. Canada may be a bad squad this year, but they’re not playing just to look like they belong. I hope you enjoy the Canadian brand over there😎😎😎
