AA's a 27yro center who's won 43% of his career draws and has 32 total goals and 34 assists the last three season since his 'lightning in a bottle' year,he only dressed for 28gms last year......was he hurt or scratched? Good luck either way. Teams can't get rid of 1st round flop Max Domi fast enough,there was obviously no interest in this player at the TDL either........37 goals combined in the three years since his own 'lightning in a bottle season'. So for 1.6M,the cap loaded team keeps two younger,better players for one year familiar to the fans who might be flipped for something later. Maybe Borgstron's attitude was so bad he couldn't even be in Rockford(called that one!)but why waste a retention spot that you said yourself is so important,the team could just release and pay him to go to Europe instead of assigning him to Rockford I believe. There is no limit to buy outs, so the Hawks are ok with Borgstrom. The only issue is the minimal cap space lost. No big deal. The problem comes with salary being retained in a trade. There are only 3 spots available to use. As it stands, two are likely committed (Toews and Kane). The Hawks can afford to take back bad contracts, but likely do not want to do that. AA and Domi are likely worth 3rd or 4th round picks next spring without retaining salary. Do you really think Kubalik (at $4 M) or Strome (at $3.6 M plus) would get more? I don't. The Hawks could not find a dance partner for either this year. With bigger salaries, it would be even tougher to trade them. AA and Domi could still be lookin for deals if not for our young GM and Strome @3.6M is a better value but only time will tell. The only dance partners found so far have been for the lowest of the hanging fruit......a lot of players left with zero return. Purge for purge's sake seems to be the order of the day.....even Edzo wasn't safe from the Romper Room crew. |

BJ's ate half his $$$f(as will we when we move the bum)and Fla retained half of that to get rid of him in a 3-way deal and the BJ's got back.....wait for it....the signing rights to a kid who had one goal in 37gms for Boston College. The return must have bowled em over. He's been on steady decline the last few years and playing for a talentless team won't change that. We'll see which of the two players have more value going forward. |

If there is no taker for AA or Domi, big deal. The team has no real skin in the game here.
The team needs bodies willing to take cheap one-year contracts. These two are placeholders trying to rebound and reestablish value. If they don't, so what? There is no loss here.
Strome has no trade value, even with the strong second half to last season. Nobody wanted him. Both he and Kubalik were too expensive to keep beyond this year regardless.
I don't get what the issue is here. This is the kind of smart decision making the previous bean counter did not do. Davidson is keeping options open through the early stages of a rebuild. Maintaining roster and cap flexibility drives every move.

I wish Strome well with the Caps. Apparently he still has to once again prove himself and hopefully he does. I also wish Hagel and D-cat well - good players with great attitudes. Couple things here. If you’re not patient, you’ll become one! Next. Most draft picks won’t make it. This is why the more you have the better. If the Hawks can hit on 25% over the next few years. That would help. Having 30+ picks over the next 3 years is what they need and will probably get. So let’s say they hit on 7-8 of them. And get the #1 dman, #1 center etc. then things are looking real real good. But by the time they can look like they have something going. It more than likely will be 5 years. Maybe quicker if they get some luck along the way!!! |

So I’m hoping it’s the same as NHL live, cuz me and my boy would watch older games to show him just how awesome some of the Hawks were. I fear that most games will be blocked. Especially if playing the Leaves. Because you have to have the Sportsnet Ontario, and SN west and east etc for the other Canadian teams to see those games. It’s all a massive money grab. So we’ll see how this season pans out. If it’s stupid, I’ll just have to use GTs game day links!!! |

Mark Eaton was named assistant the same day as Hunter. So two associate and two assistants. Ultimately KD has the final say but that's a lot of heads for the job, at least he willing to accept input from others. |
