A lot of chances for Kane. Hopefully they start falling. He is likely to have a breakout game one of these nights. Quite a drought for him.

Well during the game KD reiterated that he will not be giving away UFAs for nothing but he wanted to let GMs know that he will continue to give away RFAs for nothing. Does he really think coming out with that statement other GMs are going to get into a bidding war for anyone on this team without a NMC ?

8 game losing streak sees us scoring 9 and allowing 35.
all time record is 14 losses in a row (across 2 seasons late 1920s).
i think we got a decent shot at it.

Friday night's opponent is none other than the Jackets, who are just about as bad as the Hawks. The losing streak may come to an end. Besides, the Hawks had 39 SOG tonight, so things are improving and will probably lead to a win. Too bad.

The way we're playing i'd say the next game at home against the jackets is at best a coin toss. To your point we played a decent game against the preds but can we do it 2 games in a row? I hope so. Maybe stalock will have a stand on his head kind of game.

I was hoping they'd win tonight and get it over with, and lose top the Jackets to solidify last place. That one could be a 4 point game.

I was hoping they'd win tonight and get it over with, and lose top the Jackets to solidify last place. That one could be a 4 point game. Right now I think they’re in one. It’s hard to get out of that funk. I think they just wanna get into the Xmas break and enjoy a few days off. I don’t blame them. It’s tough to play to win when the team has purposely tanked. You can try all you want but it still won’t result with n much. It is what it is. Next year I think we won’t even remember or even care to remember what happened this year. Especially when you’ve got either Bedard or Fantilli to look forward to!!!

I’m 100% on board with the tank etc. and understand that means losing over and over but it is hard to watch. I think it was a good effort last night overall but very apparent the talent is lacking. There is no consistent “finisher” on the team. Most are a split second late on the one timers which is the difference between being a 30-40 goal scorer and a borderline AHL player. Yes Saros played a decent game and yes Nashville has a somewhat stifling way of playing but they are beatable by teams with some offensive ability.

Well during the game KD reiterated that he will not be giving away UFAs for nothing but he wanted to let GMs know that he will continue to give away RFAs for nothing. Does he really think coming out with that statement other GMs are going to get into a bidding war for anyone on this team without a NMC ? OK, would someone please educate me because I don't get what KD was saying. 1. What does he mean when he says he will not be giving away UFAs for nothing? To me, a UFA is a free agent who can do what he wants with regard to signing with another team. The only control his current team has over him once he reaches UFA status is to try to lure him back with offers of more money or a longer contract period. So, is he saying something other than he will outbid any GM for any Hawk UFAs other teams are chasing, regardless of whether the Hawks really want that player? For example, is he saying that if other teams start offering Kane/Toews long contracts at big money, he will top them because he is "not going to give away UFAs for nothing". So, educate me. 2. What does he mean when he says that will continue to give away RFAs for nothing and what good does stating that do him/the Hawks? If he doesn't want a RFA enough to not match any offer made for one of his RFAs, then what is he going to do besides just letting him go. What's the point of coming out with that statement? Or is he just trying to say that other GMs should come after Hawk RFAs because he will not be competing with their bids on a monetary basis, but will be glad to let them go and collect the draft pick?

With respect to UFA he means at the trade deadline or sooner. Once the season is over the UFA and team have a small window to get a deal done, if no deal player is UFA and can sign with anyone with no compensation.

So, what is the threat imposed by him saying that he won't be giving away any UFAs for nothing?

As an example the UFA is currently on the team, player A another GM is interested in his services and makes an offer to trade for him. KD is saying in order to accept the deal he is looking for a return back where there is some value back and will not agree to make a deal just to make a deal. In other words he wants some form of value back whether it is a pick, prospect or another player that is fair.

If you want to deal it will cost you. I believe last season he could have gotten a late round pick for Strome but turned it down.
2. I am not afraid to let players walk. Lankinen, Strome and Kubalik are proof of that.

It makes perfect sense that if some team wants a player before his contract expires that team will have to give up something of value to get the deal for that player. If they don't cough up some value, then KD will let him walk. Having that attitude seems like nothing sensational to me. It just seems to be what any GM would do. So, if his attitude is meant to some new big revelation, I don't get it. If his attitude is simply a restatement of what any GM would do, then why bother sensationalizing it?
