they were humming along pretty good all season even keeping pace with boston, but carolina is 9-8-1 since they lost svechnikov.

I know Isles not an offensive juggernaut but Canes do not give up a lot and are so well coached, lack of game breaker will eventually be their downfall though should they advance.

poor Canes TT out with broken hand cant catch a break. Bad non-call. Could have slashed the stick but targets the hands, too bad it’s usually a totally acceptable play in the NHL. Maybe Puhljujarvi with his twentieth chance at being an NHL player can finally show why he was a top 4 pick, but it’s doubtful. |

Onto the 2nd round. freddie andersen has an absolutely horrendous record in closeout games but he did well tonight in his first start of these playoffs. 33 saves on 34 shots. edit: also his first playoff appearance since he was with the leafs in 2020. decent career playoff numbers...in 8 playoff seasons with 3 different teams he's 28 wins against 23 losses, 2.52 and .917%. but in potential closeout games (before tonight) he was 0-8, 3.49 and .887%. |

feels like the only reason the canes moved on was because of the offensively challenged team they played this round. I dunno that they'll get so lucky next round...
