Vlasic isn’t likely to generate any Calder votes but he’s turning into the kind of defenseman you put out and don’t worry about. He makes Murphy better when they’re paired and lets Jones do what a $9 million dman should do when they’re together. If the NHL still valued Rod Langway types for their trophies he’d be in the conversation in a few years.

Hawks with only 2 PPs, why can't refs call it evenly? The Preds got away with a lot of slashes and interference penalties, plus a couple high sticks to the face.

In the Battle of the Bottomfeeders, the Hawks proved they are lower than the Preds. Neither side had much offense, altho the Hawks had another game of good effort. But, it takes more to score and win than good effort. They simply lack the basic offensive skills. Look at the difference between the way Forsberg looked with the puck. No Hawk, including Bedard, even came close to what Forsberg demonstrated. It's not that he had such a great game. It was just that he showed great skill in handling the puck and setting things up. That the Hawks are totally deficient is proven by how bad their power play is.

While watching the Huskies trying to stay undefeated (if you don't know what I am talking about, it doesn't matter), I noticed that the Canucks and Kraken were playing, so I quick set up a recording of that game. Earlier today, I noticed that the top three point getters in the league were Hughes, Miller and Pettrson of Vancouver with 27 points each, so I figured it would be worth a look. Yikes, after watching the Hawks/Preds, it was good to see a game in which players on both sides displayed tremendous offensive skills and speed. Both Miller and Hughes scored with the latter scoring on a rocket from the point. But, the Kraken won the game with their own display of skill. It was so different than watching the comparatively listless Hawks and Preds. These other guys were very fast and skillful and were pleasures to watch. It renewed my excitement about the game. On the other hand, maybe help is on the way for the Hawks: www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nhl/blackhawks-prospects-report-dach-s-hatty-nazar-stays-hot/ar-AA1kaeoG?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=b1900d1613ef42cfb154c72435997961&ei=16

Yes help is on the way but it will take some time and as you and others have said, the “help” won’t all be the youngsters that were drafted but will eventually include higher priced talent not near the end of a career.
