Ok, Shevy, time to earn your bonuses when you’re not on the ice with Bedard. I do like the way he jumped on Smith after the Bedard hit though,he also finished on Smith later in the period.........he took the worst of it but at least he took a piece of the dirty bastard when he had a chance. DAM shame there's no longer anyone associated with team that remembers Brendan Smith knocking Bennie Smith and Marco Dano out of preseason games with serious concussions that set both player's careers back, coulda gave the poor kid a heads-up. Part of me wants to say welcome to the NHL and another part's wonderin' how the fuck Bedard's spittin' out teeth if that ain't a head shot too! Kudos to the boys tonight and I don't remember the last time I said that. I remembered. as soon as I saw that it was him, I thought "he is still playing in the league?" next time we step on the ice with him, someone may as well just go beat his ass seeing as he seemingly enjoys hurting Blackhawks so much...

hard to believe, but despite a game we lost, and a game where we lose our rookie phenom as well as the team's heart and soul...it was one of the most enjoyable games of the year for me at least.
whenever the effort approaches the effort shown tonight, i'm generally good with the result even if it's a loss. that's the beauty of cheering for a team that sucks. : )

A PPG and a SHG in the same game.
Would have been nice to sprinkle a few even strength in there.

we should just trade for/sign people already on the injured list. eliminate the middleman.

i hope it's not a concussion, and i sure didn't think it was at the time, but luke's not showing his best poker face here. seems very elusive/nervous when discussing bedard's injury. i sure as hell hope i'm reading this all wrong...luckily there's a very good chance of that.

He's never been afraid to go up-high and he has the suspensions to prove it. Gotta know who you're out on the ice with at all times, and that goes especially for the 'next big thing' but the kid's never faced NJ before. I dunno if anybody gave him a heads-up but it looked like he expected to skate by Smith unscathed.

The way Bedard got up and left the ice, it didn't seem like a concussion. He was bleeding, so maybe stitches and missing teeth, hopefully not a broken jaw. I was wondering if it was that PoS Smith who took out Ben Smith and Dano, now I don't think it was a good hit because he loves to target the head, especially on young players.

Thanks for that great article. I can see why Bigbarn mentioned him. Now, I want the Hawks to keep on losing so they can draft him. Sounds like between Calabrini and Levshunov, the Hawks could do no wrong.

Are Jersey contenders? Even if they win this one I don’t see much to say they are. Hawks are playing a grinding playoff style because they can’t compete on talent, Jersey can’t do their figure skating schtick so they have become undisciplined and rattled. IMO, neither the Devils or the Rangers are going to win the Cup.

Good game Hawks, great effort, best team game of the year imo It was a shame they couldn't hold the lead and win it. It was a great effort by an outmanned team missing its best player. On the other hand, since rebuilding is the main goal here, it is not the worst thing to lose again and get closer to getting another one or two great draft picks in order to someday even the score with all these teams beating up on their undermanned asses now. Someday, the tables will turn and it will be the Hawks on the winning end of most games. I sure hope it happens sooner than later.

As we called it back in the day, got his bell rung.

Smith is just another example of a league that refuses to protect players by suspending offenders for 50, or more, games. Smith should be gone for a long time the next time he gets suspended as he just doesn't stop taking head shots. If the league doesn't do something about him, then the players will have to dispense justice as they see fit. The problem with the players doing it is that their only means is to seriously hurt the piece of shit and then the avenger of the innocent victims will get seriously suspended. So, it is a definite Catch 22 for the players to dispense their own justice. It is a great tragedy that the league is not more protective and punitive. Fuck the NHL and its Player Safety bullshit.

still a better response than a high stick on a faceoff. : ) I think this was also a great response by Murphy, you hit our guy, I’ll hurt yours as well.

I confess I don’t fully understand what is allowed and not in terms of hitting. An elbow or stick to the head is called (if seen) but what about a shoulder to the head? Now hitting a guy who’s standing a foot or two away from the boards seems to be called most of the time - particularly if it’s to the head. Seems like shoulder to almost anything is ok unless again the guy is a couple feet from the boards and not looking. The game is fast and physical so it’s not always easy to discern in real time either. But I would think a shoulder to the jaw is questionable?
