That’s exactly it. Havlat took the pressure off the young kids to perform. They weren’t on the top line. The Hawks had Havlat, Lang, Williams, and even Sharp to help carry the load. Right now it’s Bedard and no one else. And he’s losing interest. So the best way forward is to add in a Norris. This way you could easily slot TT-Norris-Bertuzzi. Then have Kurashev- Bedard-Foligno. The pressure is off the kid to score. He would be a defacto 2nd liner. Then pop him in on the top pp with Norris and work that angle. I fully believe Seth has to be taken off the top pp for the development of the kids. I know it’ll suck for him, but maybe he’ll accept a trade. So speaking of that. I would try and trade Seth to Ottawa for Norris. Sens need D bad. Their salaries almost wash out. But the Hawks could take back another contract to make them ahead in the cap dept. I would like to see some moves made to shore up the roster. It could take years to get Bedard back on track!!! it won’t take years to get bedard back on track Many said the same about Dach. The list of good young players that got ruined is long. If Bedard is one of those freaks that lives only for the sport, great. If the sport is no longer good to him, they look elsewhere. And I’m sure Bedard already has enough money to live with all his endorsements he’s done. I’m not saying it’ll happen. But Alexandre Daigle!!!

Dach had a concussion at the KurversShowcase before his first season, dislocated shoulder, shattered wrist, and missed almost a full season because of a knee injury. Bedard is nothing like Dach, and his set back isn't due to being fragile, it's having teams focusing on him and the rest of the team isn't a threat. Once they get another star or 2 he'll be fine.

I'm not as worried about Bedard as I am some of the others.... Bedard has too much self-confidence not to recover. But the less talented guys might not have the ego to protect themselves from self-doubt. I am thrilled to see Reichel's improvement over the last month, and I applaud his primary linemates Smith and Maroon for building the kid back up. Now Kurashev worries me. I am also more than concerned about the team's short term plan for Nazar. They need to leave him alone. People blame Alex Daigle for his own failure. I saw the 18 year old kid in his rookie year in Ottawa when he still showed so much promise.

Exactly this. Bedard is the sole focus of our offence, he is our main threat. Teams are loading up to stop him. This was my arguement for taking Demidov in the draft, to release that x-factor offensive pressure from Bedard (when Demidov comes over). If I was an opposing coach against us, 'just focus on stopping Bedard'.

When Bedard came back from his only injury last season his points per game average went up, he did look meh near the end of the season and so far this season but him and Dach are nothing alike. Dach was injured before his career started and many times since, his career high is 14 goals, Bedard surpassed that his rookie year, Dachs career high in assists was 24, Bedard surpassed that his rookie year, and unlike Dach, Bedard never had Toews and Kane on his team.

I can't speak for Big T, but clearly he was not comparing Bedard's upside against Dach's.
Dach has been a disappointment so far, but he was never projected to be a star player. As I understood it, the amateur scouts saw him as a future top six (second line) centre who had size could play a two-way game. Drafting him with the third pick was not a mistake considering the weak quality of the alternatives that year. The problem has been with his subsequent development. He still might get to his projected ceiling some day, but he is not there yet.
My feeling, like Big T, is that the Hawks' damaged him by putting him a situation where he was not likely to succeed. We worry that many of the Hawks' prospects, including Bedard, will not reach their maximum potential because they are not being developed effectively.
Bedard is destined to be an all-star someday. But is he going to be that generational star the scouts projected him to be? If not, why not? Are the Hawks grooming him effectively? How have they handled Korchinski, Kurashev and Reichel? Are we satisfied with their progress?
Big T's concern to my mind is legitimate. I agree that the team needs some immediate talent upgrade to reduce the pressure on the kids before it is too late. I have been arguing much the same point from the minute Davidson began his unfortunate teardown. High quality prospects only become quality players if they are groomed effectively. Playing for losing teams devoid of talent can be very damaging. Daigle is not the only disappointing number one pick by any means.

And it's no secret Bedard needs help, unfortunately it won't come this season. Next summer is when KD will go after a high end free agent and Nazar will be on the team. Stan drafted Dach to take over Toews spot as the 1C, but scouts and fans knew he sucked at faceoffs and wasn't a top3 forward.

Both were put in situations that they possibly cannot succeed. Both have coaches that are trying to prove they can win. So they’ll do anything except the right thing. Maybe Bedard has more to him than Dach? But there is a hurry now, cuz we don’t wanna see the same things happen. They ruin a kid!!!

Daigle and Bedard are polar opposites. Daigle had the talent but lacked the love of the game as acting was his passion. Bedard on the other hand lived and breathed hockey. You cannot fake his passion for the game. One down season will not break him. It will only deepen his resolve to come back stronger next season.

I know it's not going to happen.
But if there is any interest in reacquiring Kirby Dach, now is the time. He is obviously still not back to form after missing most of last season. The Canadiens fans are getting frustrated. He could be available at a low price.
I would put in a phone call. Offer a B grade prospect and a pick. Perhaps Kurashev or one of the defenceman (Kaiser, Crevrier, Phillips).
The time to buy something is when nobody is interested. If Dach can be put back on the right path, he has value.

I understand this is now the story about Daigle. The player has reinforced this narrative in interviews. He has also suggested his father's passion was what drove him. But I also know what kind of player he was before he got turned off. Ottawa drafted him in front of Chris Pronger for a reason. He was a true star in junior hockey, perhaps not quite at the level of Bedard, but close. I used to go to the Senator's games. You could see the frustration in his game playing with that horrible team. It grinded on him. Passion can come, and it can go. So can confidence. Daigle at one time had both. But then he lost interest. Losing sucks.

I think we’re on the same page 📄 on most of this. Good posts. I believe now is the time to move Mrazek. I don’t expect him to be the Hawks goalie in 4-5 years. Soderberg looks better, and The Frenchman is coming back. Mrazek may very well be the best goalie in the National. I think the Hawks could finally get a top prospect for him. Or even a solid player like Norris or Pinto. Carolina may want him back. They have a lot of good young prospects. KD has to start making trades. There’s just too many prospects that are aging out. Might as well package them with Mrazek and get a solid player. Retain half and Mrazek at a little over 2 million is very attractive. Maybe Hall finds his game, retain half and he’s also attractive at 2.75 to a contender. This would be the time to get players instead of picks!!!

Halls hatrick really helped his stock, plus Mrazek is playing great and they're both looking healthy, they should be moved. Now would be perfect at the quarter mark of the season, when teams know what moves they need to make. Retaining half on both looks even better for a team needed a solid goalie and former #1 overall showing his knee is fine. Kaiser can be added in one of those trades, he played good after being sat but Allan has shown he can play, both are great skaters, go with the bigger guy who's younger and won gold with 4 guys in the system, plus he was a captain for a reason. Crevier scoring should hopefully solidify him a spot. DO IT KD! Pull the trigger.

He is on the last year of his contract and almost certainly won't return given the depth of prospects percolating in the system. Let's hope he continues to recover from his injuries and starts producing consistent scoring numbers. He could be a valuable trade chip by the deadline. My guess is that the three older veterans - Martinez, Smith and Maroon - also will be moved at that time for the same reason. They'll all likely want one last chance to play for a cup; Davidson should accommodate them when the time comes. He'll also need some roster space for promoting Rockford kids by March. For now, I think we need to appreciate how these players are impacting the kids in a positive way (Kaiser, Allan, Crevrier and especially Reichel). On the other hand, I would be keeping both Mrazek and Murphy for the remainder of this year unless a contender presents a ridiculous offer that's just too good to refuse. The team needs these two guys to maintain stability to the roster for the short term. It is not a coincidence that all the young defencemen have improved greatly this year as they gain some confidence. The truth is that Mrazek is the team's best player most nights. It is past time to slow down the constant roster turmoil. Stripping the team down to its studs while adding futures is not going to speed up the "rebuild." Davidson has already tried this approach once. If he does it again, he should be fired.

At any one time on the trade market, there are really only five types of assets available.
1) Veterans on expiring contracts, typically from non-playoff teams 2) Overpaid or undesired players either from cap-strapped teams looking to save money or from tanking teams 3) Players looking for new contracts on teams with cap issues 4) Future assets from contenders looking to load up and win now. 5) Disappointing older prospects whose progress has stagnated and would likely be claimed if exposed to waivers.
For asset classes 1-3, the team looking to move the player almost always wants futures (draft picks and prospects) as the return.
Should the Hawks decide to trade Murphy and Mrazek, the return almost certainly would be asset class 4-5 above: futures/disappointing former prospects. Teams looking to win now are not going to part with established players who could help them compete for a cup.
The days of a team trading from surplus are done. "Hockey Trades" don't really exist any longer.
Do the Hawks need more draft picks and prospects? Won't they already be receiving plenty while moving on from Hall, Martinez, Smith and Maroon?

If Maroon's tired of chasing deep PO runs and figures a few summers off could extend the career,I'd re-sign him for two years next time. Maybe the game's changing, but how much will that matter to the Big Rig if opponents want to target Bedard and other kids who'll be arriving? Say what ya want but the guy's a career-long, certified BADASS and he still has more than enough ability to skate bottom-six,a smart HC might stick him in front on the PP too.
Chicago's the closest NHL team to his home town of StLou and a two-year deal would give the guy and our roster some much needed stability. Maybe having a tough-ass vet on the roster offers youngster a bit of security and comfort, unless we want 37yro Foligno back to settling everybody else's hash by himself.
Paddy Maroon' supposed to be great 'in the room',he still has the ability to play a very effect role on any team's 4th line and he's tough as they come.....period.

If the Big Rig was just some washed-up goon stumbling-around and looking to make trouble,I'd expect to be skewered but he's far from that IMO. The Big Bastard actually plays an honest game as far the the physicality department goes but with the ability to take things to the next level when needed. He still skates well enough to play his position responsibly, he still has some offensive touch and he plays heavy. Doesn't Reichel look more comfortable out there with him?

I asked this a while back about Reichel needing an enforcer type next to him to give him that confidence to not have to worry about getting hit, we had little back up at the time. That line is looking pretty good. I agree about signing Maroon for longer too, hopefully he can pass on advice for any future tough guys coming through.

If one or more of the veterans (Smith, Maroon, Martinez and Hall) is willing to re-sign here, Davidson should explore the option.
The fewer changes for next year the better. These guys are all proven winners.
But what do the players want? My guess is they agreed to come here with the understanding that Davidson would find them a good landing spot at trade deadline. There needs to be a few job openings for next year, but not many.

That might be a big part of it uk, but the truth is,Maroon's a smart player with a decent passing touch who makes room for his line mates and does the dirty work. Maybe he does want to chase another deep PO run with a contender, but if he feels he's found a place to hang his hat, the kids could use a big brother on the roster.....a big, bad brother.

At this point, I agree with you. I think he wants to extend his career. Make more money if you will. I think he may be a Hawk for another year. O would welcome him back instead of another 4th round pick. Happy Yanksgiving my friend. It was a good one here! Gooooo lions! And we haven’t been able to say that in a long time!!!

Happy Yanksgiving to you and the rest of the group! The Lions are very fortunate the Bears have an IMBECILE for a HC my friend, but the Lions do look like they mean business. They fell asleep a little on the Bears in the 2nd half but that'll be a wake-up call for em going forward and 11-1 teams get few wake-up calls. The Bears had every opportunity to beat the Pack,Vikes and Lions in back-back-back fashion and came away 0-3.......LOFL!!!!!!

I know we're only at the 'quarter pole' but Taylor Raddysh has been a reliable and effective player for a VERY competitive Washington team. He saw over 15mins in last night's come back win in Tampa, many of em with Strome and Protas and a little PP time too. He had a sweet dish on the rush over to Strome for the game tying 3rd period goal......... www.nhl.com/gamecenter/tbl-vs-wsh/2024/11/27/2024020351/summaryWhy does a rebuilding team with eight available contract spots and a so-so roster to be polite just let a large-framed, 26yro,cheap,forward a year removed from 20 goals at 24 walk? Raddysh was an integral part of the Caps energy line before Ovi went down and so is 27yro 'tough as nails' Brandon Duhaime. I thought Duhaime coulda been a cheap FA signing here over the summer, his 'motor' is 2nd to none, he's a hell of a PK'r for the 9th best PK in the league, his TOI is at a career high and he should easily surpass his meager, career offensive output but that's not why you have him on your team. The guy is pure energy, adrenaline and a little testosterone, he forechecks with purpose, he defends well, he's a good skater and he's QUICK to come to the aid of a team mate. He was looking for fair value and two years of security in last summer's UFA market and the Caps will NOT regret giving it to him! edit: that link will only take ya to the NHL shop now for some reason....sorry bout that.
