one of the scariest things is that it appears that once you get it and recover, you can get it again.
on a side note, alcohol ban has extended in my province here until the end of the month. not sure what that accomplishes but it is what it is. night terrors soon to follow. : D
are most here shut-ins? or are many of you still at your jobs? just curious. (nosy)

It would be interesting to hear how others are coping and I'd like to add I respect all views on the issue. I'm very fortunate to be semi-retired with little need to leave my house and little change to my income. Everyone's investments have taken a hit but history says they always come back. My trips to the store involve some aggravation with others who don't 'mask up' and have no hesitation to walk right by you in an isle, three times I had to walk away from my cart because somebody wanted to look at what I'm F'n lookin' at...….didn't say a word and I was proud of myself. PLENTY of booze available though LOL! All stores now have plexi-glass at checkout and X's on the floor to designate 6 feet but there is some aimless wandering throughout the rest of the place. I'm also very fortunate to live in a rural setting and even more fortunate to have talked my older brother to move out this way a few years back since he has health issues. I have great empathy for those residing in housing, apartment or condo complexes. Talking to friends in the car business tells me some are working and some are laid-off,Illinois has a 'by appointment only' policy for auto-retail and they're actually sending in under-cover officials to enforce it since they know they can trust dealers as far as they can throw em!LOL! Dealers who have a commission only pay plan have cut salesperson's hours but haven't laid anyone off.....why would ya?LOL! One of my very best buds and a dam Canadian to boot moved to LV with his wife last year, she had a great job lined up and he knew he'd find something appropriate with his backround too. He was head buyer and director of pre-driven sales for a six store chain until he walked into work three weeks ago and was told he wasn't,he was laid off along with almost everyone else when all stores closed or drastically cut their hours. Vegas actually closed every casino(OUCH)and shut down two weeks before Illinois did.

My trips to the store involve some aggravation with others who don't 'mask up' and have no hesitation to walk right by you in an isle... I now venture out to two stores once a week(masked up),one a big box where I can buy almost anything and one an Italian specialty market. The masks outnumber the no-masks about 60-40 lately but I'll be a son of a bitch if it ain't the no-masks who ignore the six foot distance. Some supermarkets will resort to one way lanes now because some shoppers are just to stupid to figure it out on their own. I go about an hour or two before close which leads to sparser crowds but also sparser shelves....oh well. 'Liberate the supermarket?' I would add a LOFL but their's no L'ing about 52 THOUSAND dead! Mmmmm…..a shot of Lysol for breakfast and I'm good to go!

face-masks are very cheap, easy and effective way to stop spreading virus. Thanks to early media campaign, politicians who led by example incl. Ms. President and disciplined ppl here who wore masks even about 2 weeks before it was made mandatory. Slovakia has lowest #of deaths per million in the whole Europe, only 3.30 per million ... our neighborhood Austria 60.96 and ie Belgium 621.

i tell you....it's going to be interesting to see what happens with these 48 states that decide it's time to open up. myself...in my humble opinion...i don't think it's going to work out fine. i hope i'm wrong on this.
edit: i'd hope we can keep the politics out.

wow. first i've heard of it. i didn't even know they did that here. asked the g/f about it, she says some people do it on their kids but it didn't seem like a big thing in this area at least. i'll tell you what...it'd sure be cool if all the trials they are doing in the u.s. showed that this simple thing could help prevent this and other airborne diseases. tbh....i'm not sure why thailand and her neighbors have had success. climate might be one reason. it's been hotter than hell's hinges here this summer season. many days north of 44c (110f), which i hate, but maybe it's a good thing this year. i can only speak for my area but from what i've seen here, i think the main reason of the success is that people here actually listen to their government and do what they're told. almost everyone here still wears a mask. the govt. shut down all the airlines, passenger trains, buses and banned people travelling between the 76 provinces. and still, to get into the local 7-11 or small supermarkets here, your temperature is taken and you're obliged to take a squirt of hand disinfectant. and the curfew here remains in place but has been shortened to 11 pm until 4 am. at the start of all this we were getting over a hundred new infections a day and now most days it's either 0 or single digits at worst. not a lot of testing so hard to say if the numbers are accurate, but the one number that never lies (assuming the data is accurate) is deaths per million. we're at 0.8/million which is among the world's lowest. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/?utm_campaign=homeAdvegas1?%20#countriesthings opening up here again slowly so we'll see how it goes. our shop is opening tomorrow for the first time since mid march. just food, no alcohol allowed and the distancing rules are in effect but i don't imagine overcrowding will be a problem. not many here have money to spend on something as frivolous as a pizza or a latte. seems we picked a bad time to open a restaurant. : )

I really wish they'd show the number of tests given when they report the positive test results. Or the percentage of positives compared to the number tested. It's hard to compare results between states and the rest of the world when standards of reporting are so different.

Yes, but not all state or countries report things the same way. Here, if you die and a car wreck and test positive it's counted as a Covid death.

Never trust stats and never trust polls. Never trust experts either. Just think of all these sports experts with their picks to win only to be wrong. They are lucky to be 50% correct in their lifetime. So why are they considered experts?
