On Wednesday, we have to take my best buddy in the get her leg amputated. It's tearing me up having to do this. She has a large tumor and I can tell she's in pain.
as GT said, the good thing is she will probably be a-ok with it once she gets feeling better. hope she gets well soon!

the thing about animals...perhaps dogs in particular, is that they just get on with life. unlike humans, they don't feel disadvantaged or hard done by...they just truck on. after the initial pain and recovery from the surgery, no doubt your dog will forget all about that 4th leg and just get on with it. will she be fitted with some sort of prosthetic? best o' luck mate. you ain't kidding, especially in the wild... couple years ago, on the second day of rifle season, my dad shot a decent buck right at first light. the next day when we skinned it, we found he had been shot in the neck with a bow earlier that fall (which was not in good shape), shot in the front leg with a rifle the day before (which was broken), and had a healed wound up high between his shoulder and spine AND another healed wound way low behind his other front shoulder... when my dad shot him, he was chasing a doe, lol. never underestimate the power of tang!

Not only is the catch impressive- so is the throw!! Partly due to the thin, cold air in calgary. : )

I like how the dog looked side to side after the catch like he was posing for all the pictures.
P.S. HsBob hasn't posted in quite a while. Is he fishing or such?

Last week I took my 13 year old boy to the vet to get x-rays to see how his arthritis was progressing, and to lay out a game plan to help him manage. During the x-rays they found a 14 cm (5.5") tumor and needed an operation to remove his spleen. I was so shocked, but the vet said it's something that doesn't present itself, and many times the only time it's found is after it's ruptured, putting the animals life at high risk. Fortunately for my boy, it was found in time and he had surgery Thursday and now recovering. On a side note, his arthritis is actually not as bad as the previous vets office had told me. I was initially told he had hip dysplasia, which he does not. And his arthritis is in 1 knee and not very severe. This was a new vet office for me. I haven't been able to find one since moving to Florida I've been happy with. But I think I have now. They told me when we went in for the initial visit they were fully booked for 2 weeks, but made arrangements to get Sonny in the next day for ultrasound and additional tests, and the following day for surgery. One of the vets also gave me her email address to reach out to her with any concerns I may have post op. They have been so outstanding in their care for Sonny. I was looking for a vet who cared about my dogs as much as I do. It appears I have found that vet. Quick question...any allergies and did they put them on Apoquel? The Kira dog had a softball size tumor on her spleen that somehow the vet missed the day before and the next day had a different vet come to the house and put her down in her favorite corner in the Blackhawk room. This was a few years ago when Apoquel wasn't even heard of but now they have ads to promote it. Just strange how so many dogs today have these unknown allergies that never existed but now there is a magic pill. Should have done an autopsy because I believe it was the cause of the tumor.

Hey Creature, fantastic to see you on here again, you're certainly missed! There's no way to know for sure, but when I moved to Florida 7 years ago everyone said I had to get them on flea and tic meds. I chose Bravecto and it ended up killing my girl, and since my boys surgery I've learned his spleen issue may also be a direct result of giving him Bravecto. I no longer give my dogs (he needed a buddy after I lost Brandy so got a 7 year old female from a shelter 2 and a half years ago) any flea and tic meds and they've been fine. My next door neighbor is a native Floridian and said he's never used flea and tic. Sonny still doing well, although less active at 14. But he still comes running for food, and to go for walks. And seems the 2 dogs have decided it's play time after meals. I feed them 3 times a day (total 2 cups split up) and as soon as they finish, they start playing.

What part of Florida are you at? I'm in Adairsville Ga now about 60 miles NW of Atlanta on I75 what a weird place with weather. Still in the southern most part of the Appalachians and still elevated but humidity? Not here. It's friggin less but go 20 miles south it's like hitting a brick wall of it. Also thunderstorms. Wow got the full meaning of rolling thunder. It's like your sleeping in a bowling alley. Let's see if we can hook up sometime.

Our property taxes went down. I'll get what we owe beginning of September.

I take all my annual, bi-annual, and quarterly bills for the year and add the total up, divide it by 12 (months) then each month put that into a savings account for when each come due. I bump up a bit for increases but come pretty close. My savings account is untouchable except for those bills.
