MLB has been looking to reduce the average game time played now for the past 5-10 years. They already have implemented a pitch clock (not sure how often that is enforced), limits to the mound visits by manager, coaches, catcher/infielders and recently when a pitcher comes in, he has to pitch to a minimum of batters unless he is hurt. The runner on second automatically when the game goes into extra innings while it was during Covid it was another way to reduce the actual time game is played. It was first tried in the minor leagues and other independent leagues as a trail and now adopted by MLB. While some baseball purists like the extra innings and strategies that are involved, others did not want to see 5 and 6 hours games being played. Most of this is to try and attract new viewers/fans (mostly younger) and keep the game moving along. The days of going to a game, working a scorecard and actually following the game are long gone for the most part. Go a to game or watch it on TV and most are not paying attention, everyone is on their phones, taking selfies, drinking and discussing everything but baseball. Nothing wrong with this, just stating the obvious and with the games dragging on and pockets of no real action very easy for the fan or viewer to lose focus or concentration. There are purists out there that would love to see a 1-0 game, rather than a slugfest. The average fan and now the new ones they are trying to attract need to see action=homeruns, stealing bases, not moving a runner into scoring position by hitting to the right side. My opinion the most exciting play in baseball is a triple. It sounds like you've been to the world's largest singles bar and beer garden located at 1600 W Addison St in Chicago.....LOL. Twenty games under/twenty games out after trading nearly every popular/high paid player yet still 9th in MLB @32,781 per.........wait'll next year!!! The 14th highest payroll in the league(half of even the 5th highest team)will decrease even further with the departure of Contreas and Happ for Billionaire owners who've gotten their way on everything. The team was purchased by the Ricketts(isn't that a disease?)back in '09' for 845M but after getting to 'junk-up' the old landmark with the biggest jombo-trons in the world, building a hotel next door and buying every roof-top building along with most of 'Wrigleyville'.....the Org's valued @3.8 Billion only 13 years later. Back in October of 2021 Tom Ricketts said this: Jed and the team are now focused on reloading our roster. We have the resources necessary to compete in 2022 and beyond, and we will use them. We will be active in free agency and continue to make thoughtful decisions to bolster our team this offseason. So nice of him to be thoughtful. Remind me again what are they competing for in 2022? The Cubs can be in last place and still fill the largest salon in Chicago, most go there to socialize, drink and have a good time, again not judging here. Most who go there now would not know what a double switch means and why you on an intentional walk do not have to throw four balls to the catcher anymore. Far cry when I used to take the Central & Addison buses to the game, the upper deck was closed on most weekdays (even in the summer), and you basically could sit anyway in the bleachers way back in the mid-seventies. Ticket, bus fare hot dog & coke for about $5 to $6 dollars. The bus going back was packed and we saved $.10 sneaking in through the back door. I need to repent that sin for basically stealing from the CTA.

As much as I loathe Cubs ownership,we have to mention they brought in 'Theo' and that resulted in the best era of MLB in Chicago any living human can recall to be fair.....by a mile. The 'bar' for the franchise was LOW,with only six modern day PO appearances and ONE series win to go along with dozens of last place finishes over their 108 year odyssey. The group 'Theo' assembled won two series and went to the NLCS the year before they did the unthinkable, went back to the NLCS the following year and made the PO's 2 of the next 3..........ABSOLUTELY unparalleled in modern day Chicago BB history. I believe the Cubs were also a good team back before electricity and cars....LOL. I think Theo smelled a rat though when he walked away from the last year of a very lucrative contract, the team was still competitive winning it's division by 4 games in '20' only to see Darvish shipped out after regaining Cy Young runner up form.......Baez,Bryant,Rizzo and Schwarber all would follow......all for prospects or nothing in return as far as salary . I'm not saying the team has to keep all those guys or overpay anybody but dump em all and do what with ALL that $$$? How the F do you not keep a decent player like Rizzo, he'll have 30+ with the Yanks and he's also a great guy, face of the franchise type? Play in the league's smallest 'bandbox',the DH is coming to the NL and you don't pay a guy like Schwarber? Who wants to see homers at Wrigley anyway?LOL! The kid tears up his knee to start '16' after a promising rookie season, misses all but 5gms of the WS,goes 7 for 17(.412/.500OBP) with 3 walks and 2 SB's. He'll never hit for average but the four years following the WS saw 105HR's and 236RBI's in 480gms for the Cubs,32/71 last year in only 113gms and 36/78 this year in 125 games and counting. Ya gotta pay somebody in BB.....don't ya? Why not a couple of squeaky clean, uber popular homerun hitters? Or not!

It's great to see the NL homerun champ playin' for a WS title,Kyle Schwarber has been in the league for eight years and his team has played in the postseason seven of em. No 480ft HR's last nigh(just a single) but he coaxed a HUGE walk outta Verlander and scored the game tying run from 1st on a double with a very attentive piece of base running. Big game one road win against the Houston cheaters! www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY8URgiLi6g

What the heck happened to David Ross? Right after the season ended Ricketts/Hoyer had nothing but great things to say about him and looking forward to next season.
Counsell is getting a five-year contract from the Cubs worth over $40 million. At roughly $8 million annually, this is easily a record for the largest managerial contract ever. So much for being cheap as it relates to manager salaries, plus they have to pay Ross for another year at probably half of what they are giving to Counsel. Now let's see if they spend some of those profits on players.
