Cool video. That is some old school equipment, not too many safety features.

Cool pics.
To the bold: Why are they no longer in use? Not sure how they even work.
tbh, i'm not 100% sure either. i know we'd weigh our truck first, drive up a ramp, lift the box and dump the grain through a huge grating, then weigh the truck and head home. the "elevator" term is that somehow (mechanically) the grain was "elevated" by some kind of vertical conveyer and put into bins where it could be fed by gravity into trains or bigger tucks. keep in mind there was a big annexed building that sat beside the structure you see above where the different grains were stored. i shouldn't say they are no longer in use. but the old wooden elevators have been replaced by steel and concrete silos and elaborate pipework that in no way resembles the old style wooden ones. i'm only guessing the reason why but the main reasons for most change of any kind (cost and efficiency) are likely reasons 1 and 2. and grain dust is extremely flammable so the less wood the better i suppose. Very enlightening and informative ......'Ken Burns-like' almost!

Bigger danger with grain dust is not fire, but it is very explosive.

Bigger danger with grain dust is not fire, but it is very explosive. yep...i should've used that word. same as coal dust i guess. like grain dust, you sweep it in a pile and put a match to it, nothing much happens. but once it's dispersed in the air as dust, look out. actually, a YT video i just watched says that grain dust is 9X more explosive than "pittsburg coal dust". i won't post the video...it's even more boring than the last one. : D

My latest PC build. Being gifted to my nephew and his stepson. nice! where do I sign up for one? 😁 It wasn't quite finished at that point. Had to wait for the white graphic card to arrive. The card cost almost as much as the rest of the pc combined. The final product after.

Thanks. It's really half as powerful as mine. It's more of a show looking PC for a nine year old. It's got a Ryzen 5 5600x cpu. But for a kid it's good enough for the next 5 years. Mine has a Ryzen 9 5900X cpu

My next one will probably be a complete water cooled PC. That one I'll have a pro build it for me. There's no way I can cut glass tubing and make it perfect.

This white one was just a whim thought as I looked at mine and thought what it would like in white instead of black. I've seen places like Microcenter charge anywhere from 80 for a basic build up to 800 for a water cooled system. All depends on the bells and whistles you want to add.

funny how safety standards change over time. speaking of slides, this picture below is my school until grade 3 when they closed it and shipped us to a bigger town 10 miles away. the slide is the fire escape from the second floor. (first floor was grades 1-6, second floor grades 7-12). not sure it would pass code these days.

The final product after. I already upgraded this kids PC to be stronger than mine since my Nephew took it over. Have plans to start another upgrade on my personal build to a water cooled system. Just have to wait for GPU prices to start dropping by 50%. $4K to $2K Already got the water block for the CPU.

i'm sure most everyone here has seen this but this clip gives me goosebumps every time i watch it.
just amazes me how this beast seemed to find another gear at about 30 seconds into the video.
at 80-1 he was the second longest longshot (91-1 in 1913) to win the derby. he wasn't even in the race until the day before when another horse was scratched. the owner paid $30K for him and in winning the derby he won over 60X that.
great call, great ride, great horse.

Great ride and some good fortune when the rail opened up but wouldn't ya figure the bastard would be tired afterward?...... www.thesun.co.uk/sport/horseracing/18518905/kentucky-derby-winner-bites-man-post-race-footage/Handled the stallions in a standardbred breading shed for a few years and some are MF'rs,especially once they start breeding but I was a young cow poke back then. NL Skipper picked me up and shook me one morning......no shit.....LOL! 95% of male horses are geldings for a good reason! Not a mean horse the trainer said? That's one mean stud horse right there......I guarantee.......I seen mean ones'

Thankfully the real bad weather went south of me though the tornado siren went off for a few minutes.......false alarm.......dealing with extremely hot weather today.......high of near 100 with a heat index possibly of near 110.

It was fairly close to me. The sirens were going crazy. But the scariest part was the constant rumble of thunder, not just lightning and a clap of thunder, but constant thunder rumble. Found a few roof shingles in my yard but not any of mine. A few down tree limbs all around too.

pretty amazing the effects adding or subtracting one species from an ecosystem.
in this case, releasing 14 wolves back into yellowstone park 27 years ago eventually changed the course of rivers.
