thought i'd make a thread just to put in posts that don't really fit anywhere else here in the lounge or posts that likely don't merit their own threads. anyways...i'm a huge seinfeld fan and i saw this today where they rank all of the 169 seinfeld episodes from worst to best. of course ranking something like the seinfeld episodes leaves the writers open to a lot of criticism as do most articles that rank things because everyone has different likes/dislikes and different takes on things. anyways, the two that i thought were ranked way too low was "the jimmy" at #119 and "the puffy shirt" at #86. those two are among my favorites. i wasn't surprised to see "the contest" at #1....that was the episode when the 4 made a bet to see who could go the longest without...shall we say...pleasuring themselves. anyways, if you're not a seinfeld fan, move on. nothing to see here. www.vulture.com/2015/06/every-seinfeld-episode-ranked.html?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s1&utm_campaign=vulture

I know every episode too well. "The Fire" at number four is my favorite, but that might change once I go through the whole list.

"The Fire" at number four is my favorite, but that might change once I go through the whole list. yeah....that was a dandy. there wasn't a single episode i hated, just some i liked more than others. i forgot to mention earlier, i thought "the soup nazi" was way too low at #143. "you're pushing your luck little man." anyways, i don't really worry about the rankings so much...i just enjoyed reading through it and being reminded of episodes i'd forgotten about. i bought the whole set on DVD at some shady place in bangkok selling pirated discs, i've watched every episode likely 8 times over, maybe more. the soup nazi was based on a real guy in NY, but you likely knew that. www.newyorker.com/magazine/1989/01/23/albert-yeganeh-the-real-soup-nazi

I've seen every episode of that show at least twice, but I can't say that I've ever had a favorite.
I could be forgetting, though, as I haven't seen it with any regularity in a solid decade, maybe more.
I always enjoyed the golf ball episode, that much I do know, lol. hole in one! 😅

Larry is the star of the show. it is a fictionalized version of him living in LA. he is basically George, but without the need for censorship cuz it is on HBO. in other words, he is a giant asshole, lol. definitely worth watching. similar to Seinfeld in that it isn't really "about" anything other than the shenanigans he gets into, which are almost always brought on by himself... for my money, Seinfeld will always be better, because of the characters there, but Curb is very funny in its own right. one season finale actually has the cast of Seinfeld in it, revolving around a reunion show. hilarity ensues...

this is one galaxy.
there are anywhere from hundreds of billions to 2 trillion galaxies in the universe.
just saying it might be hard to narrow down where all these UFOs are coming from. : )

i don't mean to brag, but a couple months ago totally by accident i discovered my name on the stanley cup. b. turner (right side almost halfway down) was listed as a trainer on the '56 cup champs, but it was a mistake. bob turner was actually a defenseman for montreal and played previously for the blackhawks. my first name is robert but i go by my middle name which starts with a b also. anyone else got their name on lord stanley? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Cup_winning_players

to be honest, for some reason i can't click and drag images from google images anymore. well....somedays i can but today i couldn't, don't ask me why. but in google images i found a tweet with the same picture in it so i just clicked on the tweet and posted it like i normally do. i never saw this tweet before today. EDIT: now the bloody tweet has disappeared but i was able to drag a photo in. the "Ass Man" joke was that kenny reardon (assistant manager) was called Ass Man on the cup. so good luck with your pez/junior mints hockey reference. if that fails, may i suggest to try drake's coffee cake or bosco chocolate syrup reference?

I've had some of the impossible burger, but it was in spaghetti sauce so I didn't notice much of a difference. however, I will say that it blew me right out shortly thereafter. the special lady and I got invited for dinner at a relatively new acquaintances new place up in the UP and she was super thrilled when I went in and blew up the shitter after dinner. did I mention it was the only bathroom in the cabin? lucky for her I waited until most everyone was outside watching the sun set.... 😁

Buona Beef has a new meat-less italian beef samich they've been advertising. I'm curious to give it a try, but never had anything like that.

i did a google search for it and now of course it's in every other bloody advert here on my computer.
anyways, you can get it here at a high end market in town (it's called "beyond meat") but it's 4X the price of regular beef burger.
anyways....i will give it a go when i see it (after making sure there's a candle in the shitter.)

used to be thousands of these grain elevators across the prairies, no doubt the u.s. had their share too. even most of the smallest towns had one, or even 2 sometimes.
i haven't made the manitoba to alberta drive in years but i bet you'd be hard pressed to find more than a dozen or 2 these days, likely none still in use.
anyways, i thought it was an interesting photo.

To the bold: Why are they no longer in use? Not sure how they even work.

tbh, i'm not 100% sure either. i know we'd weigh our truck first, drive up a ramp, lift the box and dump the grain through a huge grating, then weigh the truck and head home. the "elevator" term is that somehow (mechanically) the grain was "elevated" by some kind of vertical conveyer and put into bins where it could be fed by gravity into trains or bigger tucks. keep in mind there was a big annexed building that sat beside the structure you see above where the different grains were stored. i shouldn't say they are no longer in use. but the old wooden elevators have been replaced by steel and concrete silos and elaborate pipework that in no way resembles the old style wooden ones. i'm only guessing the reason why but the main reasons for most change of any kind (cost and efficiency) are likely reasons 1 and 2. and grain dust is extremely flammable so the less wood the better i suppose.

Cool thanks, good info and it makes sense.
Farming has always kind of fascinated me, I'll have to take a tour of a farm one of these days. Every time I drive through a rural area I always wonder what some of the equipment does.

i could've easily been a farmer. i was the youngest of 3 brothers, and brothers 1 and 2 didn't want to farm. i gave it a lot of thought but it just wasn't in my blood so dad sold it off when i was about 16 if i recall. anyways, your question about how these old elevators worked kind of made me question myself as to how in the hell didn't i know how these things worked? so i'm glad you asked. good old YT to the rescue. i likely haven't been in an elevator in over 45 years so this brought back memories. i'm sure nobody will find this interesting but if you've got 15 minutes to spare....
