Thought I'd start a Movie thread (if there isn't already one).
Finally saw Clerks 3 the other day. I've always been a Kevin Smith fan for the most part. Clerks 1 is a masterpiece to me, so was looking forward to this one -- but wow, did not expect it to be this heavy. I thought I was tuning in for some mindless dick/fart jokes, next thing I knew, I'm almost crying. Anyways, I'd say it was good and really brought the Clerks saga full circle, especially if you know the history of the original movie and the inside jokes/info behind the making of it, etc. I'm not sure if Smith could have made it any other way, but it would have been nice if it wasn't so sad.
Some easter eggs: Smith's real-life daughter is the milk-maid at the end, just as his real-life mother was in the original. Randal is usually wearing a shirt that pays tribute to the original: Big Choice video (the store he goes to after borrowing Dante's car), Chewlies gum, etc.
I was really impressed with the acting, especially the guy who plays Dante. Never thought I'd say that about a Kevin Smith movie, but it's true. Even though I was expecting something completely different and a little more light-hearted, this was a fitting end for the movie that made Kevin Smith.

I was a big Smith fan (my Avatar is a Smith homage afterall ), so I’ll have to catch up. ….after losing all that weight he looks like Robert Downey Jr’s brother.

I will say that Denis Villeneuve hit it out of the park with his Dune duology. He’s really hit his stride with his last several movies, I’m glad to see he’s attached to the Rendezvous with Rama adaptation, a movie that can probably be done justice with technology catching up to the story.

I might have been in a bad mood when I watched Dune I. I thought it was fine, but I didn't love it. I want to give it another chance because Dune II looks good, at least from the previews. People are already calling that series the new Star Wars.

People are already calling that series the new Star Wars. Myself , I wouldn’t compare it to Star Wars, it’s more cerebral. The source novel is deep and dense. Villenueve’s movies, even Sicario, tend to be slow, mood builders with bursts of action. Once I was able to shake the David Lynch version out my head I realized it’s a far more accurate representation of the book. I’m hearing he’s got one more in him.

Haven't seen either Dune 1 or 2.
Just the OG from 1984.

Haven't seen either Dune 1 or 2. Just the OG from 1984. The original wasn’t as bad as they say for the time, it was stylistic and decently acted, just too much crammed into too little time with some questionable plot devices. Ever catch the “Alan Smithee” version? Added some scenes with an absolutely terrible narration. The new ones will need to be watched like the LOTR trilogy, lay in lots of snacks and your choice of what keeps you happy and watch them straight through like a single movie.

LOTR might just be the greatest trilogy of them all. 2 of the 3 OG Star Wars were great, the other 6, meh, at best.

Alright, I have to post this, it's too perfectly appropriate: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d_oSWH4pMQ&ab_channel=sesepeWhich one of the 2 OG Star Wars didn't you like? I'm guessing Jedi? I like all of them, but to me, that's the weakest one of the three.

I'd probably give it a 7-8 out of 10. Definitely agree with you on the last 3, but I'd also say, the prequels were trash too. I'll give them a little more credit because at least they were more original, but still bad. I can't believe they're bringing back Rey too. I have nothing against a female lead, but her trilogy was just awful; they should have just started something new without her and just gone back to the drawing board. I will not be seeing those; I never thought I'd be saying that about a Star Wars movie(s), but I have zero interest in a continued Rey saga.

I won't bother watching another Star Wars thing again. disney did exactly what I feared: they ruined it. the prequels were bad enough, but, as you said, at least it was original. 7-9 were straight booty cheeks. my brother in law walked out of episode 7, lol. I mean, did no one notice that it was THE EXACT SAME STORY as the original one? come the fuck on... then 8 happened and another buddy of mine quit. he still hasn't watched anything SW since then. the Luke story line just completely infuriated him (and myself). we've been waiting, what, 40 years and THAT is what we get? I guess him projecting himself across the galaxy is cool, but I want to see him beat some assssssss now that he is older and a full blown Master. nope, gotta watch a Disney plus show to see that. guess no one at Disney realized that the reason people liked Rogue One so much was likely due to the end scene and actually getting to see Vader kick some Rebel ass... my favorite was 9, though, because before even seeing episode 7, I had made a prediction that Rey would be related to the Emperor. after 8 seemed to dispell that, it turns out I was right about the morons at Disney and they couldn't resist making her related to the big villain AND he was still alive!! lol, what a joke... /end rant

That was it, I just couldn't do it after the Obi-Wan series. Never saw Season 3 Mando, because I didn't and don't care anymore. I did watch Book of Boba Fett, which was also not good. So many people have told me I need to see Andor -- they've been telling me for years (it seems, can't recall exactly when that came out), but I just can't -- I have zero interest in watching it because in all honesty, I really don't give a shit about that character. Yup, Disney really did ruin it by watering it down and cashing in on everything they could. It's sad. And the Obi Wan series just diminished A New Hope in terms of Vader and Obi Wan; and Leia. I guess Obi Wan gave us what we always wanted in a "real" duel between Vader and OW (that we certainly never got in A New Hope, lol), but to me, that end doesn't justify the means. I'll get murdered for saying this, but 8 (Last Jedi) is my favorite of the newest 3, if I have to pick. 7 -- I just can't, like you said, it's a fucking carbon copy of 4, almost to a T, zero originality. And 9 was such a cluster fuck, I almost feel like it should have never been made. 8 sucks -- don't get me wrong -- but at least Johnson was actually trying to tell an original story; and to me, it has the best moments of the latest trilogy (R2 showing Luke the old Leia transmission to convince him to help Rei, Luke seeing the two sunsets when he dies, Yoda was cool I thought, etc.). You can tell Johnson was trying to take the story in another direction, which I respect much more so than Abrams. I don't disagree that Luke's angle could have been better -- and I would have liked to see him kick some ass too -- but his arc in the movie was a twist I did not see coming and I like the idea of him sacrificing himself to save the rebellion. But overall, it still blows, lol. Leia through space....I mean, seriously.

I'm gonna piggyback on the movies thread with a TV post...
did anyone watch the final season of Curb here? while the final episode wasn't as funny as other in this final season, I very much enjoyed the ending. I knew from the very first episode of the season what was gonna happen and then...
I don't want to say any more of others have yet to watch it, but it was pretty, pretty, prettttyyyy good.

I have not, unfortunately. I love Curb, seen every season but this last one, since I don't have Max. I'm waiting for Comcast to give me a free preview, and I'll binge it all then.
