likewise, man! doing fair 'round these parts here. looking forward to the day when we are back to normal. I figure somewhere around 300 or so more days to go before a return to semi-normal. probably tack on another 365 or so before things are mostly-normal. any estimates on when full on normal is to return are TBD..... in the meantime, estimates on how many rounds they get in before having to shut this farce down? I'm gonna say mid second round, so about halfway. I don’t want to get political on here. But I really feel for you fine folk over there. When leaders would rather mouth off than give direction, it’s not going to go well. Imagine FDR or The Truman or Kennedy etc during times of war or the threat of war blaming their political rivals and not uniting the front for the betterment of democracy? And I’m not just talking about the orange fella. All levels of government have seemed to fail. I’m not a big fan of Canadian politics. But we’ve seemed to put our differences aside and kick some ass here. Plus I’m positive we seen the worst of this thing last November, December and January. However, our leaders, especially Doug Ford has really put aside his agenda and let the health professionals do their thing. He really just stepped aside for the betterment of our province. And I believe he was/is a guy who likes Trump. Anyways, I’m sorry if any of that struck a nerve with anyone. I for one still see America as world leaders, but America’s leaders didn’t lead and now they’re not world leaders when the world needs them the most. I’m pulling for the American folks, I still feel you’ll pull through, cuz you always have!!! yeah don't want this to get too political but it's very sad here right now that such a bad situation can't even get people to put their differences aside and rise above it at least to get past this and move on sadly, we are very selfish here in the states and when you combine that with a combo of ignorance and arrogance it's lethal too many here don't care for science at all and have zero respect or trust in "experts" in any field really but right now that is scientists/doctors/epidemiologists we live in the information age, but thanks to the internet anyone can quickly look up anything and believe they know as much as people who dedicate their entire lives to the subject at hand... that's not limited to science or the pandemic it extends to all walks of life, sports included

Hey Merp Where's that 'fire everybody' thread now that we need it my man.......last place and a soft as hell team has brought me around. I hope the brighter days arrive soon @63 and best of health to you as well. Hey Bob, only took 7 years or so but glad to have you on board. Oddly enough, while I am unhappy with their current situation, I'm not as mad about it as I thought I'd be. It's the funny thing about expectations. When they were sky high and we expected them to win every night, I'd get bent out of shape and really mad/down when they didn't (especially against a rival). Now that there's no expectations and I assume they're going to lose every night I kinda just shrug it off. Of course, I'd rather it be the other way around but... If the team cleaned house and were actually rebuilding,I could live with last place but continuing on without a rebuild and WITH the guy who put us in last place is unacceptable when so many other better, cup winning GM's got the boot. I shrug off the losses myself merp but that's called apathy and if it continues much longer for me I'll lose interest. Watching the great players who brought multiple cups here and me so much joy is about all that's left now.

i really just hope that the majority of players (crow included) deemed "unfit for whatever" are just ones who may have been exposed to a positive covid case and are just being quarantined X amount of days until it's sure they're negative.
i really hate this uncertainty.

^yeah it really is absurd they are doing this
4 months ago the NBA and NHL stopped on a dime when a few players on 1 team had it and now when many are either testing positive or have to isolate cause of potential exposure we're going back to sports again... and the country is in worse shape now than it was back then

What I don't get is that Toronto is one of the hub cities for the NHL and yet the Blue Jays have been refused the right to play their home games in Toronto by the Federal government of Canada.

As the hub cities are both in Canada, players won't be traveling to and from the US to play, while in baseball it's not the Blue Jays they are concerned about, it's the remainder of the teams traveling to and from the US, where Coronavirus is out of control they are worried about.
It's kind of like the NBA playing in a bubble in Orlando. Nobody in or out of the area except players and essential personnel, limiting the chances of an outbreak.

Yes, this is it as I have put together from various things today. Granted, it would be the Blue Jays they'd eventually become concerned about after they leave Toronto to play in US cities/parks and then return to play at home.

good news i think but you have to remember it was just a 5 day window. that's an impressive number of tests and it's good to see. long ways to go yet, though. Only two players tested positive within the window (July 13-17) after 2,618 tests were administered to more than 800 players. According to the league, both players that tested positive "have self-isolated and are following CDC and Health Canada protocols."www.nbcsports.com/chicago/blackhawks/nhl-releases-covid-19-testing-results-first-5-days-training-camp

Also good news from the NBA where ZERO tested positive out of 346 tested since July 13. It appears, and I don't want to get too optimistic here, but it appears players are taking mask-wearing very seriously. If a virus can't find a host it dies, it's as simple as that. Hoping that once all the players who had it as they got into the bubbles will recover quickly and then they all take it seriously and there winds up being very few positive cases here on out. One of our college football insiders at work said he's spoken to most major college athletic directors and they have said zero positive tests since the initial round when the student-athletes first returned to campus. On a side note, I am cautiously optimistic that maybe this thing doesn't spread quite as easily as we'd believe or you'd think when 10 or more players on one team have it they would pass it on to many of their teammates before the test returned with results.
