Magnitogorsk won 3-2 so Kantserov will be playing in the Finals against Yaroslavl (Locomotiv) who has two old Hawks draftees playing for them - Artur Kayumov and Maxim Shalunov. Looking forward to seeing Kantserov play at least 4 more games.

Looking forward to seeing Kantserov play at least 4 more games. er, did I read this correctly: Kansterov had two assists, both primaries. Plus he led both teams in SOG with 4? This would mean he's had at least one point in each of his last three games. And it makes the second time in this semi final series that he's led both teams in SOG. I don't want to get carried away but even at 19 and coming right from juniors, it doesn't appear that playing on the top line on one of the top teams in the KHL for the playoffs has been too much for Kansterov. He doesn't seem to be overmatched. If he had been, I would have thought his coach would have moved him back to the 4th line. You would probably have a better idea of how he's looked overall after watching him for a number of games. I should make a slight edit: Kansterov tied with an opposing player for most SOG in the game.

I watched 5 1/3 of the 7 semi-final games and for most of those games - especially the last two games - I think he was the best player on the ice all things considered. His quickness and IQ are top level. He attacks the puck when he's on defense and uses his skating, vision and passing when he has the puck. I like that he's now being used on the PK wheree he can use that anticipation and quickness to disrupt plays. He had a play on the PK today when he beat the other players down ice and out-quicked two players to get the puck and get off a shot that was blocked from going on net by a third guy who joined the other two trying to deal with Kantserov.

Maybe Aiden can talk that goalie of theirs to sign with the Hawks. no kidding, he had quite the tourney run! Only 4 goals against in his last 5gms. 35 save shutout in the championship game. KD should offer him a contract. He's on the smaller side for a goalie at 6'1" 192lbs, but he's athletic and catches with his right hand, not very common

Gavin Hayes scored a goal yesterday although the Soo lost 7-2, at home. He has the puck to start with and made a nice cross ice pass, and eventually went to the net and got rewarded. Start at :57 to see the whole play by Hayes. The Soo now trail 2-1. The real puzzler in this game is how the 3rd star was awarded. I've checked this three times to be sure I was reading right. Hayes scored a goal and was even in +- for the game. His teammate D'Intino scored the other goal and was -1. Neither were the 3rd star. That honor went to their teammate, Owen Allard. Here are Allard's stats for the game, and this is correct; 0 goals, 0 assists, -2. How did that happen? chl.ca/ohl/gamecentre/27265/

Hayes with 2 assists in a 4-0 win, primary assist on the GWG. Once again he's not one of the 3 stars.

Just watched Kantserov's Magnitka beat Kayumov's Locomotiv 2-1 in the first game on the KHL Finals. All scoring in the 3rd period with Kayumov getting a nice primary assist on the opening goal. Magnitka scored the next two with Kantserov not factoring in the scoring. It was very entertaining for a 2-1 game. I think Magnitka carried the play quite handily - it was a classic speed versus size matchup with speed getting the upper hand in this game.
As for Kantserov - he played great - very noticeable for all the right reasons. He had 2 great scoring chances where he cut to the middle and got a shot on goal - didn't score obviously but both were good chances he manufactured with his quickness and puck handling. He's only 5'9" (though pretty stout) so the jury is out, as it is with all small guys, whether he can thrive in the NHL - but he is not a perimeter player by any means and he engages physically and on the boards all game long and I think with his "water bug" quickness he will be able to play his game in the NHL. Very excited to watch his future develop.

I'm watching Kantserov this morning and through 2 periods - it's, as the Russian announcers say, "nool - nool". It would be 1-0 Magnitka if not for the blasted offsides review rule. It was another case where they had to zoom in and go back and forth to determine the player's skate blade preceded the puck over the blueline by about 3/4 of an inch - AND - it did not factor into the goal which happened a bunch of passes later. I don't have the answer of how to fix that rule but it needs fixing. In my opinion.
EDIT: Magnitka won 1-0 and are now up 2-0 in the series heading to Yaroslavl for Game-3. Kantserov didn't factor in the scoring but played his overall game very well. It was interesting when Kantserov's centerman (Zernov) went hard into the boards and missed a few shifts that the coach had Kantserov center a makeshift line and he won the faceoff he took.

Magnitka won 2-1 in OT today to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the KHL Finals. Kantserov got an assist on their 1st goal when he made a nice pass to put his centerman (Zernov) in alone on the goalie who stopped Zernov's shot but the other winger (Silantyev) popped in the rebound. Very nice play by Kantserov, who also played his usual "dog on puck" game all over the ice. Kantserov now has 4 goals and 9 assists which ties him for 5th place in playoff scoring.
By the way - Kayumov looks very good - probably Lokomotiv's best player. Too bad we'll probably never see him in a Hawks jersey.

The Hawks drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft (11 picks after the Hawks took D-Cat). Not sure how long they hold his rights.

Looking back on the season, Kantserov played mostly 4th line. By the time the playoffs started he was playing top-6, mainly on the 2nd line with Danila Yurov (MIN 2022 1st round) as his centerman. Then the coach shuffled lines around and Kantserov was playing LW on the 1st line with Zernov at center and Silantyev on RW. That line has been the best line in the playoffs with all 3 at the top of playoff scoring with Silantyev tied for 3rd with 16 points and Zervov and Kantserov tied for 6th with 13 points. AND - Kantserov is by far the youngest at 19. Almost makes me hope they lose a game or two to extend the series so I can watch him play more than just one more game.

Kansterov must be pinching himself. To be 19 in the KHL, and go from a 4th liner in the regular season to being a good contributor on the top line in the playoffs, and on the verge of winning the Gagarin Cup. He couldn't have written a better script.
