Nothing to do with the draft but I was stunned to see Patrick Marleau four games away tying Goldie Howe for most games played in NHL history.

Quite an achievement and a nice show of respect from the Wild.

Very cool! Marleau has always been a warrior. Guys like him don't usually seem to last as long in the league. You could put Keith in the same category.

gordie howe's career earnings just under 1.5 million. (1 million of that was 4 years in the WHA) patrick marleau's career earnings just over 96 million to date.
edit: never realized both were born in saskatchewan. would've thought marleau was born in quebec with that francophone name of his.

And there’s just no way 1.5 prorates to 96 million in today’s money. Maybe 10. If that. It’s sad that those guys got ripped off so bad. It’s nice to see these guys make some money nowadays. And the Saskatchewan boys are unbelievably tough. Manitoba boys? Not so much!!!

You grew up in Manitoba so you know your history as well as I do. Lots of French towns and surnames across the prairies, the fur trade brought a bunch of francophones here and then the large Métis population of course. It’s why Saskatchewan and Alberta still have had separate school systems since they became provinces. Hell, even my old man never learned English until he came off the farm and went to school. You lived in Edmonton, remember all the bedroom communities with French names, Beaumant, Lamont, Leduc, Morinville, St. Albert, Legal, Lacombe etc. Guy like Marleau does the prairies well. Classy guy with no drama.

I liked that movie “Net Worth” although the Howe/Lindsey union story is just a chapter in the book. Really showed the slimy b**tards behind the scenes.

And unfortunately with every game played he extends the rather more depressing record of most games without a cup. Guess the closest was 2015-16 when they lost to the Penguins in six.

I hope he sticks around another season and tries to move to a winner one more time.

Or even Tampa or Florida. If Yandle doesn’t get the record next year for most consecutive games, I hope Marleau does it. I believe tonight was Marleau’s 900 consecutive game. Sir he finishes this year with say 912 or so. He’d break Jarvis’s record 53 games in. I still feel Kessel will coast to the record in the end. Cuz if Yandle gets it, I think he’ll be a healthy scratch at some point. And if he gets the record, it won’t be for very long. But still a gawd damn amazing feat. It’s so tough to not get sick, or hurt, or a death in the family, or anything. Kessel had testicular cancer to start his career too. I bet no one for seen this many straight for him. But I hope one of the 3 break that record. And I really do hope Marleau can hang in there long enough to get a Cup, he really deserves one!!!

Don’t get me wrong, 9 bananas is nice and all. But the guy played for 34 years. That’s roughly 264k in today’s money. Just mind boggling how much guys make today. A lot of households today bring in more than what Howe would have in today’s dollars. And it’s not like he wasn’t one of the best either. I’m happy athletes are making bank. I know many think it’s stupid. But really, these kids have dedicated their life to this, they really don’t have many other skills. And I know many will say boo hoo. But the training that they do from the age of 7 or 8, play in spring leagues now, and summer training. The kids get no time off to be a kid. It’s really a lot to ask a child. Then if they go play CHL it’s a rough schedule. Then if they get drafted, the work is unreal they have to put in. So I’m happy they get paid well. And Marleau seems like a solid guy who would be a great GM or coach. He won’t need the money, and he’ll do it for the love of the game!!!
