I have to think Marner will be on the block. I’m not sure I’d personally go for him. But what do Hawks fans think? Would he be a guy you’d be interested in? Just a thought!!!

In the words of Bob Barker, If the price is right, any deal can be done. Watching the Habs dismantle the Leaves shows me that the Hawks are built just like the Leaves. Too many dancers and not enough singers. A Habs team that’s comprised of cast aways grinders and youth. They protect kids like Caufield, and get him ice time where he can thrive. I think I’d pass on Marner at this point. We do need some help soon in top line players, but it’s hard to pay a guy that doesn’t perform when it counts!!!

he is. I think they'd have to make the trade before free agency begins, perhaps at the draft or something. sign and trade type deal. a 1st and one of their d prospects would be a start, but I'd think the jackets would want another piece that is more productive that Puljujarvi. My main worry about Jones is that he’s really only had one decent playoff series against an undermanned Tampa. So I wouldn’t go much more than what I said. Maybe some other team wants to? I hope the Hawks are not in on this. I wouldn’t give up that much for him. They’d want Dach and a 1st rounder. I’d rather see if Dach pans out. If he doesn’t, I still wouldn’t want to do it!!! he really hasn't a chance at much playoff success, though. I would like him on the 'hawks but I have zero desire to give up what it would take to make that happen, plus the cost of re-signing him...

What kind of numbers does D-Cat put up skating with some of the game's best every night? The kid's only seen 9 PO games in his career(2gls 6pts) and I don't remember who he skated with in the bubble rounds but he was on a checking line much of that regular season. Imagine this kid with a top center and a good power winger on his off side......he might challenge for the Richard trophy every year and kill penalties along the way. EXTEND HIM NOW!

Is it right that Marner has an annual cap hit of $10.9M? What would that do to projected cap space?

Is it right that Marner has an annual cap hit of $10.9M? What would that do to projected cap space? It's even worse than that: 10.903! Anyways, the Hawks can't possibly take on that without maybe sending DeHaan and Connelly back and having Toronto retains a few mil in salary. Marner is a good player, but do we need him? I am more of the mind that we need to sort through our glut of players and separate the wheat from the chaff. We have a lot of fledging, unproven talent -- or potential talent -- in Kurashev, Hagel, Suter, Gaudette, Nylander, Entwhistle, even Dach. Maybe we can build a team with what we have and then we can go out looking on the free agent market.

We don't yet know what kind of nucleus the young forwards you mentioned along with 3 or 5 young D-men will make up so let's find out by playing them in those roles. Adding top picks, prospect and FA's to a weak or unprepared nucleus results in teams like the Oilers IMO.

I keep reading either Jones to the Hawks or Hamilton. Not sure that really plays out well. Hamilton is coming off of a 5.75 million deal. He’s gonna want 7.5-8. Does spending 56 million for 7 years on him make any sense? The same will be for Jones when he wants a new deal. I couldn’t imagine giving up a lot of him when you could go after him via free agency the year after. So I think his value will be less due to that.
I look at all these rumours so far as just the Hawks fitting the bill for best writers etc. I just don’t see how it makes the most sense for the Hawks to go sign a high end free agent. Especially at that many years. 7 years is much too long for the Hawks to commit too. Plus they’ll want salary, and a NTC. I just don’t see that panning out well. I still feel the Hawks have about 7-8 holes to fill and it probably won’t be until the end of the Duo’s contract that the team will see any real improvement of the kids. It usually takes a few years until theyre on the right level. So unless Scam Bowman abandons ship and goes in a totally different direction, no point in spending money that will haunt the team moving forward!!!

It's possible that a lot of what we have now won't pan out, but let us see. The Hawks added Hossa to complete what was already a functional, contending team. Likewise, adding Hamilton or Jones to a team in flux is not going to produce good results. Maybe one of Beadin, Boqvist, Mitchell, and Kalynuk will shine. The rest can be used for trades. The team does need a puck-moving d-man. Watching the Isles, I am fairly impressed by Leddy.

They need a puck-mover (who's supposed to be Boqvist) They need a couple of solid stay-at-home guys, who we haven't had since Hjammer. Murph is a shadow of what the 'hawks need. They need a guy who can clear the crease--Zadorov was supposed to be the guy but we haven't had anyone like that since Seabrook in the mid 2010's. ~~~ As I said in another post, I think a major issue is players coming he with the expectation that they'll do well, and then they don't (and when they leave they become good again). So the patchwork idea won't cut it. Anyone the 'hawks acquire through development or trades should be a long-haul guy--not someone to just "get by until xxx develops". If that is indeed Seth Jones, then the idea has to be Seth jones is part of the group moving forward--not just a band aid. Ditto with anyone else. P

While I agree based on the think JC has instead of a system, having someone to clear out the crease and help the goalies has been a problem since ~2012..and even then only Seabrook did it. No matter how we slice it, Zadorov fell short of the physical presence in the backend with respect of the level needed. Wakey-wakey he was not.

That’s the main problem, there’s too much turnover and basically the same type player is brought in. Guys that needed a bit more time, end up on other teams doing well. The problem with rebuilding. Not all players are Toews and Kane. Most players struggle through their first 5 years and then get it. Look at Mackinnon. It’s taken him 6-7 years to be here in the 2nd round. This is why I don’t like the idea of rebuilding and keeping Toews and Kane. Dach may be an amazing player one day. But he might need till he’s 24-25!!!

With the NMC's if Toews and Kane want to stay, they'll stay. If they want to go, they'll go. There's more to this than building a roster, though. If Toews and Kane go the marketability of the team tanks--and Stan knows this. Tickets don't sell and he's cleaning peep-show booths. That being said if they want out all they have to do is ask. If they don't? I could think of worse players to be stuck with. It seems to me that the mindset of the 'hawks was to run the core until there was nothing left rather than doing a real rebuild-in-situ, and by 2020 is was too late to do so, and all acquisitions were to bolster the core and not become the next ones--with the exception of guys like Debrincat. Now, since we're beyond rebuild-in-situ, there's a pressing need to rush guys in rather than play the long game--and there's a lot of betting on guys turning out (like Mitchell, Nylander, Sikura) rather than hedging bets. No matter how you slice it, the 'hawks have failed the attempt to rebuild-in-situ and it's not looking too good for a fast rebuild. To go on the backened...instead of bringing someone up to slowly transition into Keith's role and slowly transition him out (which should have been happening since ~2017), right now the 'hawks are caught with their pants down. There isn't even a replacement for Matthew Keith, much less Duncan Keith waiting in the winds.

The "system" we have witnessed this past season is not a functional "system" in the NHL. Results pretty much show that.
Somewhere, I read that the "system" JC has been using in Chicago is the same type that the Islanders are using. WRONG! I recorded the Isles-Pens game from last night and paid particular attention to what the Isles were doing in their D-end. I did not see any D-men chasing out to the points.
I saw what most successful teams (at levels above Midget) use. One D man in the corner on the puck, Center (or first forward back) deep with that first D man. Other D man in net front coverage. Strong side wing on the boards near the hash marks. Weak side forward high in the slot. That is what I saw the Isles doing. That is what I hope the Hawks begin to do next season. It's up to JC to make this change. If he's so egotistical that he won't admit failure, then I can only say "God help the Blackhawks next season!" I've made the comparison before as Trotz was known for a man to man system, but obviously JC has taken it to different level than Trotz ever did. talking about trotz and JC.... anyways....here's this years finalists. 1. Rod Brind’Amour, Carolina – 14 points (5-9-0) 2. Joel Quenneville, Florida – 11 points (5-3-3) 3. Dean Evason, Minnesota – 10 points (5-5-0) so brind'amour wins it and signs a 3 year contract extension with the 'canes.

My best guess is Foley or Eddie were forced by the org to place a vote for JC so he looks relevant amongst coaches. Or……… the other teams in the division don’t wanna see the guy fired due him being easy to play against. Gotta be one of those two reasons for sure!!!
