He was awesome on “Missing Curfew” with O’Brien and Upshall. My goodness that is awful. 31 is way too young to go. RIP Brother Hayes!!!

He was way to young, I thought for sure the Hayes brothers would've been long time Hawks but it didn't work out.
He passed away at his home, I hope it wasn't a suicide.
RIP

Just crazy at that age. Only 31.
And with Rod Gilbert passing on Sunday @ 80.
Have to enjoy life, no promises.

RIP not trying to judge or anything, not sure what you mean by that ^ ? I’m gonna say it was a typo. OTH is a good dude and I highly doubt he’d make that statement. But nonetheless, sucks to see this happen to such a great young man. Especially with a young family like that to leave behind!!!

RIP not trying to judge or anything, not sure what you mean by that ^ ? Definitely a typo, very bad one. Jimmy had a wife and two young ones, that's why I hope it wasn't suicide. My dad took his life in 98, so I'd never wish that upon anyone.

I think if it’s natural, the family will still be devastated, but at least they don’t have that shitty feeling of thinking you let someone down and couldn’t save them. It’s stories like these that make us all a little closer. And respect each other more. Sorry to hear that about your dad!!!

RIP Jimmy.
I'll always remember that game I scored center ice, front row, 300 level for wings/'hawks the night before the game and you potted one and helped send the wangs fans sitting next to me home disappointed...

I’m not trying to make anything up here. But I’m wondering if he had a health problem or 2? He missed quite a few episodes of Missing Curfew recently. He did talk about a weird thing, how he was ready a book and his eye went cockeyed on him from it. There were also a few episodes where he was only on for a segment. I found that odd. But it could have been anything.
Sad thing is his sons 2nd birthday was yesterday. They had a party for his boy. And then this. Those poor kids won’t remember their dad at all. That’s truly upsetting. Brings a tear to the eye to think of that.
Listening to the podcast I feel you get to know the guys a lot better. They really don’t hold back. They tell their stories and have a solid time doing it. It’ll be tough for them to carry on. Sad to see this happen to a young kid. RIP Broadway “Scoops” Hayes!!!

Thanks BT, it's been over 2 decades now and time does help but yeah there's always the "what ifs" when someone close takes their life. At least I had 21yrs with my dad and a lot of good memories, sadly Jimmy's kids won't have that. Makes this a very sad situation.

i could find a hundred more like this and not even break a sweat. he sure must've been quite a guy. i never realized. I listened to him on Missing Curfew podcast with Shane O’Brien and Scottie Upshall. After listening to them for the last year. You get to know their personality. He’s loved by everyone. The best thing about hockey players, is their brutally honest about stuff. Hayes told a story about how he almost broke his hand blocking a shot. Kane told him “Kid, take the minus and get the hell out of the way”. Theyre always ripping on themselves and it’s hilarious. Jimmy was talking about players getting to 1000 games. He’s said, “I would a got there too if coaches didn’t use the healthy scratch label on me”. He always made fun of himself about leading the league in healthy scratches. O’Brien is very funny on there. He was telling a story about him chirping Toews. He said to Toews one game “Hey Jonny, why don’t you stop being a bitch and come out for a beer after the game?”. Toews replied with “O.B. You’re a gawd damn cancer for your team and that’s why you’ll never win anything. O’Brien was laughing at the story and admitted that if he hit the gym like he did the bar, he’d of had another 6 years in the league. I highly recommend listening to the podcast. Missing Curfew. It’s hilarious and honest. Just sucks we lost Broadway Hayes. RIP Jimmy “Scoops” “Broadway” Hayes!!!

Has anyone heard any new info yet? Like if had undetected heart issues? Maybe too soon right now. Just awful with 2 young kids. it doesn't seem like there was a cut and dried cause of death. this released just a few hours ago. Jimmy Hayes' official cause of death remains unconfirmed following an autopsy.
A spokesperson for Massachusetts' medical examiner's office confirmed on Wednesday that an autopsy was completed, but the "cause and manner of death remain pending and an update is not expected for several weeks when toxicology testing comes back," read a statement provided to The Boston Globe.people.com/sports/jimmy-hayes-cause-of-death-unknown-after-autopsy/

I just read one Canadian dies from an opioid overdose every 59 minutes. Multiply by ten for the U.S. Problem is illicit fentanyl coming through our porous borders or being made in illegal drug labs and being used in other street drugs. The problem has been exacerbated by the last couple of years of lockdowns and restrictions.

It is a prescribed drug, so who was prescribing this to him since he hadn't been playing since 2019? And to boot it was with cocaine, instant death sentence. People don't just start taking coke out of the blue. He had to have been taking that too and not for pain. Maybe people should be listening to Lehner a lot more. Teams passing out pain killers long after an injury or operation. I think this might turn into a bad issue for the NHL.

Remember the Mike Richards front? How his contract got terminated. He was into pills and was getting others on the team into them. But again, it wasn’t the biggest kept secret. Teams need to be a lot better at handing out this shit. Team Drs should be held accountable. Then they retire and get the shit from the streets. Everything I read says it’s 1000 times more powerful than other opioids. My buddy who works for me, his brother has o.d’d many many times and brought back by narcan. It’s only a matter of time. The only difference between him and Jimmy is that people know that he’s an addict, and have narcan readily available around him. Jimmy didn’t have that luxury as he hid his problem. Really sucks for his wife o find out that way!!!
