With the games not being at very good times for the west. I think it’s best to skip the Olympics in China. Plus there’s a a few political prisoners there that as a Canadian, I don’t feel safe having any more Canadians there. I think it would have been better to avoid this all together, the owners wanted nothing to do with it, but the NHLPA wanted it!!!

Surely, the viewing times will not be pleasant for North America, neither Europe. But from players we have perspective, they surely want to attend and represent their countries. These are the best tournaments. What concerns human rights, this IMHO should have been considered when selecting the host country, not when it comes to players participation.

I can see where you’re coming from. However the IIOC picked Beijing well before the Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig were ever detained for absolutely nothing. It stems from Canada’s arrest of Meng Wanzhou. On behalf of the Trump administration, Canada arrested her for breaking the sanctions on Iran. Now China has clearly retaliated. I don’t feel comfortable sending more Canadians over there with the tensions between the two countries at an all time high. I’m in no way choosing a side. As Meng Wanzhou was arrested under weird conditions. I just want to see our men and woman to be safe. Sorry to make this political. I won’t say anymore on this!!!

I won’t say anymore on this!!! i suppose i can see where you're coming from as well. i did a half assed search as to how many canadians live in china. 15 months ago the number was about 13,000. i would hazard a guess that even with all this friction between the countries, the number would be similar today. i just can't see the chinese government detaining any canadian athlete in any sport at their own olympics for the purpose of retaliation of an arrest that was nearly 3 years ago. and to add, i'd say that china's political tensions with australia and the u.s. (to name just a couple) are a lot higher than they are with canada. jmho.

The 3 Americans and Kubalik will make it, sounds like MAF will backup Price, Kurashev should make it, but that's probably it for the Hawks. Toews and Dach would need great starts to be considered but with the forward depth for Canada, it's unlikely.

I wondered if the abuse charges would follow SB over to China but since they're already out of the news,I guess not.

But I fear that they’ll help tow the company line and set him up with questions from the ladies tees. The media is a bunch of pussies that have no back bone. Afraid the Hawks will banish them from further media access!!!

in predicting the U.S. men's olympic team, there's no love for d-cat from the experts at sports illustrated. Matthew Tkachuk - Auston Matthews - Patrick Kane Johnny Gaudreau - Jack Eichel - T.J. Oshie James van Riemsdyk - Paul Stastny - Cam Atkinson Brady Tkachuk - Joe Pavelski - Alex Tuch J.T. Miller, Kyle Connor last season he led all american left wingers in points/game, even strength goals, TOI/game, GWG (tied with one player). 2nd in PP points, 3rd in PP goals, 3rd in shooting/%, 3rd in takeaways, 2nd in OT goals, yada yada yada. his :26 TOI shorthanded/game is 18th in the league among listed american left wingers but on the team above it's ranked 1st. next among LWs on the above team is kyle connor's :07 seconds/game. it'd be easy to find more more numbers that flatter d-cat. as has been said, this last season was his "coming out" season. he's only just rounding into form imho. as a blackhawk's fan, i'd be pissed off if they left off d-cat. as a team canada fan, i'd be delighted if they left off d-cat. i'd still bet a heap of $$ that he's on the U.S. team, no matter who the g.m. is. www.si.com/hockey/news/2022-olympic-hockey-roster-prediction-team-usa

No way would I have Gaudreau or van Riemsdyk ahead of the Cat. Put him in there on a line with Kane.

I've been a big fan all along but even I didn't expect to see a player improve his all-around game to the extent he did while still scoring at a 50 goal pace. I guess 'comin out party' is correct sine he improved so much from the year before but how much can a kid come out after potting 69 in his first two seasons without missing a game? I don't see how he's possibly kept off with SB in charge.....right?

That team kinda sucks to be honest. Atkinson, Goudreau, Pavelski, Stastny, not really gonna help much at this stage of their career. JVR seems like he’s in it for the money. If that’s the team they’re going with. OUCH!!!

I've seen him on a few lists, I'm surprised SI even bothered with listing players they don't cover the nhl ever much
