Losing so many of the greats of the 60's and 70's of late. RIP to another one in Guy Lafleur.

The "Flower" and "Le Démon Blond" possessed the speed, skill, and scoring and did it distinctively stylish as he was remarkably talented, no question. I will remember his as a teenager cutting and dashing down the ice with his long blond hair and looked at times effortless.

RIP
i hated the canadiens with a passion but oddly enough i don't remember hating the players all that much. lafleur would be a hard player to hate because he was so fun to watch.

Still haunted by the 1971 game seven loss. safe to say that for many of us that's one sting that won't quite go away. for me the memory is a bit vague but the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach is still close by.

this is likely as much a testament to a savvy g.m. than it is to lafleur but i thought it was quite interesting.
who to pick...lafleur or dionne? gotta' be lafleur. any kid that can grow world class mutton chops like that in junior has gotta' grow up to be something special.

Great tribute the other night by Montreal honoring Lafleur. The ovation lasted more than nine minutes with the PA announcer attempted to move the ceremony along after about 7 minutes with the crowd singing "Ole" Ole" Ole" before asking for a moment of silence that was greeted by a cheer that diminished but never yielded absolute quiet. Then chants of Guy, Guy, Guy followed. Obviously, a beloved player and man. Also, interesting reading on how then GM Sam Pollack for Habs basically "stole" Lafluer from California Golden Seals. Remember the Canadiens won the cup over our Hawks in 1971 (OUCH) and drafted Lafleur first overall (unfair). Also, interesting that Lafleur was not the consensus overall #1 pick, another Frenchman Marcel Dionne was in the conversation, but Pollack wanted him. It turns out Dionee finished with more goals and total points, but never won a Stanely Cup, LaFleur won 5. www.habseyesontheprize.com/2013/5/29/4375164/sam-pollock-a-beautiful-mind-part-ii-how-the-habs-got-guy-lafleur
