I didn’t know where to put this. So I’m putting it here. It’s a sad sad story with a great triumph to happen. Almost 6 years ago. An old buddy who was our hockey coach named Rob Morneau passed away in an industrial accident. He was 44 when he passed away in 2016. Greatest guy you’ll ever meet. He had two young sons 11 and 9. The worst part is Robs wife Tricia passed away a year later of breast cancer. The boys were left without parents. Rob’s brother took them in and has done a wonderful job. After that happened. The boys went to a Leafs/Wings game in Detroit with their uncle and cousins. They stopped at the Coney Island after the game. Babcock and DJ Smith we’re there. DJ knew Rob well. When the boys asked for a Photo with the coaches, they asked their names. DJ knew who they were and they made plans for the boys to to come to Toronto and stay in a hotel and see a weekends worth of games. And be in a luxury suite all expense paid. These are the things no one really sees. But it meant the world to them. Tonight, I was at the Spits pre season game. Noah Morneau was draft by the Spitfires as a gesture of good will towards the Windsor native in the 15th round. But tonight, he played for the Spits and scored a goal. Very touching moment for the kid. Couldn’t be happier for him. He’s literally beat all the odds to get there. It seems he’s gonna make the Spitfires too. Here’s a link to the story of what happened. Rob coached us in hockey and he also coached baseball for years. He was a community leader and just a solid guy. Happy to see his boy make it!!! windsorstar.com/news/local-news/families-seeking-a-new-normal-after-tragic-year/wcm/550b9b87-0c92-4184-891e-2d5dc143e1c3/amp/Edit: He also played on a line with DJ Smiths kid too. It’s all coming full circle!!!

Still a sad story, considering what the boys and whole family had to go through. Hopefully they'll have a better destiny and future in front of them.

If this kid in fact does make the team. I’m pretty sure he’ll get a massive standing ovation when they announce the opening night roster. We love home grown kids here, and he’ll be especially loved knowing what he went through!!!
