In last night's game against the Yotes, the dominance of the Yotes in puck battles and possession was obvious to even any casual observer of the game of hockey. They beat the Hawks to the puck; stopped the Hawks from getting out of their own end; kept the puck in the Hawks' end and outshot the Hawks almost 2 to 1. Even Eddie O said that the Hawks better figure out how to get the puck out of their own end and spend some time in the Yote end of the ice, because every time they tried they were met by "another wave of forecheckers". To me, it appeared that the Yotes had 8 men on the ice as they were often first to the puck; stopped Hawk efforts to either skate the puck out of the Chicago end or pass it out; and kept the puck in the Hawk end. The Yotes seemed like the faster team.
This was not the first time I noticed this type of discrepancy. To me, it seems to be case more often than not. I almost never see this type of dominance from the Hawks, even when they are playing a losing team like Jersey. So, I wonder what are your thoughts on why this happens so often. Are the Hawks generally just a slow team? Are they a bunch of bad passers? Is it a system problem? If it is a system problem, what is wrong with their system? Go for it.

Quickness. Simple answer. Our team has no team speed or quickness. We face a team with those attributes we are dead in the water. We have no answer to that. Imagine this team on the larger ice surface of Europe. That makes me shudder.

I just mentioned this in another thread, but I can count on 2 hands the games in which the Hawks have been the better team. They are usually dominated as you described. The only reason to this point in the season they aren’t even lower in the standings is the goaltending. How can a team not be in the playoff hunt with the goaltending this team is getting is very odd. Reality is, they probably aren’t much better or different than last year. We have one great offensive line. Another line lacking at least 1 top 6 forward. And a 3rd and 4th line that are average at best. Sound familiar? The D on paper is slightly better. The main difference, and again the reason they probably aren’t even lower in the standings, is Lehner. Other than him, a lot of different faces but similar results to last season. Whether that is the coaches fault or the GM’s fault is up for debate I guess. But it has to be somebody’s fault. With the coaching change and all the player turnover, the team can’t continue to be mediocre year after year without there being a reason for it.

And unfortunately, hockey is like football; you can't coach speed.

Can you name couple speedy players that they should bring in a summer who would make that team a contender? To minimize an argument I'm not trying to protect Stan. I'm not happy myself with how things are going so far.

should have went after Joonas Donskoi last free agency, bleh

You have to couple lack of quickness with a system that doesn't account for the lack of it. For instance, if a slow D-man activates, some quicker FWD has to be able to fall back. and cover. We haven't seen that too much recently--and I think Kane, of all people, was the last guy I saw doing it.
We also have the system problem of not realizing that no one skates faster than the puck, so our guys being welded into position, especially on the powerplay, doesn't help Some of our quicker guys on the attacks aren't really moving and finding the soft areas, and couple that with passing that couldn't hit the broadside of Mike, Molly, or Mike and Molly.
Our speed may be putting us at a hell of a disadvantage, but the system we're running makes exploiting it easy as hell.

I see a piss poor roster once again and absolutely no chemistry. Coaching has been abysmal and inconsistent is an understatement. The team lacks drive, there’s just no urgency or purpose to the play. This team is what it is, just a lower tier team that’s hoping the lottery balls fall into our laps.
I still feel it’s best to cut the management and coaching staff loose, let this season and next die, rebuild this thing properly, it’s just not gonna work “on the fly”. We need to create a great competition amongst young kids. And no more of this Nylander and Sikura trash, they are entitled players cuz management set them up that way. The team literally looks disinterested when certain guys are slotted in just due to the GMs stupid move. The whole team is a mess from the top down, until we see better management, we won’t see a better on ice product. So there’s no point in trying to figure out what is actually happening on the ice, it’s always something similar yet different. We have the best tending in the game, yet it’s not enough. The org is rotting from the inside out!!!

I was at the Knights game last night, on the glass in the corner where the Hawks shot twice. And I gotta say, the facial expressions of the players throughout the game was disappointing. Toews still seems into it, so did Seabs. Kane looks like he has completely checked out. Many of the younger guys look like they have a stunned look on their face. As if they just don’t know what to do. Boqvist was being scolded all night by other players and Crawford at one point for defensive lapses in his own end. Saad looks frustrated after every whistle. Just not a good energy amongst the team.
It was pretty ugly.

I hate hearing it though but it does show in their play.

That's why he needs a real stay home defense partner to cover for him. Kane as you said looked checked out as well as his line too. JT and line was really the only guys working and at times Dach was too. If that game didn't show to management the uselessness of nylander and sikura I don't know what will.

The look on Nylander’s face most of the time was that of a deer caught in the headlights. Panic and indecision.

The worst part many fail to see is that this roster is filled with guys like Nylander, Sikura, Kampf, and a few others. We just can’t have that much AHL fill on an NHL roster. Plus add in a few rookies and it’s a skating disaster. Why has no one up above questioned this? I mean it seems Stan literally just does stupid thing after stupid after stupid after stupid and they seem to love him more. I’m very perplexed at how a billionaire owner would tolerate this year after year. Stan has pulled the out al the stops and it just isn’t moving. I doubt they do anything to him before Xmas. And rightfully so, but is it worth it to let it slip away again, this time further!!!

Meanwhile, back on the ranch, Henri Jokiharju has 3 goals and 6 assists and +5 rating. Maybe it's just hindsight.

When that trade was made, a lot of pundits and fans alike thought it was a bad trade by the Hawks. The only thing hindsight proves is that it didn’t just suck on paper at the time it was made, it sucks in reality as well as time has gone by.

Everything that can be said about his mediocracy as a GM has been said. Time to start pointing the finger directly at Rocky for enabling this fiasco to continue year after year. One bad move after another after another with no end in sight.
