Wow, hats down to Kraken. Surely, the series is not over, but I've never would have thought they would win 3 and have Avs on the brink of elimination. idk if their coach dave hakstol will win the jack adams, but he'll be right up there in the voting i reckon. only 4 years as an nhl coach and a rather average record of 131-104-42 record when he signed on with the kraken a couple years ago. i remember at the time being rather unimpressed with seattle's pick to coach their team. a 40 point improvement from year 1 to year 2 is nothing to sneeze at. i guess he was the right man for the job after all. according to his wiki page he was "the first head coach to go directly from the NCAA to the NHL since 1982 (Bob Johnson from the University of Wisconsin to the Calgary Flames)." He will get votes for sure, but Montgomery most likely favorite. I believe he was Toews coach at North Dakota.

Nichuskin is away from the Avs now for personal reasons. didn't seem to hurt them this evening but it will surely make their task more difficult going forward if he is gone for a while... A woman was found so intoxicated in Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin’s hotel room Saturday that a team doctor called for an ambulance to take her to a hospital, according to a Seattle Police Department report obtained Thursday by The Denver Post.
Nichushkin did not play that night in Game 3 of the Avalanche’s first-round playoff series against the Kraken — and hasn’t appeared with the team since then. When contacted by The Post late Thursday afternoon, a team spokesman declined to comment on whether or not Nichuskin’s absence is connected to the incident but did confirm he is currently not with the team. www.denverpost.com/2023/04/27/valeri-nichushkin-seattle-incident-police-medical-response/

By the end of the night Sunday, you could see this year's record setting President Trophy winner and last years Stanley Cup champions eliminated.

This game looks like a mirror image to the Panthers/Boston series.
Don't think anyone expected either the Panthers or Kraken to get to a game 7. And just like the Panthers game, the Kraken take a 2 - 0 lead in the 2nd, but a power play goal sends the game to the 3rd at 2 to 1.
Can the Kraken hold on?

This was not anywhere near the upset the Panthers pulled off, but it is great for Seattle. The Avs were not the same team as last year with their captain (Landeskog) missing the whole season and Nichushkin missing the last few games. I imagine he will be volunteering for service in Ukraine with the Russian army rather than going home to face his wife.

Florida's HIGH PAID core has been together for years, they added one of the best/most expensive players in the game, they were all healthy and they won the President's trophy last year. Seattle's been a team of mostly rejects for two years, they added a few reactively cheap players as FA's and made a few nice trades like 28yro Bjorkstrand for a 3rd and a 4th but they're missing their 40gl scorer and..........they won 27 games last year. I'd say the Kraken's series win is more impressive, the Cats were OVERDUE for a big series win IMO.

That has a lot of validity. I was focusing on the quality of the teams beaten by the Cats and Kraks. To me, the Avs were a weaker team than the Bruins; and so more susceptible to the upset. But, your point that the Cats were already a powerhouse that finally got the last brick in place is a good one, so you might be right.

We'll have to see how the Cats and Kraks fare in this next round. I wouldn't have a clue as to which has the better chance of prevailing. But, using your points, perhaps the Cats.

Lack of depth and losing bid bodies like Landeskog and Nunichushkin I believe hurt them. Remember last year they had Landeskog, Kadri and Burakovsky (who is injured and would have helped the Kracken). Maker also was not dominate as he was during last years' run to the cup.

All I hear is how Boston choked,Fla's win was a massive upset and excuses for the Avs.
The Bruins fell to the President's Trophy curse and their best players underperformed but they went most of that series w/o their two top centers. The Panthers fell to the same curse last year but they added a 9 1/2M player to that President's Trophy team to go along with two other 10M players and they were OVERDUE to win a big series. Most of their core has also been together for years.......going to the postseason the last three as a unit. The Avs were missing a few guys but the defending Cup champs lost to a team that won 27 games last year and didn't even exist the F'n year before w/o their 40+ goal scorer. The Kraken's highest paid player makes 5.9M dollars!
I have to consider Seattle's win a bigger upset myself unless the Avs and Bednar just returned to their usual poor PO effort that dogged em for years before they finally won one.
A western conference finals of two expansion teams would be quite the deal........while we wait.....and wait....and wait for 'organic growth'.
