So much for my sleeper. Not that Grieg really had a Chance, but when he returns from injury in a few weeks.......he'll be suckin' 'hind-tit'! It was only 12 days ago but I think it's safe to say the kid's getting his legs under him. I don't think any of us expected much of a problem adjusting to the NHL for a young player so devoted to the game but he's still figuring things-out to some extent and will for a while yet. There was little doubt his 'shot' would translate immidiately and I've been careful to jump to conclusions but after what I've seen recently.......I have to say no doubt! Goaltenders look helpless! World-class defenders at times too! We did expect high-lite reels and no,high-lite reels alone won't get us there but I've been watching hockey a long time and to be honest,my jaw hasn't hit the floor in a long time.........it did twice yesterday! Effortlessly take the puck from the D-man and put a laser in an opening the size of a F'ing iPhone.........without looking.....what? His 2nd goal was what I meant by a good GT looking helpless and he saw it all the way.....didn't matter! It looks like his linemates are figured-out for now,Foligno's a tough vet who's having a resurgence and Kurashev might have found another level but Bedards's impact on his linemates will always 'up' their game. Put this young talent with an elite goal-scorer who can pass a bit too and a big, young, rugged winger on the other side who can do the heavy work and score some too and LOOK OUT! My only concern with Connor Bedard is,he has the ability to embarrass teams and teams don't like to be embarrassed, that Panther's game coulda gotten shitty if the Hawks were up by a few. Great Bedard summary! I too was simply amazed yesterday by his quick and accurate shot even though I know that is supposed to be one of his primary skills. He did kind of taunt the crowd a bit and not sure what to make of that. Part of it I like because we have had so little to crow about for a couple of years now but you’re right - it could get old for some teams and they may want to “shut his yap” so to speak. Well - it will make for entertaining hockey games ahead! What I appreciated even more was Foligno taking exception to the hit by Kulikov. Typical Foligno he said anybody would have done the same thing, great leadership on his part. The $4M Davidson spent on Foligno was well worth it and paying huge dividends already.

Another sign of a great scorer is one that attacks the zone be it offensive or the neutral zone. The last few goals we have seen Bedard attack, whether it was out leveraging Hedman of stripping Kucherov in the Tampa game. Both plays he created, not just waiting in space for someone to pass him the puck. We know he will score his share of goals with his lethal/elite shot, but his mindset now of attacking will only see even more goals, and just wait until we can get some talent and build a power play similar to what they have with New Jersey when Jack Hughes was there before he was hurt and prior years with Edmonton.

Well - it will make for entertaining hockey games ahead! I wasn't thinking of the 'celly' to be honest, just his ability to embarrass opponents with skill. I'm not sure I'd encourage a 'taunt' against a team with a few well-known culprits, but I don't think I'd discourage it either. He knows who he is and what he's doing IMO.

Guess I don’t mind if it’s his skill. Competitive opponents won’t be happy about it but there would be some professional respect for his ability I would think. Looks like he will show no mercy though- for better or worse. And he’s 18!!!

Ran across this vid today and it pretty much mirrors what we both said..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4_uB3HnXG4His ability to create chances for himself,(as you mentioned) combined with the 'shot' should result in 30-40 goals with adequate linemates and I think that's a fair assessment of his. Play him with a top notch set-up man,and that's when the goal scoring fun really begins. We'll notice the many sweet little dishes and subtle chips even in that short video that go for naught,a verified goal scorer on his wing and a better PP will result in as many helpers as goals at that point.

Thanks for sharing. Recommended viewing, pretty detail analysis with actual game footage on how good this kid is already and how much better he will be. Excellent examples of what average players would do and what great players do. Definitely worth about 7 minutes of your time.

I believe they showed a graphic during the Sabres game that indicated Bedard leads the rookies in scoring so far.

still a one horse race i believe unless bedard misses action, but this is fantilli's 6th goal in december while CB has 5 this month in the same amount of games. fantilli now at 10g, 12a in 37 games.
sweet goal. made kampf look like he was wearing street shoes.

Bedard and Fantilli don’t need much of an opening with their lethal whip shots.

Fantilli scored again tonight. Not taking anything away from Leo. But I believe that Fantilli will be a much better player. Much better. I think they messed up on that pick big time!!!

This will have to be revisited in a couple of years. Both players are scoring at a similar pace but Carlsson is on a much lower scoring team and now is out for a month or more with a knee injury. Either way, the players from this draft are so far living up to all the hype.
