I knew I wouldn't have to wait very long for another page in my book condemning the nhl and law enforcement authorities in the cites where the games take place. Take a look at this one and watch the whole thing before you start criticizing my thoughts on the violence that is condoned in this fucked up league: www.nhl.com/video/topic/player-safety/wilson-suspended-six-games-6349501300112I will the first to admit that it is not the worst transgression I have ever seen, but even though it is a one-handed swing, it is still the use of a deadly weapon to another player's face done by a guy who has been suspended five times before for similar violent acts. This time he gets a six game suspension, which ain't shit when it comes to sending a message to these assholes to stop the violence. Fuck Wilson, the league and the law enforcement authorities that fail to enforce the laws in the arenas where these criminal acts take place.

I like Wilson. But he’s lucky to get 6. That was as blatant as blatant can get!!!

I’ve said many times I’m 100% against using the stick as a weapon. I think 10 games would have sufficed. I agree here that it’s not ok to do that shit!!!

So, what's your theory as to why the nhl refuses to seriously punish such use; and, frankly, indirectly condones and encourages it by failing to sufficiently punish it ?

I’ll just say that the league feels that it was severe. We can debate differently on this. And I think we’d be on a similar page. To me, I’m think 10 games or 1/8 of a season would be good. If he does this again. It’s 20. And let him know in his meeting that it will progress massively. There’s absolutely nothing “tough” about what he did. It wasn’t a hit gone bad, it was a blatant use of a stick as a weapon. He realized it right away and was hugging the guy to say he was sorry. At least he showed remorse….. I guess. I even think cross checking should be a suspension. I know many people who played D will disagree. Mainly because most are lazy and don’t wanna box out a guy. It’s easier to just cross check. I would like to see that cracked down. They said they would, but so far it’s been meh. In the end, they do need to be harder on these gawd dam reoffenders. I like Willy, he’s seems like a great guy. Just crosses the line a little too much!!!

I'd agree if he hadn't been suspended so many times already. maybe had they punished him appropriately previously he wouldn't continue to do this dumb shit. they should've made him sit the rest of the regular season, imo.

I do agree at some point the league has to realistically do something. I don’t wanna see the venom taken out of the viper. But he’ll continue to do these things if they let him.
Now a millionaire gets to go on vacation for a week. Not sure it’s gonna curtail his antics. After this much, if they gave him 10+ games. He’d have to chill out, or the next suspension would be 1/4 season!!!

Now you boys are talkin' some sense. Good points!!! One could have said the same thing about Chara all the years he would cross-check everyone in the head And use the excuse "I'm so tall I had to".

I like Wilson. But he’s lucky to get 6. That was as blatant as blatant can get!!! I was trying to figure out what the actual intent was there. Not that it justifies the act, but his only defense would be that he was going for the arm/shoulder and didn't mean to hit him in the face, which I can sort of buy. See Duncan Keith on Jeff Carter, 2013 -- as far as intent goes, I'd say it's similar. So maybe that's why the league went with 6. I wouldn't have cared if it was longer, just trying to figure out their rationale. Either way, it was an overzealous love-tap gone wrong and he deserved a suspension.

Since the NHL sees fit to "forgive" a player if he hasn't been in trouble for a year or two.

Here's a little twist to my punish the violence campaign. Dino Ciccarelli was prosecuted on a criminal charge for use of his stick. Guess who he hit with his stick. Yeah, you are right it was none other than Luke Richardson. Yeah, that LR.
"The assault charge was brought after a Jan. 6 incident in which Ciccarelli hit Luke Richardson of the Toronto Maple Leafs on the head twice with his stick and punched him in the mouth.Aug 25, 1988"
I wonder what LR thinks about the use of sticks in the nhl to inflict injury.

DC managed to use both ends of his stick on LR's head in his second use of the stick on the head. DC was an expert with the use of the stick, I guess. I read that he got a one day jail sentence in his prosecution. I guess the criminal authorities were as "understanding" of the need to use a stick to impose one's will as are the nhl authorities. It is no wonder that violence is rampant in so many parts of the world and so many aspects of so-called society.

It's been that way since man has competed on the field of battle OR sport and still is. Rome didn't pack the Coliseum with beauty and skill, they did so with blood and gore and the popularity of today's human dog-fighting,otherwise known as UFC and MMA is pure brutality. The 'Emperors' still know that the masses want their 'red meat'.
