Good choice naming Foligno the captain, he can hand it to Bedard when Nick hangs them up.
I love the vid when KD tells the players then Nicks kids brought his jersey out. Then at the end of his speech he said "let's get to work", that should be the new motto.

The only choice imho. 35th in franchise history. well earned by Foligno, keeps 98 from the added stress of being a captain for a couple more years (now he can get the C and a shiny new 8 year deal at the same time), and it leaves Tazer as the youngest captain in franchise history. seems like the smart move to me.

Congrats to Ferrigno! Well deserved.
Although I have to wonder how Jones is taking the news...

Congrats to Ferrigno! Well deserved. Although I have to wonder how Jones is taking the news... he still will have a letter on. if he has even the slightest issue with it, other than a tinge of disappointment in himself that he wasn't able to earn the honor, then he should be jettisoned at the earliest opportunity. no room at the inn for malcontents any longer. I'm sure he is fine with it, though.

It'll just be interesting how he handles it because I got this feeling that Bowman the Beancounter all but promised him that he would be the new leader of the 'hawks before the Beach incident. I'm hoping he has the tact and grace that Seabrook did--who by all rights should have had a letter well before he got the A and played like he had one even though he didn't. If he is a malcontent, I'm hoping Bowman will take him on in Edmonton...I think that's the only GM who would take him on at this point.

nick was the blue jackets captain for 6 years and it shows. about seth jones wanting to be captain. i'm sure he was asked the question about the captaincy, and he gave an honest answer. www.nhl.com/news/seth-jones-wants-to-be-next-chicago-blackhawks-captain#:~:text=%E2%80%9CI%27ve%20always%20wanted%20toto be honest, if he had been asked about the captaincy and said he wouldn't want the job, i'd think less of him than i would when he says he'd want the job. i'm sure seth is disappointed. i'd hope he would be, actually. and i'd be surprised if it affects his play on the ice or mood off the ice that he's "stuck" wearing the "A" for another season. jmo, but i think seth gets shit here he doesn't deserve for giving an honest answer in an interview.

Congrats to Nick!!! At the end of the 21 season went to hawks game in Columbus because I did not know if they would be letting us in at the UC. While at the game had a great talk with some STH and ask about moving on from Nick that basically said it was time to move on just too much money for a guy who does not produce much. Then they all had a story about the man. Greatest leader they have ever seen team first all the way took all the criticism and passed the praise. Not a better man in the Columbus as far as giving back I am not just talking praise it was over the top praise!! A great move by KD to get him here I believe he will make us all proud that he is wearing the C. Also glad to see the boards are getting in mid season form as far as #4.. Cue Devo or my favorite the rolling Stones pick your favorite whip song!

In typical Nick fashion and again just speaks to who he is as a leader he acknowledges the leadership before him. Great choice.

My criticism for Jones has been for on-ice things, not off-ice things. He was on about the team being musical chairs and like you, I think he's just human if he has disappointment--especially if the actually was promised being the successor to Toews by Bowman the Beancounter. I don't have any issue with his answers in interviews; I think sometimes player/coaches do have to say the not-socially correct things to the media to get the point out there-like Jones and the musical chairs, like Quenneville and the officiating in the 2012 AZ series being a disgrace when Hossa was targeted, and Toews in 2008 saying the team didn't hate to lose enough. What I hope we don't see is a negative change on the ice. If we do then that something we have to nip in the bud.

I like it. Foligno is vocal, respected, and drops the gloves. He may be a transitional captain, but even so, he's a fine choice.
Seth -- I'm not in the room of course, but I'm sorry, he just doesn't seem like a captain to me. Way too soft-spoken, not enough fire. He should feel lucky they made him an alternate.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm not a fan of teams giving letters to players simply because they're their most skilled. You should have other intangibles that a captain needs. As far as Bedard goes, it's too early to tell, but there is a chance he might not ever be captain material -- or even alternate material -- and that's fine. There are a lot of fantastic players on a lot of teams that don't wear a letter.

There are a lot of fantastic players on a lot of teams that don't wear a letter. Not just that, but I also don't think that the most tenured players should automatically get a letter, either. The letters should be reserved for those that step into the leadership role, and in my opinion, real leaders will do so letter or no letter--see also: Brent Seabrook, Detroit series, 2013.

I'm not accusing you of doing this, this is just a general statement: I wouldn't read too much into Toews not responding right away. I assume Foligno reached out to him directly and not via an agent, etc.; if so, I'm sure the dude's phone blows up constantly with a million different numbers. Plus Tazer's busy living his best life right now with things like Burning Man, lol.

I have to think that the way Foligno is talking, he’s got plans to be with the org in 2 years time. I just can’t see him walking away from this team and never turning back. I’d have to think he’ll be in management for a bit, mainly because he was the leader of that team and knows better than anyone what they need. And I don’t think you can find a better guy that him. He’s next level!!!
