OK, it appears I, the former South Sider, have to start the first White Sox thread on these boards.
Brilliant signing in getting Yasmani Grandahl, both from an offensive and defensive perspective. Good on Rick Hahn.
Now, he needs to sign a Top Rate Starter such as Wheeler and a lefthanded Right Fielder who can play defense and this team is an instant contender and it should only get better.

Hot stove rumors have the Sox as the highest bidder for Wheeler's services...I'd like to see them go after another legit starter after wheeler, in case Rodon and Kopech come out slow. He can always be a long relief/ 6th starter... nice resigning of McCann, too.

Of course, cheapskate Reisndorf gets outbid and now we'll have to settle for some second rate never was and the Sox will once again say, "Aw gee, we tried!"
The Bulls, Bears, and White Sox have horrific ownership.

I'm trying to figure something out. The Sox recently signed catcher Yasmani Grandal to a 4 yr. $73M deal. And have signed McCann to a 1 yr. deal.
Three years ago they drafted catcher Zach Collins 10th overall and he did come up and get some playing time with the Sox last season. I don't know if this year might be a little soon but I would think Collins is to the point where he should start knocking on the door of the major leagues and maybe start seeing more time in the majors.
What I'm wondering is what the signing of Grandal might mean for Collins future. I know Collins wasn't going to be the starting catcher next season but I wonder if plans for him will change any, if at all, with Grandal now on board.

Jim regrets the error. Jerry still sucks as an owner. So do the McCaskeys.

I was pissed since Bill V. was going to sell the team to DeBartalo, but Steinbrenner had the deal nixed by MLB stating that DeBartolo was possible mob ties to his horse racing empire. Note how Stienbrenner failed to mention his horse racing ties in New Jersey. Steinbrenner was just afraid DeBartolo was going to out bid him on players since he had more money than Steinbrenner.

I remember that ... totally fact.. an I didn’t have to read the article. And that’s what DeBartolo did with the 49’s, he built a championship team and he would of done the same with the White Sox..

There's something abrewin' on the South Side... They are a fun team to watch, not championship caliber but still fun. I'm not sure they aren't championship caliber. Their lineup is solid beyond 1 thru 9, they have 2 top tier catchers, Keuchel and Giolito is as good a 1/2 top of rotation guys there is, Cease looks impressive as well, and bullpen seems to be pretty solid. A few injuries that when they come back the bullpen just gets stronger. But I have to ask what kind of parents name their son Aaron when his last name is Bummer (man, that's A Bummer lol).
It reminds me of when I worked at this one job and all of our email addresses were our first initial and last name. That is, except for 1 girl. Her last name was Exline. Sounds innocent enough, until you use her first initial.....then it became quite clear why her email address was her full first name, otherwise her email address was SExline@.........Now that's either some perverted parents or more likely never even thought about the ramifications of email addresses.

I was actually surprised by their success this year, but not surprised at this week's choke against the Indians. At least there was improvement this year and they will be in the playoffs, but they will not win it all.

This is a classic example of a trade helping both clubs. I liked Eaton and what he brought to the Sox, and he was a part of Washington winning the World Series last season. But the Sox got at least a legit ace for the long term (barring injury) and 2 other starters. Even if the Sox don't win it all this year, I think they're not too far away. As a fan of both the Cubs and Sox, I think the future is far better for the south side then the north. Cubs have too many all or nothing hitters, while the Sox have guys like Anderson (last years batting champ and was in contention this year as well), Abreu (a consistant 30/100 guy), and a lineup that's young with speed and power. And a well rounded pitching staff as well. After just 4 seasons removed from World Champs, Cubs are on their way down, likely to lose a group of upcoming free agents including Bryant, Baez, Rizzo, Contreras, Schwarber. And their pitching is an aging starting staff that will likely lose Lester, Quintana, Chatwood and replaced with young kids who may be ready for the big show (Alzolay) or may not (Marquez). I think 2021 is the final hurrah for the Cubs before they falter to the lower echelon of the division, if not the league.

I don't see why the Cubs can't hang onto their most important FA's,God knows ownership has the money unless they're gonna use it on another hotel instead.

I don't see why the Cubs can't hang onto their most important FA's,God knows ownership has the money unless they're gonna use it on another hotel instead. My frustration with Ricketts is he kept saying in order to compete for the free agents and keeping his core players he was going to need scoreboards for advertising (he got it), the hotel across the street for more revenue (he got it), and their own TV network (he got it). Once he had all 3, he started talking about having to keep the salaries at or below the tax threshold the league has. So he's been talking about having to reduce salary and investigating trading away several of the players I've mentioned. I think that's why they signed Bote to a 5 year $15 million dollar contract to replace Bryant at 3rd, although there's really no comparison as to who is the better player. They have a highly regarded minor league catcher (Miguel Amaya) so thinking Contreras gets traded with Caratini taking over as #1 as they groom Amaya to take over. I think Schwarber is also debatable if they can get another quality outfielder in trades involving Schwarber, Contreras, and Bryant. I think they have to sign Rizzo as he's been the heart and soul of the team for so long, and Baez (or Lindor of Cleveland as both are FA in the same year and I think Lindor is a better hitter and bats from both sides). Now if they really go cheap, they'll move Nico Hoerner to SS which is a major step backwards.
Ricketts is beginning to make me think of the former owner of the Marlins, who twice won the WS then immediately did a roster purge. Cubs won the WS in 2016, then went on their mission of saying they don't have the money to address issues, especially in the bullpen. Now they are moving from the pitching to the position players. I would not be surprised to see many of the names I mentioned traded away in the off season.

When they failed to score in the first couple of innings with two guys on in one inning and bases loaded in the other, the game was over.
