I like to wait till I see em in the bigs to make a call nowadays but how in the world does any GM trade a 19yro,large framed, right shot D-man with big OHL numbers for Perlini? I wasn't Perlini's biggest critic and I didn't think he had any chance at all after signing cheap but Rigula has 27 F'n goals...…..in 56 games......in the OHL! It looks like it could be one of SB's few good trades lately but it actually looks more like a bad trade by Detroit. michigan born as well.it's a head scratcher. hell.... any 3rd rounder for perlini would most likely be seen as a good deal.i'm worried there might bodies buried in his back yard. : )You might be on to something. Alec Regula was born in West Bloomfield, MI. Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in Bloomfield, MI.

sucks to lose out on Shea, although I can't claim to know how big of a loss it is. with Mitchell, I've been saying for a while now that if he doesn't sign this off season, we should immediately be looking to trade him. can't lose a high second rounder like him for nothing. I heard that he wanted to sign after his season ended and play this year, seems like it's over so hopefully he's signed soon.

I think AA #2 is worth a try. I've read a little about him and the general opinion is he has great speed and is offensively skilled, although I don't know how he projects. If for no other reason than to see how they fit his name on the sweater.
well, they got langenbrunner's and vanbeisbrouck's names on sweaters and they've got the same amount of letters as altybarmakyan's would. but they're not as long as a guy who played for the bruins in the 1920's. his name was john brackenborough. but there's another guy who's played for the bruins last season with the 2 word last name of forsbacka karlsson which would blow them all out of the water. i'd be ducking autograph hounds like crazy if i had a name like that. and that ends today's useless trivia.

He also put up his best numbers as a 19 year old. Look what Byram did as a 17 year old. That’s much tougher. So I wouldn’t look too much into his numbers. Look at Darren Raddysh. He put up 85 points as a dman and many many many Hawks fans deemed him the next Seabrook or Hawks top D prospects. All it was, he was 19/20 when he put up those numbers. Like Regula, his foot speed is lacking, and unless they really develop, they’ll be AHL fill. He is young, and ya never know, but I wouldn’t crown him anything yet. We’ll see many many more come through just like that, put up numbers as an older player!!!

He was +23,+32 and +39 in his first three OHL seasons while increasing his offensive production big time.....just an observation. Maybe we will see more but right now,how many D prospect do we have that put up 27/60/+39 in the best feeder system @19?

For every kid that makes it, there’s 10 that don’t. It’s tough to make it. The Hawks have been piss poor at development too. We’ve had the odd kid (Dcat) come out of Jrs and surprise everyone. But for the most part, we don’t seem to have much coming through the pipeline. Many kids have great years in their 3rd or 4th years. But very few of them make the NHL. Like I’ve said, I’ve seen Regula many many times. He’s not the most fleet of foot, kind of against what Stan has been preaching too. So maybe he gets better and faster, we’ll see. I believe he can go to the farm next year. So we’ll get to follow him more closely. I love the Michigan kids. Right in my back yard, we play teams from over there all the time, little Caesars, Belle Tire, etc. It’s always fun. And I wouldn’t doubt in about 4 years time if my son ends up playing over there. Triple A in my area is meh. Not enough population around here to put forth a good team. We usually have 1 maybe 2 good lines and then we get destroyed. So kids take off to the Michigan for their AAA. So I have a soft spot for Michigan hockey. I think you’ll see many many more come out of there very soon!!!

I'm not countin' my chickens with this kid or ANY prospect to be honest T but I do see a nice improvement in Ragula's numbers every season so far his +/- went up as his scoring went up and he did have a nice 2nd and 3rd year in the OHL. I'll trust your assessment of his speed and if it doesn't improve,he'll struggle to make it. How'd he end up with 27 from the back-end......big slapper from the point? I'll agree that development hasn't been good.....trading Joker tells me that assessment is poor too!

Maybe his numbers are better last year if he wasn’t behind Boqvist and Bouchard? But his speed is middle of the pack in the OHL, which isn’t a good precursor to pro play. I seen JF Foudy on my Spits (which he’s super fast) go around Regula like he wasn’t even there. I found that to be embarrassing for Regula, didn’t even get a stick on him and it seemed Regula got his hair feathered by the breeze that went by him. Also, London had a great team again this year, he had a lot of wide open looks and used his shot to collect some of those 27 goals. He also got to walk in and snipe too, I seen McMichael, Merkley and Liam Foudy set him up for a deuce this year. It does help to have guys like that around. So we’ll see how he does in the farm. Remember, let’s not put too much emphasis on his first 20-30 games as there will be a massive adjustment period that usually takes half a year. So I could see him spending a couple years in the farm before he even gets a call up, if he was to get one. I agree fully on Joker, I still don’t get that one? I posted on here a while back that I had a chat with 3 Sabres scouts one game. At the end of the conversation I asked them what’s the deal with Nylander, they said if I watch him, you’ll find out quickly, don’t need to be a scout to notice he has not heart. So even if he has decent regular season numbers, which I doubt, he isn’t the type of player needed in the post season. He just doesn’t have it and probably ever will!!!

So they probably drafted him based on his skill. So who’s stupider? Buffalo for taking him, or Stan for trading Joker ( the top dman prospect in our system) for him? Sure Buffalo made a mistake, but they also corrected that!!!

I've only watched highlights and compilation videos of Regula and it's basically all in the offensive zone, no he doesn't have speed but he's agile and smart with a heavy one timer. 15 of his 27 goals this year were on the PP and he played LW there, so move him up like they did to Buff. Hawks have some good speed on the back end and if Regula doesn't improve his, he'll never crack the lineup playing D.
But Mitchell is the prospect I'm most curious about, he probably made Jokiharju expendable, even though it was a dumb trade, but Mitchell seems more mature and composed, that goes a long ways with teammates.

no argument there , one of the stupidest trades, but now that I think about it , no worse than TT and Daoust , face it stan has done a remarkable job, in trading away all our good draft picks for, band-aids that didn't work and stupid trades

I guess I just struggle to see how a D-man can pot 27 and still post a +39 at that level has such glaring skating issues,Boqvist potted 20 on the same team the year before and his +12 was unimpressive. Maybe they work with his skating a few years at Rockford but I do understand T's concerns because it's hard to teach speed. Are you saying Mitchell is more mature and composed than a 20yro who played em all for his NHL club this year? Jokiharu cracked a NHL roster and helped his country win a WC @19 and earned the trust of his new coach @20,that trade allowed Buffalo to move both Scandella and Bogosian. Joker also has 20lbs on Mitchell.....another small framed D-man to add to the others.

Joker also has 20lbs on Mitchell.....another small framed D-man to add to the others. I know this is a different position. Check out the stats of Darren Raddysh’s brother Taylor’s numbers. Especially in Jrs. 100 points was nothing. He had 18 and 19 goals in his first 2 years in the AHL. Which is respectable, but he was a total gunslinger in Jrs. The pro game exposes all your weakness, and leaves you for dead. Only the strong survive. Personally, I’d try to pry him out of Tampa and get him reunited with Dcat and Strome. I feel they could all be 20+ goal scorers. He just needs a shot with guys he’s comfortable with. I doubt he ever becomes a 100 point scorer, but the kid has something his brother and Regula doesn’t have..... speed. That’s who I’d target in a rebuilding phase. I’ve watched Mitchell since he was in Bantam and I always watch the “TELUS Cup”. I remember ever watching Josh Ho-Sang, then my Spits drafted him. Unfortunately he’s a head case, but seeing Mitchell as the best dman in Canada as a Bantam/Midget at the time and then the Hawks grab him was pretty cool. My only concern with the pro game is his size, and the Hawks lack there of. He can be a solid player, no doubt, but it’s gonna be a massive curve for him. Like Quinn Hughes and Makar, Mitchell should a taken this year to turn pro. The competition wasn’t good enough there for him to develop, and that’s my worry with staying in College too long. You kill your development curve. Where as the AHL would have taught him much much more. Just my two coppers. Lastly. We talked on here a couple years ago about this player. Serron Noel. He’s 6’6” 220. I seen him a few times this year. He got traded from Oshawa to Kitchener. So I had the luxury of seeing him early on with Oshawa, and again with Kitchener. This kid hit everything in site which created so many turnovers and many hurried passes. He’s another one I’d target. He was the best player on the ice every time I seen him. It’s not about scoring, but he had that “X” factor like Buff. Huge and he’ll use that frame to run you over and stand in front of the net. Uncle Dale owns his rights, so maybe he’d help us out? This is why I’d love Mark Hunter here, he knows about all these kids and will build a juggernaut in no time!!!

Jokiharju is a talented kid and plays a smart 2way game, I'm just saying he's known for getting down on himself and you could see it last season when he hit a crossbar and a couple posts and couldn't score his first then his body language changed, maybe because of the coaching change as well, but it hurt his game and he was sent down. Teammates can pick up on that and it hurts the team. Yes it's impressive that he made the NHL as a teenager under Q and he shouldn't have been traded but I think they made the trade because they thought they'd sign Mitchell last summer, but Ian was smart to play one more year in college as the captain. When I watch Jokiharju play live for Portland he made a couple bad plays and it carried over into other shifts, he still played solid but he looked off compared to how he could play. But yes, I think Mitchell is more composed and mature, too bad he wasn't heavier but he plays bigger than his size and he's a great team player.

If a 18-19yro kid gets down on himself or loses some confidence, isn't it the coaching staff's job to keep him focused and prepared? It seems like young players who struggle here lose the coach's confidence quickly. We saw different things with Joker and that's OK,maybe we looked for different things. Is it that uncommon for an 18yro playing in the CHL and NA for the first time to carry a bad play around for a few shifts......is it that uncommon in general for any teenager? I just didn't care for the character and bad attitude stories that broke about him and they seemed to see more distribution after Nolander was healthy scratched three games in. JC and SB didn't like something about the kid but Q the curmudgeon did,his WC Finn HC did and Ralph Krueger is one of the biggest ho nonsense HC's in the league and he relied on Joker more and more as the year went on. There's something I don't like about JC and SB too and that's young player assessment. If SB thought he'd sign Mitchell last summer,SB was wrong. If he goes unsigned again this summer, the odds are good we lose him. I respect your assessment of Mitchell and I don't have one myself because I've never seen him play but neither one of us knows how the small framed D-man handles the rigors of the NHL fore-check without the safety of the NCAA 'full cage' . As far as composure and maturity...….I'll go with the kid who played em all for a very demanding HC at the BIG LEAGUE level @20. I like the small player who plays big as much as you do,don't we have a few of em on LTIR or who were on right now? This is a list of all active D-men under 180lbs.... www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2020/caphit/all/defense&limits=weight-150-180There's a few decent names at the top of that list but there's a massive drop off afterward, only 12 dressed for more than 40 games......there are reasons for this. Thanks for the chatter and all the best to you and your loved ones!

^ I'm just trying to understand why they traded him, we both hate the trade but it's done. And of course teenagers get emotional and sometimes have trouble handling it and coaches need to help them but maybe the rumors are true and being hard on himself was a problem behind the scenes, we don't know but I'm going to believe it to ease the pain of that trade 😁
Buffalo has a solid team and had a great start but that didn't last and they were below. 500 when everything froze. Their coach didn't last long in the NHL and in Edmonton he gave kids a lot of minutes, so it doesn't surprise me he played Jokiharju considering he's a 1st round pick they got for another 1st rounder.
As for Mitchell, yeah he's 15lbs lighter than Jokiharju but he looked good vs some NHLers at the Spengler Cup and I was surprised to hear he was on the team. I watched every game and followed him closely, he looked like their best overall dman and scored a beautiful goal in the gold medal game. He's fast, smart, and strong for his size, I'm not worried about him in the NHL, especially if he's working out now and can get to 190lbs.
With guys like Gilbert, Vlasic, Regula, Moberg, etc there's a good mix of size to play with guys like Mitchell, Boqvist, and Beaudin. They drafted small fast dmen before last summer now they're trading and drafting bigger guys, nice there's a blend.
All the best to you and your loved ones as well Bob, hopefully things get back to 'normal' soon.

I’ve seen Regula play many times. He wasn’t very good in his first couple years. I pretty much agree with you in all respects T. What you didn't mention is that playing in London he has been in the shadow of the likes of Boqvist. One thing about Regula still comes to mind and that is his hockey sense. He plays well in nearly any scenario. So much so that a real coach like Dale Hunter filled a team need with him on the power play as a bumper, (winger) when Boqvist was still playing in London. Sure Regula is a bit slow but let's not make it sound worse than it really is. Unless he goes to work hard on his skating this summer though He will definitely be playing in Rockford. The biggest upside of this kid is everything other than his skating he reads plays, has decent hands, sees the ice really well. His single best attribute is definitely his size at 6'4" 207-210 lbs. He'll need some time in Rockford to get up to speed with the NHL. I have to agree with every scout that's evaluated him in that he will be a top 4 Dman at sometime. I always go back on players such as this with the old adage you can't teach size. I believe any box this kid has left to tick off can be taught and learn very quickly. My only knock therefore is his skating, and it's not like he falls over the ice or takes days to get back in his own end. The Darren Raddysh comparison is a bit unfair, but I will just leave it alone as there is no comparison.

re: regula.
we got him for perlini. about 10 (or maybe 11) games into this season where he had been a healthy scratch for the first 9 (or was it 10) games to start the season. the same perlini to continue the season in detroit and went 1g, 3a and -18 in 39 games.
between the 2 g.m.s.....bowman's definitely the lesser compared to yzerman.
i want to believe. it just seems too good to be true.
jeezuz...and i'm supposed to be the optimist here....

Guys don't get me wrong on Mitchell I only followed him a bit and was consuming my knowledge mostly here. I like what I've seen but is he really any better than Beaudin at this point? Stan could trade Beaudin in a heartbeat to Montreal. Yes because he's French Canadian but also because he has heart.
Beaudin is no less of a Dman than Mitchell in my opinion. Beaudin has also proven he'll work his ass off to get where he needs to be. He didn't have Campbell following him around all the season before coaching him. It was his own diligence and hard work that got him in to playing the end of this shortened season.
I love love this player and although his development was behind some he seems to have made up a great deal of ground on his defensive play as he needed to. Whether he turns out to be better than the others we will see. He is however at the top of young fast skilled Dmen on this team all around the same size if I might add. I think a full season for him with the big club could sway opinion. Perhaps mine the other way, I'll take heart over desire though.

Hey Galaxy. I believe I read last year that Yzerman was desperate and felt he had to make a trade for some offense. Stan would take nothing less than Regula. Yzerman feeling the squeeze made the trade. In the interview Yzerman mentioned it was the best deal he could make at the time to help his club. So is it to good to be true? Yes, but many GM's even the best make panic moves, and I believe this was one of those. Stan of course sees this as a win and he should.

Very good point, I like Beaudin but him and Mitchell are pretty similar in stature and abilities but I'd stick with the righty and trade Beaudin to Montreal. With Carlsson stepping up they can move another lefty in Beaudin and the Habs love their French players and coaches.

All the best to you and your loved ones as well Bob, hopefully things get back to 'normal' soon. I'm not lookin' to argue as much as I'm lookin' to discuss your well made points OTH...…..since I have the time!LOL! I understand the easing the pain approach but the pain remains for me due to the unforced,non-cap space related nature of that trade. If Joker was kept,we don't need both D acquisitions and Buffalo is three games behind Chicago in the standings for what little that matters. Joker's acquisition allowed Buffalo to move two high paid D-men but his loss required Chicago to acquire two......unnecessarily IMO. I'm going by the two team's web-sites here,Mitchell is listed @5'11" 168lbs and Joker @6' 195lbs....both are 20yrso. Can a young player who's pretty much done growing @20 pack on 15lbs without a negative effect on his speed and quickness? Can a small framed player survive w/o that speed and quickness? I don't continue to dwell on size because of my desire to see a team willing to protect one another(I've all but given up on that),I point to it more out of a concern for our Lil' Dude's health to be honest. Boqvist has already struggled with these issues,Cagullia has been concussed both seasons here and we know about Andrew Shaw and didn't Beaudin already get dinged up in the game or two he played and hasn't the larged framed Dach shaken off big hit after big hit? Maybe a team that's willing and able to protect it's small framed players can absorb a few,we're neither willing or able and we're looking to absorb a bunch......I feel for the Lil' Dudes,I really do! Gilbert either isn't ready or the HC doesn't like him,add those possibilities into the logjam at the position and I believe he's toast here @23. Vlasic and Regula could both easily be years away and Moberg is a long shot at this point but an interesting one. What I'd like to hear are ideas to clear our logjam at D so any of these young D-men get a chance to play, let alone stay healthy enough to.

Good posts fellas.
My worry now is this. If Strome is traded, and we get another prospect, which is probably the most logical for him. That means we ended up with 2 prospects for Schmaltz. Now, I don’t care for Schmaltz, I’ve made that clear, but he has more trade value than two lower pick prospects. That trade now is looking awful.
The reason why a GM has to have soooo much turnover is they’re failing. He’s constantly making pointless lateral moves to try and find a gem. He finds the odd ones, and pats himself on the back, but then blows the cap, and ends up having to trade the said gem.
We also have to realize that we have generational players on this team. Get anyone with talent to play with them, and they’ll look way better than they are. Great players make decent players look great. Stan hasn’t even found decent players for the most part. That’s why the team sucks.
Now, I’m not a Colliton fan, but not for the reasons many others aren’t. JC is a yes man. Nothing more nothing less. The roster is spread out and players aren’t playing with the guys they should be simply because Stan seriously believes that Carpenter could be great if he plays with Kane. His failures as a GM are far too numerous. He will set the club back a decade and a half if they keep him here. He never should have been put in the GM position. While many think he did a good job, I know he just scraped by due to the talent he inherited. How am I so sure? Look at the team now. He doesn’t have those luxuries, and he’s failing. His cap is out of control and we’re one of the worst teams in the league. He is possibly the worst GM of all time. I want him to leave the Hawks and get another gig. He’ll have that new team sunk so fast, it’ll prove he shouldn’t be in charge of an Atom minor team.
Add into the fact that our farm team has sank every year under this guy. Now it’s a train wreck. The whole organizational depth is at its worst, it’ll only get worse under him. He’s run out of other people’s players and ideas. Now it’s all on him. The only thing that can save him is lotto luck and he gets Lafrenière. But I’m sure he’d screw that up!!!

All of our young studs could be traded and for extremely ready players. Other than Regula every other Dman is moveable. Kubalik is the only forward I keep the rest of them that doesn't have NTC can go.
Now I'm not saying move all of them. If the right deal was there and in many cases the deal would be there to be had. You move them. I'd keep Regula he's the type of player to come back and bite you in the ass.
Kubalik I still like lots I called it before last season started. You don't trade rookie 30 goals scorers. You keep them hoping they haven't reached their peak, At 25 with a whirlpool season like he did handled it pretty good. He has to be in some way rewarded, and having the foresight to keep him.
