Zadina’s contract is going to be terminated, making him a free agent. No one wanted to pick him up from waivers because he was owed 4.5m for 2 more yrs. Now, he walks away from that and can have a fresh start

Hornquist retiring apparently. “ He spent 15 seasons in the NHL between Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Florida and is certainly one of the most successful late-round picks in recent memory as he was picked with the final selection in 2005, going 230th overall. Hornqvist hangs up his skates with the 14th-most games played from that draft class while sitting ninth in scoring with 543 points. His 264 goals are tied for the tenth-most by a Sweden-born player.” Pretty good career for a last pick of a draft

I love me some Hagel. Problem is, even if they have 30 million and 10 guys to sign. I’m sure they’ll fit Hagel in, but he’d be commanding 7 million by then. Maybe 8. So now they have 9 guys to sign and 22 million. It’s gets tougher and tougher. Plus Stamkos is due in one year. Hedman in two. So that cap space leaves fairly quickly with a team loaded with stars. Hopefully for them Stamkos and Hedman take less to stay!!! Well, it seems TB might be facing the 'hawks old problem soon: A lot of guys signed for the duration, a couple of core players looking for a new deal on the wrong side of 30 (who aren't really slowing down much, if at all), and an up-and comer (if not already there) looking for a payday who's arbitration-eligible. What's going to give if Hagel goes to arbitration and gets rewarded? It will be interesting, to say the least. TB also has the roster stability of having all of their best players wrapped-up,Stamkos is the only one over 30 and only has one more on his deal,if he re-signs,I'd bet it's short and for less. Kuch is 30 and signed for 4 more,Point's 27 and signed for 7 more,Cirelli's 25 and signed for 8 more,Sergachev's 25 and signed for 8 more,Cernak's 26 and signed for 8 more and Vasilevskiy has 5 left @28......none signed past the age of 34. Hedman's due in 2 years @33 and he'll have already made 86M by that point.....how much $$$ or term would he need? If they decide to keep him. Hagel's re-do isn't for another year(TB get's him for 1.5M again)when Seabs 6.875M LTIR $$$ is no longer a factor with the distinct possibility of annual 4M cap bumps coming.....they'll figure it out. I doubt he gets to next summer w/o an extension.

Wings get more space for Debrincat. Gotta think that’s going to happen. Also see Kane going to Buffalo. And just maybe Toews to Winnipeg.

I wonder if he would be acting the same way now if he were still in Chicago. would he want an extension or a trade?

pretty good coach. 10th all-time with 722 wins. 1363 games coached is 15th all-time. that's a lot of games but he only coached 4 teams. no cups, lost in finals twice though. 34 years coaching from his first head coaching gig in the "Q" at age 25 until his retirement.

I wonder if he would be acting the same way now if he were still in Chicago. would he want an extension or a trade? He has NOT asked to be traded and would have been happy to play in Ott this year, reports are he likes his HC and teammates there. His camp just wants him to take what will be his only chance to test the UFA market unless somebody makes a big offer beforehand. Sign now after a down year or next summer after a bounce-back season? Maybe Ott figured keeping him away from their other three best forwrads would keep his numbers and salary demands down........it did on the former but not the later. Rumors are,DeBrincat 25yrso,450gms,187gls,373pts is looking for the same 8.8MX8 that 26yro Meier 472gms,163gls,330pts just got. Meier's the bigger player and has played em all only once so far,DeBrincat is YET to miss a game to injury.

just going by the general "vibe" around twitter, i think ottawa got a better return than many thought. and detroit signing him for under 8 million for 4 years isn't bad either.

I assume the 2024 first round is protected, suprised they got a 1st based on what was being earlier reported. Looks like betting on one more big deal when he is 29-30 years old.

Really a good deal for both teams. I think a fair deal for D-cat too.

$10mm/yr is way too high for Nylander IMO. Not saying someone won’t cave and pay it but D-cat’s level is more like it.

I’m not sure Nylander is better than Dcat. I know we’ve never really seen Dcat in the playoffs. But Nylander hasn’t done much in the playoff format.
They’re both good players. But they’re both definitely not the guys you build around. So paying either more than 8 is just killer for the cap. I wanna pay my top 2 centers and my top 2 dmen before I pay one of them!!!
