watching the u.s./canada game, i was wondering if the nhl would ever consider making the playing surface bigger? maybe not full european size but something approaching it. i'd think it would cut down on injuries and i think it makes for a better game, but that's just my opinion. no doubt the owners would squeal about losing a row of seats...
anyways...i missed the 1st period but it's a pretty entertaining tilt so far.

The owners will counter with players half the size then the existing surface looks larger.

Can’t be any doubt Andrew Mangiapani has to be Canada’s MVP, totally different team since he showed up. And Stecher and Power playing nearly half the game. Turns out in an undermanned tournament Canada is far from the worst after all.

Also he presence has helped guys like Power. He really got a hold of playing amongst men and started to dominate. Good for him. I thought this was the worst collection of players ever assembled. Mangiapani comes in and he was solid. Gotta give credit to Turk and the coaching staff here. They didn’t quit and this team looks like a Gallant run team. No quit. Gotta love the guy. I doubt he’s unemployed very long!!!

Considering he was drafted by Detroit in the 6th round and played 9 seasons with them in the 80's and 90's, Scotty must know him well. It'd be the best move made by the Bowmans and help the team play a simple defensive system with a hard forecheck.

It would certainly cut down on the physicality and favor the smaller, faster teams............depends on a guy's preference I guess. I agree though, the owners ain't giving up those $300 seats.

Nothing to really say about the Canada/Germany game. All three Hawk interests are close to invisible. I will say even with little high end talent Canada does look like a Gallant coached team, high pursuit and always skating. Man, I’d like to see what he, or someone with the same philosophy, could do in Chicago. This I agree on. But that Canada team stinks like a rancid fart. I kinda feel bad for the guy trying to get another job while coaching the North Korean field hockey team!!! boy....this post didn't age well. : ) just hacking you, mate. no one saw this coming. i told the missus that tomorrow we had to delay our weekly shopping trip to the big city because the canada game's on at noon. now a couple hours ago i realized i was out 12 hours and it's on at midnight. not the first time that's happened and not the last either i'm sure. the only reason i figured it out was i stumbled on the u.s./germany game result and it clicked because i knew one game closely followed the other. the u.s. hammered them 6-1 for the bronze. reichel never made the scoresheet and the germans actually outshot the us 31-22 but to no avail. i'm always sawing logs by 9 at night, so it's going to be a struggle to stay awake until the end of the game but i'm going to give it a go. i gotta' see this one out if i can.

Good chance Kaprizov wins RoTY but that Robertson is a helluva player, always around the puck.

Mangiapani has really helped. It really gave them a scorer. He has 7 goals in 6 games. Right now Finland is playing shit hockey and faking injuries for calls. They play not to win. It’s hard to root for teams like that. I thought they rounded the corner and gave that up. It’s terrible for development. I don’t think I’ve ever seen 5 guys behind the goal line starting a breakout. They play it so safe. Not a fun team to watch. But good on Canada for not giving up. This game right here is why I don’t care for the international game much anymore. I think I’ll skip the rest of this and head out in the backyard and go for a swim. It’s a nice 90F here today. Kinda hard to stay in and watch tv!!!

I went for a dip, but my boy has been glued to the game so I came back to watch with him. OT, should be good. I’m glad the refs gave it to the Finns for dicking around and faking. Theyve been much better the last half of the game!!!

Congrats to Canada for the GOLD!!!! Gotta give Gallant a ton of credit here. He takes a shit team and makes them believe that they’re the best and they knock off all the favourites along the way. He did it with Vegas. He’s got a special gift for winning. Congratulations to team Canada, I thought they’d struggle to score a goal let alone win. Then Mangiapani comes in and looks like a 1988 version of Gretzky. Adam Henrique I know well. He led my spitfires to 2 Memorial Cups. Guys a winner. Now, back to the pool!!!

Connor Brown, a set up machine. Leads the tournament in scoring, 2 goals and 14 assists. Henrique and Mangiapani 11 points each. And maybe a star is born in Owen Power, another 24+ minute game again. And sure, maybe they backed into the playoffs somewhat but I can’t call any gold medal team shitty, and even though Gallant used his players well it was the players themselves who earned this.

Team Canada needed like 9 things to go their way to get in. It was ridiculous how lucky they were to get in. It wasn’t that much of a team effort. Only half the team actually played. It almost cost them. Mangiapani was dead out there. So was the 4 d they only used. So the team was somewhat shitty. To only play 6 forwards and 4 d is really flirting with utter disaster. But it worked, none of the other guys wined. So all is good. But when they played 4 lines, it didn’t go very well. Power only got a chance due to Miller getting hurt. So the team as a whole wasn’t very good. The half of a team that ended up playing was good enough to win!!!

Call them undermanned or being marginal talent wise or whatever but they played 10 games in 16 days and won the tournament wearing the Maple Leaf on their sweaters, shitty is the last word I’ll use to describe them. As for their TOI, it wasn’t far off what any team playing their final game would do, you ride your top lines and top pairings.
