he is doing it himself so he can prolong his career so he might have a chance to win enough rings to make everyone forget about another guy who wore 23... MJ didn't take weeks off so he was fresh for the playoffs. he didn't take games off, period. LeBron can pound sand. also, he is a one man contender, not a one man championship. he has pretty well proven he can't win shit unless he has a couple other stars playing with him, and even then it isn't certain. Nothing's certain and no one wins a title by himself. He had a great crew in Miami but Cleveland......CLEAVLAND,was crap before he got there and crap after he left. He coulda signed anywhere after he left Miami but he made Cleavland a promise and he made good on it. The Lakers were a last place team the year before he signed there. He joined a LA team in '18' that hadn't made the PO's since '14' or the finals since '2010'.........LA won it all in '19'. Of course LA added other pieces, like I said no one wins it by himself. I agree MJ was more of a warrior.....more than any current day player but LBJ's had his injuries along the way and a lot of miles on the odometer. None of those teams win those titles without LeBron. You can feel any way you want about the guy personally but his achievements are undeniable and how in the hell is resting himself and foregoing regular season personal stats so he can stay healthy and help his team win more titles a bad thing? He is 37. Cleveland tanked while he was in Miami and set up the franchise for him to make his grand return. he had a "big 3" in Cleveland too... LA tanked before he arrived solely to clear cap space so they could put a team around him after his first season... indeed, none of them win without him, though. he is only doing it for himself, not his team. he is only doing it because he wants so badly to surpass a player he can't unless he rests himself, and even then he can't (imo). I have no ill feelings toward him as a person and I appreciate that he is a top 5 all timer. if anything, he seems like a fairly good guy. but, I get quickly annoyed with "the debate", which i know isn't happening here really but I get a little touchy when it comes to him and his "load management". I guess I am too old school to be ok with it when the guy he is trying to surpass would've never dreamed of doing such a thing.... I'm gonna check out of debating this any further, cuz it surely doesn't belong in Johnny's thread...

First day of camp and Johnny's on the ice, hopefully this thread gets back on track and not talking about that other sport.

It will be interesting to see how the new additions adapt to whatever Colliton calls his system. A full training camp gets everyone exposed to it as opposed to last year when the new players never learned it until partway through the season, sometimes to the detriment of both player and team.

They'll probably hate it, especially the D. During the 2 prospect games a few times I noticed Crevier chase a guy to the blueline 🤦♂️ of course King is playing the same system. As for Toews, it was great seeing him step on the ice today and smiling.

Well, season is approaching, training camps are starting, lineups are slowly shaping in, so it's logical that the forum is luring members more to come and share. And most importantly, fantasy league is getting ready to start. At least for the majority of participants, not so much for GT who has to go IT training first...

Personally. I think Toews is fine. He’s been skating for a long time. And even he said that his ailment wasn’t really that bad, he just never healed properly and he drove himself into the ground. He knows now how to avoid that. I don’t think he’s completely 💯, but the timing and game play are coming back fine. I don’t think he’s really out of sync. He’s been skating since May he said, so I don’t think he’s really that far out of shape. Besides the maintenance days or the odd game off to keep him fresh. I think he’ll be fine. What I took from his ailment was simply that he had Covid, he didn’t fully recover, and drove himself into the ground. He looks good out there. Good for him. I just hope the media folks stop with their lunatic writings that he’s not ready and baby steps etc. He’s ready and he’s looking like the #1 Center he always is!!!

so when we shouldn't take the player's word for it, then? the media guys are just echoing what Johnny has been saying since May...
he looked fair the other night. he isn't all the way back, but he is far enough along that he should surely be on the ice come 10/13, and likely more often than not after that date.
I think the best thing to do is to just do the same thing he is doing: take it day by day. anything more than that will just lead to inflated expectations and disappointment when they aren't met...

It was hard watching him at times cause he looked lost but considering he's been off for over a year, he did fine. 70% at faceoffs plus a nice give n go with Kurashev and the first shootout goal, pretty good considering he's rusty but it shouldn't take an elite athlete like JT to get his timing back.

He admits he still has a bit of a way to go but it wasn't hard for me to watch my friend.

Three solid months of hard work(before camp!)with teammates and I heard Murph say how good he looked some time back. He has been through some physical issues serious enough to sit out an entire season so I do see the hesitation by some but I like what I see so far. I think he did mention some lingering Covid issues and an overall fatigue along with the immune issue which is probably a combination of the three but I'm just speculating. None of us know for sure if he'll need maintenance games off or reduced minutes but my guess is 'fuggedaboutit' to use the proper Chicago vernacular. JC said we'll play it day by day after the Wings game and lo and behold,it looks like he's in again tonight. The one thing I'm sure we can all agree on is how GREATFUL we are it wasn't the serious and deadly issues we heard suggested.......ALS woulda been a death sentence.

I doubt ANY veteran plays every PS game,a lotta top players are yet to make their PS debut and most will play a game or two,Fla's elite guys didn't see action in their 1st 3 PS games. I just think being ready to go after leading all forwards in TOI two days later is a great sign.

I think they are playing him tonight to see how he responds to playing two in a row. I'm sure Johnny gave it the thumbs up as well. not to mention he'll have a week off after tonight before the final home preseason game. the guys scrambling to make the team should do a lot of traveling this next week (and tomorrow).

I think after this weekend we will see Rockfords roster get like 20 guys and start their training camp. Followed by a trickle of players going back down as the week moves forward.

I personally think McCabe has it worse than Toews. He’s been off for a while with his knee. That’s really hard to come back from. You’ll be a totally different skater afterwards. But with the training and surgery nowadays, it’s not career ending. I’m not expecting anything from Toews or the Hawks for that matter. I’ve learned to just let it play out. It’s hard to know what to expect. On one hand the team should be better, on the other the team has failed miserably and the roster turnover factor. So let’s see where it goes. I’ll even go as far to say for the first 20 games or so, don’t get too high on the highs and don’t get too low on the lows. The roster has been flip flopped again and they need at least 20 games to gel and get to know each other. I just think that Toews looks normal to me. Not expecting a career year or anything, just that he looks good out there!!!

I wonder how much Toews gets to speak French? I grew up with it, and while never completely fluent in it, I found that after awhile i never used it and since then I’ve pretty much completely lost the ability to use it at all. If Toews wanted to he’d have a future as GM or coach in Montreal just based on that alone.
