If Danny is going to give this new hire the kind of free reign as described in the Sun-Times article, it’s got to be a great choice and a guy with enough hockey experience to have deep connections throughout the NHL and the rest of the hockey world. If they hire a Greenberg and then HE has to choose a knowledgeable hockey guy under him, how can he make that choice when he doesn’t have the connections in the hockey world? Who does he turn to for advice - Scotty?? This first hire has to be the right guy or the “plan” falls apart immediately.

Hahaha yup. Good ol Danny. There were a few characters over there. Remember the overly positive guy who had wrestlings Paul Bearer for his avatar and he always gave 2 pips and a hurray at the end of every post? It was Mr something or something like that. It was funny!!! |

I wasn’t sure if this was a serious consideration. But then again he really is a fairly smart dude and he’s been around. Probably better than a couple of options I’ve seen. I agree. I don’t think he’s GM material right now. But he has potential. He was around those Hawks teams that were Cup caliber. However. There’s only been one guy with any experience as a GM and he sucks. Which leads me to believe that there’s going to be a place holder till Scambo is allowed back!!! |

I personally think an H&R block reject to a mechanical engineer is indeed a step forward, plus John Scott is coming in with more Hockey Experience than Bowman the Beancounter did when he came in. |

I think it would be media suicide if Bettman lets him back into the league anytime soon. The very last thing the NHL needs is the public appearance that they forgive someone who was closely related to a sexual assault cover-up. That's the kind of media attention no organization wants--neither the 'hawks nor the NHL proper. Distant future? Who knows. Personally, I'd hate to have him back as the GM and he should stick to doing the taxes for Binny's Beverage Depot. But I would be really, really surprised if anyone who resigned over this (irrespective of *actual* culpability) was employed by the NHL in the next 5 years. |

Saw that one yesterday made me laugh. Everyone in interview room knows more about basketball and baseball then they do hockey. Good grief!! Just think about how much you could BS someone who knows nothing about your job that you are interviewing for what a train wreak.

Hawks probably asked every team in every sport to send them a list of executives from their office. Doesn't mean they are considering every single one of them or they would be there for an interview. |

Danny and Jamie ain't hocky people so why would they see the need for hockey people? If they go with a non-hockey GM it only shows how little regard they have for the game IMO.
Taking the game in a new direction.

Taking the game in a new direction. That's why I'm hoping the Big 3 point them in the right direction, they all know Scott from his brief time here and I'm sure Mellanbys reputation proceeds him. They shouldn't get a non hockey person as the GM. Maybe when they said "in a new direction", they meant the opposite of the last GM and they pick someone who actually played and knows the game. |

did the management set a date when they'll have a GM? i thought i read they want one before the deadline (3/21)? if thats the case and lets say they want to give him/her a week to prepare for tdl, so maybe 3/14 - are they interviewing EVERYONE available and then pick one by 3/14? OR they're continuing their interviews because none of the candidates that have been interviewed made them go like "yup this is who want"?

I think they'll say they are counting on the new GM to bring in hockey people to advise them should they hire a non-hockey type. ya know, kinda like how normal teams would hire a hockey ops prez and then bring in people to advise them. like, say, a GM.... all this is is a show, so they can say they searched high and low and the best option was always right there in front of them... |
