Lotta injuries around the league. Hopefully KD can move out some guys soon and gain some ground on the 8 teams below the Hawks. Is Columbus gonna try and save their season? Werenski is done for the year. Maybe they try and add in someone like Murphy or McCabe? Both have term, which I’m guessing the BJs would want. I doubt they’re in rebuild mode any more. So I’d look to move one of those two, and give Mitchell a shot. Gotta get the tank going!!! Unfortunately every move that KD has made seems to have improved the team, from hiring a competent head coach to signing guys like Domi and Happytoseeyou. He's failing miserably so far at failing miserably I am so glad for this. It is not the nightmare watching them I thought it was gonna be! They will still be towards the bottom the real nightmare starts in a year or two .

not really meant as a comparison of the two managers...more of a comparison of their situations.

Here’s a thought. This could be dead wrong. But what if all the talk about KD getting a shit return for Kane is all for show? Then KD gets a decent return, maybe not the best. Then all of us are saying how wonderful he is and did much better than we expected. All the pundits saying the return will be bad are people that are in the orgs back pocket it seems.
So let’s see how this pans out first. KD is trading a legend. And the return is probably not going to be the haul people were thinking at first. So I believe the org came in to protect him. If the Hawks get a B prospect and a 2nd rounder. Then ya, for Kane, that was awful. But I feel there’s more at play here!!!

I cannot ever recall in any sport in my years where there’s a report of a trade deal being underwhelming then the players’ names didn’t leak within a day or two. - reporters all want the scoop, they’ll run with it if they know. The fact that this has remained SO silent - why wouldn’t Powers and Zawaski trip over themselves to “break” the story? Hawks’ brass has to be the true “underwhelming” source quote.

Lazerus is the one that’s been reporting this. Powers has said a little bit and Zawaski has reported what the others are reporting. It’s a viscous cycle. But you’re right. This has been going on for quite sometime. And the only thing leaked is that the return will be underwhelming. No word of what picks or prospects. Just that it won’t be good. So that’s why I wrote that last post. Maybe there’s something to it!!!

The main reason is, is that Kane is not going to sign a contract with the Rangers. He will be only there for the remainder of this year and playoffs and then resign with the Hawks this summer. His dream is to surpass Mikita as the Hawks all time leading scorer.

davidson is proving to be a horrible GM who is in way over his head, takes zero skill to sell players below market value for whatever draft picks a team will part with
he is more suited for an intern role than a GM position, and all the other teams know this
this rebuild will fail

I think he has done a good job of getting a ton of draft capital, both last summer and going forward. now we will see how he and the scouting department do identifying prospects...

Looks like KD hands were tied here, and Drury GM for Rangers is no dummy. I am sure he asked for the 2023 first round pick and the compromise was 2nd that can become a 1st but in 24 or 25. Some will say just hold on to him, but it sounded like Kane sure wanted to go (just remember his comments when Tarasenko was dealt, was that disappointment or a bit of fuming by Kane?) and then you run the risk of him not resigning if that was option by getting his hopes up and ready to join the Rangers only at the last minute to say sorry Patrick. Look, with this process and only one team option KD tried to do the best for Hawks and Kane. KD will be ultimately judged on the draft picks he selects and how they develop. He has gotten of boatload of picks and the 2022 draft on paper so far is very promising, still a long way to go though as now the rebuild is in full motion.

I would be unhappy with the deal if Kaner weren't coming back but I believe Kaner will be resigned in the off season. KD and Kaner probably had it all worked out. Trade me for whatever you can get and I will come back in the off season and sign a new contract. Kaner's heart and his family are in Chicago plus he wants to be the all time leading scorer on the Hawks. This would be his crowning point letting him eventually retire in a blaze of glory.
People need to stop being doom and gloom until the see the final outcome this summer.

He's never coming back until the ceremonial 1-day contract at end of his career (though at this point I hope they don't do that either) if he wanted to be the all-time leading scorer he wouldn't have waived the NMC, it obviously does not matter to him legacy tarnished time to be realistic

Let him shuffle off to Buffalo to finish his career.

The Red Wings just got a 1st round pick for freaking Filip Hronek... but the bum GM of the Blackhawks couldn't get one for Patrick F-ing Kane... let that sink in (and I don't want to hear any BS about how he had no power to negotiate, etc. he did, he had the future HOF player with 3 stanley cups who he could have just not traded instead of giving him away for a bag of crap)

I’d have to think over the next 48 hours KD can find a taker for Murphy. Why not retain half? Maybe Carolina sends that 1st that’s on the TSN trade board for Murphy at 2.2 million? That would help their team. I think at half price, Murphy nets a 1st. Plus the salary retained helps the Hawks hit the cap floor. And the cap floor is only 19 million from the ceiling. So every move counts!!!

Unless they used another somewhere else? I believe they’ve got one left. I’d use it to move Murphy. I truly believe they can get a haul for Murphy at 2.2 for 2 more years. Maybe the Oilers give up Broberg or Holloway? Never know!!!

do we have another retention slot available? I feel like no. I dunno that Carolina needs another d-man, either. The Hawks used one on Kane, one on McCabe. Unless they used another somewhere else? I believe they’ve got one left. I’d use it to move Murphy. I truly believe they can get a haul for Murphy at 2.2 for 2 more years. Maybe the Oilers give up Broberg or Holloway? Never know!!! Oilers need another righty and they gave up a lot for a 32yr old dman, so you never know.

Maybe trade Campbell, Holloway and a 2nd rounder to the Hawks for Murphy (half retained). It gives the Oilers a little more room to do something else. Maybe a tendy!!!
