I believe the writer was if anything too generous to Little Bowman. We all understand the cap problems the team faced during the cup runs. Nevertheless, there were always options, and Bowman typically traded the wrong players at the wrong time. For example... In 2010, Bowman decided that Ladd and Byfuglien were the players to move. Many of us hated that decision. A better choice might have been to give away Brian Campbell or trade Sharp/Kopecky or Kopecky/Dave Bolland (who was a fourth liner by 2013). Any of these combinations would have resulted in the same cap savings. In 2015, Bowman decided to move out both Sharp and Saad. In doing so, the general manager added big salaries in Anisimov and Daley which meant the cap savings were minimal. The smarter approach would have been to keep Sharp (who had zero or negative trade value by that point) and trade Saad for futures without salary coming back. Sharp rebounded quite nicely in Dallas playing again on the first line. Anisimov was never much more than an overpaid caddie for Kane. Daley survived less than a half season here. Adding Teravainen to Bickell was only necessary because Bowman decided Bickell had to go. A better choice would have been to keep Teravainen and shop Anisimov for futures. Trading Panarin for Saad made no sense even then, given that there was no cap savings. If Panarin had to go, the trade should have been for prospects and draft picks (similar to what we are discussing for Debrincat now). Trading Saad (while keeping salary) for the big Russian didn't bother me that much (considering the cap savings), but trading away the young defenceman a year later for a 3rd round pick was beyond frustrating.

Scotty Bowman an executive of Detroit a flerce competitor of the Blackhawks had no influence over Mike Smith and Stan Bowman is not related to Mike Smith so no nepotism. Now Stan a valued employee since 2000 had influence and his father started in 2008 now that is nepotism. I gotta give you some credit here. I know we go back and forth about the last guy. But you’ve been ever so loyal to him. You’ve stayed your ground and haven’t wavered. Even when facts and the proof are being presented. You just don’t give a fugazi and keep on trucking. Good for you!!! Thank you.

What if the team doesn't trade a #12 for a #32 last year along with this year's 1st and a 20yro D-man playing in the league for a player they could have signed this year as an UFA............who outbids that deal this summer? Cole Sillinger was lost last year @#12,the kid saw 16/31 for the BJ's last year.....he turned 19 less than a month ago..........THE HORROR!!!!!!! Joker for NOlander Boqvist over Bouchard,Dobson and Miller? Better D-men like Lundkvist,Sandin,Alexander and Samuelsson came after the 168lb Beaudin that draft also......Seider in '19'...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKcAYMb5uk4

Disagree on 39: DeHaan was been way more bad than good--in fact he's only looked like an NHL d-man this past season. D+ or C- on that trade

If you or I were the GM. This team gets rebuilt fairly quickly. I personally take Dobson at 8. We had those discussions. Since I had 19/88/12 etc. at 3. I take Byram. Since his Colorado days wouldn’t exist. Neither would that cheap shot concussion. My defense for the future is set. Sillinger would a been great. This years pick would a been great. Plus all the other good players the garbage man passed on. Should a been easy to rebuild on the fly with what they had. Plus keep Joker. And a not waste the pick on Beaudin. DONE!!!

Of course it isn't. I think a lot of people have overrated DeHaan this season though, because (a) he looked like an NHL'er this year and this year alone and (b), the 'hawks D has sucked since 2016 so guys look better than they actually are. I'm not so glib as to think Bowman didn't make some good moves in his tenure, but as it boils down there's much much more bad than good. As I've said before he could be a workable GM (without the stank of a sexual assault cover-up around his neck, of course) for a team that has a lot of the core pieces in place and they need to maintain while they are at the top, but his performance after the last cup win has been a Mongolian clusterfuck in my opinion.

Some will say that second guessing is easy and hindsight is 20/20 but you,I and others made suggestions at the time as far as picks, trades and signings that actually have worked out better that most of what we saw the last 3-4 years. A far as being GM,I'm sure I've made some bad suggestions too so I'll leave the job to you my friend. I'll always wonder how two overpaid(4.4M&4M),mediocre at best D-men trending down were targeted in trade, assets were given up and NO money was retained while the big, rugged, stay at home D-man Chiarot signed for 3.5MX3 in Montreal.......higher taxes and FAR from a sexy destination. We retained $$$ on Matta and were STUCK with deHAAN-job while Montreal made an unexpected SCF then flipped Chiarot for a 1st and a prospect this year......this team could be loaded with picks and we have none!
