Korchinski is a kid that also see a year or two in the farm if not ready. I’d give him another year in Jrs. Then I’d give him a shot. Like an actual shot. I’d give him the 9 games, and if he looked the part of an NHL player, I’d keep him around for another month. Sure it burns his ELC first year. But who cares? If he has to go to the farm for the rest of that year, so be it. It’s not an issue. Best case scenario is he gets re-signed at a lower amount due to not getting 3 full years in. Maybe he looks pretty good and gets a deal similar to Chychrun? That helps immensely. Give him a 6 year 30 million deal.
Anyways. I don’t think he’s far off, maybe a year or two to get him in the NHL full time!!!

68pts in 50gms, 9g-59a. And he's +50. Those are impressive numbers for an 18yr old.
It'll be best for him to play in the WHL next season but if Luke thinks he's ready I'd trust his judgment. He should get a 9gm look.

I’m of the thought that if he deserves a shot, let him try it out. Even 4-5 games. I don’t like not giving people a chance if they deserve it. But I understand the plan. I think it may be best to get his feet wet and let him learn the pro game. They can groom him slowly and let him earn his way up. Not every kid has to over cook in the Jrs then the farm. If he’s the real deal. Let him play. They can also loan him to the Canadian team for the WJC. Which to me may be the best way to go!!!

I've posted several times that I think he has 2 main areas to improve before he can reach his potential - shooting and scoring goals and getting physically stronger to be better in one-on-one battles. The shooting/scoring wouldn't prevent him from playing in the NHL but I think the physical strength would. It's not that he's weak or afraid to stick his nose in the action but he loses more battles than he wins. He's very good with his stick and fast pass out of trouble but if it turns into a scrum he loses more than he will once he gets stronger and losing those scrums in the NHL against stronger and faster opponents will not be the best thing for his confidence and development. Let him get a taste to realize how much he needs to work to improve and then go improve in the WHL. One more thing - the Hawks will be bad again next season so the Hawks don't need their top prospects to be at the NHL level yet - a 100% developed Korchinski in 2024/25 is better than a 85% developed Korchinski in 2023/24.

One last thing to add. If he ends up winning the Memorial Cup. There’s really nothing left to prove at the Jr level. And going back may actually be detrimental to a kid with nothing to prove.
I personally feel they’ll send him back as they have this don’t rush them approach. I get that. But every situation is different. If they get Bedard. Are they sending him back?
So far I’ve seen a lot of inexperienced moves. And I hope more aren’t to come!!!

I think KD and Co would agree that every situation is different. after his camp last fall, I have a hard time believing he doesn't get a longgg look in the pre-season and then gets 9. if he looks good in those 9. he probably stays. if not, let him marinate for one more year. I'd kinda rather him not be around for a long season of losing, as is likely to be the case next year, but if he is ready then he is ready.

I really look forward to watching him play and when he’s ready - we’ll see him on the big club. I like the idea of his playing for Canada - WJC - and think all these experiences add up for him and will make him a better player.

With a 4-2 win Seattle tied the franchise record in wins with 52, set in 1989-90.
Korchinski got his 60th assist.

I agree with the bolded - I'm just saying I don't think he's ready physically and my concern is he will be out physical'd which could result in him losing confidence and setting him back. If he gets some games and proves me wrong - great! He will not be 19 until June so he's young for his draft class. I watched Kaiser's first game tonight and he looked solid and ready to play in the NHL - including winning physical battles. He is 2 years older than Korchinski and although Kaiser skates well he isn't as gifted a skater as Korchinski - but he is stronger and better equipped to handle the physicality of the NHL at this time. I realize this is the Korchinski thread so I probably shouldn't be talking about other d-prospects - but after watching so many Seattle games I've really got a good appreciation for Nolan Allan. Allan has good size, skates pretty well and he is a tough SOB - really like the way he plays and I think he has a chance to find a job in the NHL.

I believe part of being ready is being able to physically handle the rigours of the NHL. I see what you’re saying and I see that exact problem with my sons hockey. A lot of kids have skill, but they’re easily pushed to the outside and end up becoming perimeter players. They’re goals and points go down. They don’t “play between the dots” so to speak. And this is 11 year old AAA. Not 18 year old WHL. So if they’re not ready in all those aspects, they’re just not ready. I feel many fans think that a kid is ready because they’re out scoring themselves in a lower league. That’s not always the case. I heard many say the same things about Wyatt Johnston last year. He wasn’t going to be ready because he lost most of his draft year due to Covid. But last I checked he’s thriving in the nhl and has 16 goals as a rookie. And most thought he’d get manhandled. We’ll know right away if KK is ready!!!

Korchinski is a few inches taller than Kaiser and he's almost 15lbs heavier, Kevin will be in the 190s after the next offseason, from what I've seen he seems pretty strong and with his elite skating and puck control he has a good chances of making the team next season. And no BT, I don't think he's ready because of the numbers he's putting up but with how much he's progressed since his draft year, he's playing good at both ends and he's a huge part of Seattle's best regular season ever.

I realize I'm dangerously close to beating a dead horse but I'm going to add this bit of nuance to my argument, cuz, well - why not. First, posted height/weight is often times out of date, but more importantly is not always apples to apples in terms of resulting play - strong lower body versus upper body weight distribution stuff. My observation of watching Korchinski play about a dozen times over the past couple months is that he struggles to win one-on-one scrums. It doesn't affect him often because he's so quick and good with his stick that he moves himself or the puck before he gets tied up - but on those times he gets tied up he usually the one getting bodied versus the one bodying the other guy.

I brought up Wyatt Johnston. He played 53 games in a Covid shortened season. Only 30 points. He had no time to get it going with 2 lockdowns. Dallas stole him at 23. He went back last year and got 124 points. He took a huge step and there was nothing left to prove. Now he’s got 20 goals as a rookie. Kid will be a star…… all pun intended. I think KK could be the same. He seems to have “it”. As in the pro game. So if he’s ready. Play him. If not, he’s got some work to do in the farm. He really shouldn’t be compared ever to Boqvist. And I’m not suggesting you or anyone was. I just think Boqvist was rushed and the last guy couldn’t wait to show him off and be the smartest guy in the room. KK is bigger fast and stronger. And if not dropped on the top pairing, I’m sure KK can earn his way and be fine like Charlie McAvoy!!!

Sounds like a fair assessment, the kid' strengths are skating and offensive production. Just because he's a big kid, doesn't mean he still can't improve that important,"lower-body" strength you mentioned and core strength too and probably already is at his age with maturity alone. Smaller kids can struggle at times when they attempt to 'pack-on' that 10-15lbs of muscle on a small-frame but this kid's big frame will mature naturally and with today's conditioning. You also mentioned his speed and quickness results in him being first to the puck, which is a big advantage for a young D-man too.

Korchinskis first goal he snuck down and got the puck and skated to the left of the net and waited for the goalie to open the fivehole and put it in, 2nd goal he picked up the rebound near the left faceoff dot and fired it home.
Since the World Juniors it seems like he's shooting more, his goal at the WJs to help tie Bedard with Lindros in points, was an elite level snipe.
And his teammate Allan is also shooting more and they both have 11 goals each. Gonna be nice seeing those big Saskatchewan kids patrolling the Hawks blueline one day.

Finished the regular season with 11g-62a for 73pts in 54gms. Last season he had 4g-61a in 67gms. Career highs in all 3 categories in 13 less games.

They have such a strong team I would be surprised if they don't win at least a couple rounds. Defense and goaltending are solid and have been healthy - so fingers crossed there. They've had some injuries with forwards coming down the stretch, including Dach who came back a few games ago after missing a couple weeks. They're still missing (2) top-9 forwards - Sawchyn and Gustafsson - so hopefully they get back soon.

I agree that another year in the W won't kill him, but I also agree with ebonyraptor on his take of "give him his cup O joe"...if he looks close to NHL ready. In the preseason there will be a lot of guys like Korch playing; guys floating between the NHL and the A, W, O, QMJL, and just about every other league there is. There will be some sprinklings of NHL players (getting more and more NHL-biased as preseason goes), but for the most part it won't be a full roster of NHL'ers. If physicality and playing through it is a question, I think there is a lot of value for Korch to see and play against NHL-level physicality to get a good sense of what he'll be up against night in and night out. Trying to stop David Pasternak is a lot different (and more difficult) than trying to stop Dawson Pasternak. If he's close, give him some games up to his 9 and send him back. If he's not close send him back before the season of course, but I think getting some real NHL time this go-around and then sending him back will pay dividends.
