I agree with DJ there. The team will be richer for it. I’m still worried about Chychrun. He’s often injured. I hope he can find a string of years here where he’s healthy.
But the Sens will be a force soon. They’re good at rebuilding. They’ve done it 4 times since the new millennium!!!

The big kid looked good to start @4-0-1 coming into that game in Chicago to begin the ill-fated road trip with Talbot going down for the season and the team was on a 12-3-1 heater too......Dam Hawks...LOL! Beat the Sens twice. It's been encouraging to see the 22yro 6'7" rookie GT bounce back though. Allowing Boston,TB and Fla 6gls on 98shts over the 3 games,it'll be interesting to see if Ottawa goes with Sogaard as a 30 start back-up next year with a good vet GT added of if they let him get real good at Bellville......22's still young for a GT.
Sens have 8 games left and more than likely need 14 of the remaining 16 available points, while the Pens would have to take only 8 of their remaining 18 points and the Sabres,Caps and Fla would have to do their parts too. Two teams that are out of the hunt but playing well,Flyers and BJ's are MUST wins. Two team that a out of a spot but still ahead of the Sens,Fla and Buffalo are both on the road and both also must wins. Home game against the Leafs and Tampa comes back to town looking to revenge a 7-2 shellacking.......they'll need both wins. And the they're the two with the Canes........YIKES!
I still look back to all the close, regulation losses early on,the Pens have 10 loser points and the Sens have 5......the Sens trail the Pens by 5 points!

It looks like Talbot WILL give those 35yro body parts another go and Dylan Ferguson goes back down just as Chabot joins Chychrun on the walking-wounded list....
20yro Jake Sanderson will see big minutes in big games the rest of the way,and his 21yro former UoND teammate and #44 over-all,Tyler Kleven will join him on the blue-line when he makes his rookie debut tomorrow night........
Former #15 over-all,23yro Brannstrom is coming into his own on the back-end this year and 22yro former 1st's Bernard-Docker and Larsson both have size, both have developed well in Bellville(1 stay-at-home,1 offensive, and both much needed right-shot D-men)and both already have a handful of NHL games. Ottawa has the potential to get even younger and they're young as it is......Chabot 25,Chychrun 24,Zub 27 to go along with the younger guys. 35yro Holden's gone this summer but 32yro Hamonic has played well and is only one of two vet RS D-men.......I think he returns unless the Sens can find a true top RS D-man this summer.

The Sens ONLY need 13 of the last 16 points available and then have the Pens,Fla and Buffalo all stumble down the stretch.....YIKES! But it is March 30th and the Sens could close to within 3 points with a win tonight against the Flyers and a Pens loss to the Preds who are only 3 out of a spot in the west. The only thing better than meaningful games in March is meaningful games in April for the young team!

d-cat 4" shorter and a half a dozen pounds lighter.
not sure d-cat got into the fight to inspire his team. they seemed to be doing alright regardless.
SOG 27-5 for ottawa after 2 periods. 3-1 ottawa.

when it was 3-1 after 2 and the shots were so lobsided i was worried ottawa might be in a bit of trouble, but then giroux scores to make it 4-1 and i figured "ok, they'll be fine now". fast fwd to the end of the 3rd...SOG that period favored the sens 17-5 but the score after regulation was 4-4. go figure.
d-cat said enough of this shit and ended it in o/t.
it was very very close to ending badly for ottawa, though.

Nice to see Talbot at least stop seven of the eleven he faced but he has been off a while. The 46-11,35 SOG disparity was only 2 short of the league record but there was a PP deflection and an unnecessary turn-over or two in the 3rd too. Brassard got hurt and Hamonic joins Chychrun and Chabot with an injury also, should see Ottawa recall another rookie D-man today......a LOT of kids are getting a LOT of experience in important games.

It woulda been a SOB WITH Chychrun,Chabot and Hamonic but it appears the three are done for the year, which doesn't bode well for the present but 20yro Sanderson,23yro Brannstrom,21yro Kleven and 22yro Benard-Docker(three 1st round picks and one 2nd)will all see minutes in important games to close it out and that bodes well for the future.....
It sounds like 20yro Ridley Grieg also draws back in after some better than expected injury news and 22yro Soggard gets the net in Toronto.
Chychrun,Chabot and Zub are 25,26 and 27,35yro Holden won't return and maybe 31yro Hamonic on a 1 or 2 year deal since he's a reliable vet right-shot unless Bernard-Docker seizes that right-shot D-spot........either way,the 2nd youngest team in the league could actually get even younger next year when 35yro,4 goals on 11 shots Talbot is gone.

Both have one 35yro GT but the Sens back-up/1B is a developing 22yro seeing big games while the Hawks went with two old guys. Another huge difference is,the Hawks are only recently young after trading vets who played full-time prior to the TDL and the Sens have had a lot of their kids in all year and added more. It is encouraging to see some youngsters in there for the Hawks finally though and I hope it continues next year.

Early in the game between Ottawa and Columbus 3 goals scored.
First Columbus took the lead on a goal 2:41 in. Ottawa tied it at the 4 minute mark. Then Columbus took the lead back just 5 seconds later at 4:05. That is some sort of defensive breakdown or serious goalie failure.

DJ's gotta see what Talbot has since his return because the kid's been inconsistent at best himself, allowing 3 on the 20 shots he faced last time out. The Sens top three D-men are out,all replaced by kids yet the team allowed only 53 SOG's against the last three BUT 11 goals on those 53 shots resulted in only 3 points. Goaltending seems to be the mission this offseason..

I guess DJ's seen enough of Talbot, turning to the 20yro Finn taken in the 3rd round back in '20' in net last night in Carolina,Ottawa's 7th GT used this year. The kid stopped 35 of 37 in regulation before losing a tough OT road game and looked good doing it. Not bad for only his 2nd NA game, his first was a 41 save shutout for Belleville last week. Sogaard 6'7" and Mandolese 6'5" are both 22 and both looked good at times,24yro Ferguson almost pitched a shutout in his debut and was .940 in his two starts and now 20yro Merilainen makes a soild debut......gotta be a starting GT in there somewhere. They'll need a quality vet in goal for another two years while the young GT's develop further though IMO.

senshot.com/2023/04/02/cam-talbot-for-filip-gustavsson/2/Hindsight's always 20/20 but there just wasn't much to impress about the 24yro goaltender last summer. Average at best in parts of 4 AHL seasons but a nice first impression (5-1-2 .933/2.16) in Ottawa two years ago. He unfortunately followed it up with (5-12-1 .892/3.55) last year with a number of quality GT prospects also in the system. DJ gives the net back to the 20yro again tonight down in Sunrise, staring elimination in the face.

The kid comes to North America for the first time and pitches a 41 save shutout in Bellville, then comes to Ottawa for the first time and stops 35 of 37 and then sees Florida for the first time in his 20 years and 3 of the first 11 shots he faces go right through him.......the 22yro back-up allowed 4 more on the 11 he faced in the 2nd. Young GT's will age coaches prematurely.......both had played well prior.
I remember seeing Alex Lyon at the last prospect camp I went to back in '15' on an invite for the Hawks,he mostly bounced around the 'A' while seeing a few games for the Flyers and Canes before Fla signed him for league minimum. 5-0-0 with 7 goals allowed over that span with an eye-opening .965sv%. Born in Beaudette MN.......the Walleye capitol of the world.
The team was 'on the bit' after D-Cat got clobbered and 'on the body' too, they scored to make it 3-1 and had momentum until Brady hit their GT a couple times with hilarity ensuing......and a lotta Fla PP's too. Brady was upset and wears his heart on his sleeve but he still needs to mature a bit and realize his team need him on the ice. I love the sentiment from Brady but he has to learn to channel it,there was plenty of game left to hammer Fla D-men with an aggressive fore-check instead of running their GT right after they scored to gain momentum.
Three of the Sens top four D-men out and both starting GT's,all replaced by kids between 20-22 and not eliminated till April 6th is a good springboard for next year.

Saturday night's 7-4,40-24 SOG victory came after elimination but it ws still important because it also came in front of a packed house. I thought the Bolts woulda been a bit sore after losing 7-2 up there in a spirited affair a few weeks but they can't move up or be caught for 3rd so I guess they were coasting......they BETTER have another gear! And more emotion.
Three of the Sens top four D-men out has given some big minutes to three more young D-men to go along with the kids already in all year,20yro Sanderson has especially benefitted with HUGE minutes and top PP time.
