This is exactly what some people today resort to when they cannot win an argument, they automatically toss out the character assassination without merit for no reason other than they do not like what you said. it's not "character assassination" when you say things to confirm you are the exact thing you are being called that is just a fact there is no argument to win: bigots, racists, sexists and Nazis bad. Period. If you don't agree with that and are thus one of those things then you are a bad person. Period. Since I am Jewish, I have to assume based on the comments of you and the turd above, that you want to kill me. Like I said earlier you are right, we are wrong, we are the bigots, the racists, the Nazis, sexist="bad person". I am sorry that is called character assassination. Please go back and tell me exactly where I attacked your character.

Today, this miserable franchise run by bigots decided to scrap "Pride Night" and side with bigoted players Zaitsev, Kurashev and Khudobin in not wearing the rainbow jerseys during warmups. Those 3 players didn't want to wear them cause they are of Russian descent and believe in Putin's bigotry. So instead of sitting them for a game or letting them make statements about why they didn't wear them when the rest of the team did (or might have) they just got rid of the entire thing altogether. Pathetic. How this organization has any fans left is beyond me. If I were part of the LGBTQ community I would be livid right now. It's always fun and interesting when social issues come up for discussion on a website where different ideas on the issue can be expressed. This is one of them. At first, my gut reaction was that the Hawks were backing down from defying Putin's threat to prosecute those who support, or participate in, activities that promote, or support the LGBTQ community. However, I quickly realized that since I did not have the exact wording of the Russian statue which forbids this, it is impossible to really get at the guts of this issue. In addition, since Putin is, without a doubt, a raving imbecile, idiot and bigot who deserves to no longer be existing on this planet as a living being, who knows what he might try to do to any Russian player upon that player's return to "Mother Russia" after having violated the law. One must ask whether a player could be prosecuted/punished in Russia after his return for: a. Merely being on roster of the Hawks, even if he did not particpate in the pre-game skate while wearing the "unlawful jersey"; b. Skating in the pre-game skate without wearing the jersey, because he was obviously assisting the team in promoting the unlawful activity; c. Not skating in the pre-game skate, but playing in the game under the same support theory of law violation; and d. Any number of any other bases for prosecution no matter what the player did. If the threat of prosecution/punishment, including physical abuse is a genuine threat under the Russian law, would it be fair to the Russian players to put them in that position no matter what the Hawks did with regard to the pre-game skate so that the only reasonable choice was to cancel the pre-skate with the LGBTQ jerseys? It seems there is a reasonable argument that those Russian players might have a legitimate reason to want the team to cancel the proceeding. After what Putin has done in his own country to Russian citizens and in Ukraine to innocent people, I can easily believe that he might physcially harm these players to make examples of them, no matter what they did, or didn't do, if the Hawks were to use the jerseys. On the other hand, it also seems possible that the players were merely using the threat as a pretext to get the team to cancel because they are bigots and cannot stand the idea of the LGBTQ community having any positive standing in the world. This possibility gets support from the fact that other teams have had pre-skates while using the jerseys; and essentially, thumbed their noses at that asshole Putin; or perhaps, they had no Russian players who had expressed fear of prosecution/punishment upon return to the homeland. In the end, I don't know the best answer about how to respond, but it is just another example of living in a world in which we are surrounded by prejudiced, bigoted morons who choose to discriminate and hate other people simply because they ain't white, Christian and heterosexual. One doesn't have to go to Putin's Russia to find them. There are plenty of those assholes in this country, mostly in the states that formerly were members of the Confederate States of America. It's another reason I am glad I am closer to death than birth.

The truth is,this was a settled issue until recently with wide-spread league AND player support. Many straight players made public appearances in support of 'the community' like Brent Sopel marching in a 'pride' parade in support of Brian Burke's son.......which he still does. What's changed? Why are these HARMLESS people who only seek the same rights and respect as you and I do now called dangerous 'groomers' of children? We know why,the rhetoric has gotten to a fevered pitch and the message has been received. How in the hell can a widely condemned, homophobic law passed in Russia stripping their gay population of rights and protections by a violent Demigod drive the policy of a major North American sports league? What would happen to an American or Canadian player in Russia if they took a public stand against government policy? 'Cup o tea' from Vlad? Fall out a window? What if one of these Russians decide to boycott a military theme night because America is supplying and supporting the Ukraine against their treacherous thug of a leader that they faithfully support? What then? What if a true Christain player boycotted the same military theme night because his God's first commandment is 'Thou shall not kill' and his Lord and savior said 'turn swords into plowshares'? What then? Would this good Christian be called 'anti-military' or 'woke' and pay a big price? I'm a baptized Christian too but maybe a 'better' Christian can point-out the book(s)in the Bible instructing me to exclude or cast-off any group, this simply wasn't Christ's teachings. Since it's safe to assume almost all of Reimer and Provorov's teammates are also baptized Christians........were they 'bad' Christians for wearing the jersey in warm-ups? Will this kid be allowed to play on a NHL team if he has Russian teammmates or would Vladdy disagree....... people.com/sports/openly-gay-nhl-prospect-luke-prokop-calls-out-players-boycotting-pride-night/Individual players do have a right to speak their minds in a free country,God knows these Russians who only come here to make millions with every intention to return afterward and fully support their barbaric leader won't be able to speak their minds once they return or they'll get the 'cop o tea' or fall out a window too! The thing is,now that three NHL franchises have caved into the Kremlin, how can they now do ANY jersey-night? If the 'rainbow' jersey is the only one excluded, than that's exclusion. How about 'toenail fungus' night.........that shit's fucked up!LOL!

I'm just curious, are the inclusionary policies like 'Hockey is for everybody' that the league has practiced for over a decade now a political or 'woke' statement? It was widely accepted as a social vs a political issue until recently........why now?

It was widely accepted as a social vs a political issue until recently........why now? Just an honest question. Can hockey not be for “everyone” without a night for them? I don’t want politics or social issues in the sport. If it happens directly to someone in the sport, the sport should surround them. Like bullying, hazing, racist behaviour etc. it doesn’t have to be anymore complicated than that. Do the right thing. If someone is being sexually abused. Step in and take care of it. The Hawks failed on so many levels and the only good news outta that is the attention it drew and I don’t believe that’ll happen again. But we don’t need a night for victims of abuse to show we care. I can’t think of one breathing soul that actually wants sexual abuse, so why have a night for it? There’s laws for that stuff. This is a sporting event. Not a forum for one side of the political aisle. I’m not gonna go on and on. But we don’t need to host a night to show we care. I do believe most care about everyone’s individual rights. And if they don’t? It’s their right not to. We cannot be “holier than thou” and tell people their 1st amendment rights or privileges do not apply because you disagree with them. And that’s what’s happening. Now, let’s get back to hockey!!!

People were accepting at first but it has gotten out of hand (just like any other movement, i am not singling out this topic). It was great at the beginning when they were fighting for equality and be recognized, but the current issues now are biological males trying to be everywhere with females, and mutilating kids. Then you have these morons popping up saying youre either with them or youre against them. Its hurting what the earlier activists are fighting for and making them all look bad.

But I don’t like being coerced into showing my support for causes. I don’t want to wear an LGBTQ shirt; nor a cross; nor a turban because whatever group I’m part of insists that we all wear them. So in some folks’ eyes I need to be canceled because I won’t actively support their pet causes.

It is pure capitalism at work, this ain't no woke campaign. The NHL doesn't give a shit about some lesbian, veteran or woman who has just been turned down for a job, or sexually harrassed. But, it does give a shit if they can be made to spend some of their coins on tickets or merchandise.

If you feel they do have the same rights......why oppose supporting those rights? The issue has taken a turn for the worse only recently due to the need for a boogey-man who's different to point fingers at,like using this made-up issue of transsexual 'grooming' and calling gender-affirmation child mutilation. Scores of teen age transgendered kids have committed suicide due to this type of approach. Gay men and women are no more prone to child molestation than straight men and women and who's 'groomed' more children than the Catholic church? How do you get a priest to stop hittin' on you.....introduce him to your little brother. "It was great in the begining",but there's always push-back when our country makes gains in civil rights. It took a war that cost a half million lives to end slavery and another century to give those former enslaved people civil and voting rights. Those rights barely passed and had massive societal push-back too.......costing the party that endorsed them the south forever. Same-sex marriage is a fairly recent development and even though it's supported by a majority of the country,it's also now the catalyst for the recent push-back too. I've called no one a moron or any other name so far and I won't and no one has to support gay rights but.....you either do or you don't.

The only things cancelled by three different NHL franchises were prior planned pride jersey nights because of some condemned Russian law or twisted religious belief. If supporting rights for a segment of the population in need of rights is a "pet" cause, what in the hell is supporting a sports team?

This for or against with no middle ground bothers me a bit. I like to think I believe in treating everyone fairly and not persecuting anyone for their beliefs. Were any of the players who refused to support this cause disciplined in ANY way let alone cancelled? The only things cancelled by three different NHL franchises were prior planned pride jersey nights because of some condemned Russian law or twisted religious belief. If supporting rights for a segment of the population in need of rights is a "pet" cause, what in the hell is supporting a sports team? Supporting a sports team is most certainly a “pet cause”.

I wonder what the league would say if a player who is anti-war refused to wear a camouflage jersey in pregame and honor veterans or active military…. Like ANY other athlete who's ever protested ANY other cause..........there'd be HELL to pay. Just speakin' their minds this time though.

let me just say this first - i am not against LGBTQ. I am not condemning their life and they have the same rights as everybody. about your question, i think, just my IMO, this whole LGBTQ movement/political issue is taking a turn for the worse. I've called no one a moron or any other name so far and I won't and no one has to support gay rights but.....you either do or you don't. point out where i oppose supporting those rights. the only opposition im seeing here is for having a different opinion why is it "you either do or you dont"? there is no middle ground? If there is a pride parade in my street and i choose to sit in my house and watch a hockey game on tv. Does that mean i am opposing the support for their rights? what if a hockey team spends time and money promoting LGBTQ businesses and enterprises but canceled their players from wearing pride jerseys, the conclusion is what? Theyre not supporting them? If i tell you i have a trans kid, who was born female and is having a mastectomy to be a man, but i still think this LGBTQ thing is getting out of hand, would my argument hold more weight or would it still be the same? This whole thing reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when Kramer didnt want to wear the ribbon in the AIDS walk. "This is America! I dont have to wear anything I dont want to wear!". comedy gold
