It made me laugh when he was talking about PLD and teams not wanting to pay a ransom to get him when he's a UFA after next season, the last GM did it with Seth. And talking about the Canucks wanting to shed salary and staying in the top 20 sounds like a great opportunity for the Hawks to move up to 11, they can take on 2 big contracts like Myers and Boeser and give them back assets like Murphy (half retained) and an rfa like Mitchell or C.Jones, I'd even add a forward like Blackwell or Bjork. Hawks can then draft Barlow or Danielson at 11.

Soo, the clock is ticking. Only 8 more days to the draft. Expectations high as every year awaiting each morning a big trade announcement. Let's see if this year will finally fulfill my expectations...

Isn't that collusion? It would be interesting if SJ took him anyway - although with this report out there it seems highly unlikely now.

funny, before I came to this board today I was reading elsewhere that he wasn't talking to certain teams. now I see this article... certainly seems to me like he is angling towards picking the team that picks him...

Should be banned from the draft until his contract is over. Then if he's serious about playing in the NHL, enter thru the draft and play for any team that picks him
Can't have any player trying to force where he ends up

seems the caps are hellbent on drafting michkov but it's funny...in this article one of their scouts seems to be leading the parade in exposing all of the player's character flaws. is that basically to scare away other teams from drafting him? myself...i would be extremely leery. Washington scout and former player Andrei Nikolishin shared some character concerns surrounding the 18-year-old.
"Full-fledged information is collected about the player: how he talks to partners, how he communicates with coaches, how he behaves off the ice. Many nuances can be revealed, I can show correspondence when I wanted to meet him and, as a scout, ask a few questions and do an interview... I have not seen such disrespect for other people in my life." "For me, he's first or second [based on skill]," Nikolishin added. "But in character, in relation to teammates, coaching staff, management, fans -- a person has now fallen very low in the eyes of all scouts, all managers."
the article goes on to speculate... When it comes down to it, teams can't exactly validate or reject those claims of character concerns without interviewing him. Rumors are also swirling as to whether Michkov's inflexibility and unavailability are being used to help him move down to go to a preferred team.

No matter who is pulling the strings the NHL can't let it happen. It could lead to nothing but bad things for future drafts. Could you imagine if Bedard or his agents said he'll only play for Pittsburgh simply because Crosby is his favorite player? Or he wants to play for Vancouver because it's where he's from? There's a reason there's a draft. You can not have any 18 year old or their agents running it.

True, and even though I joke about it, kids really shouldn't pull a Lindros.

I seem to recall something like this happening with Mario Lemieux. Can't remember if it was him or his father who was trying to nullify the pick.

Can't remember if it was him or his father who was trying to nullify the pick. i don't recall this at all. i thought you might have been remembering eric lindros being drafted. turns out you were correct. from his wiki page... Before the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Lemieux announced that he wanted to play for whoever drafted him. He and his agent were deadlocked with the Pittsburgh Penguins and could not negotiate a contract. Because of this, when the Penguins called his name as the first overall draft pick, he did not shake general manager Eddie Johnston's hand or don the Penguins jersey, which is NHL tradition. He claimed he was upset about the contract negotiation, and said that "Pittsburgh doesn't want [him] bad enough." Even though the draft was held in Montreal, over 3,000 fans viewed a broadcast in Pittsburgh's Civic Arena—a typical Penguins game drew fewer than 7,000 fans at the time. After the draft, Johnston signed Lemieux to a two-year contract for $600,000, plus a $150,000 bonus for signing.2 things i can take from this article. 1) if i understand this correctly, it seems the pens were able to start contract negotiations with the bona fide #1 pick well before the draft. 2) lemieux was a bit cocky as a kid.

I also remember hockey writer Stan Fischler making a bold prediction...."Spoiled Brat Lemieux will fail in Pittsburgh" I've always wondered if anyone ever invited him to eat that column.

Honestly, it sounds like the same yellow "journalism" as the dude who thinks Nashville will trade all of their picks to Chicago for the #1 overall. I could be wrong though; I'm no insider nor do I claim to be.

Marek is very reputable. He does a podcast with Elliott Friedman who’s the most knowledgeable and reputable on NHL news and info. The new age Bob McKenzie if you will!!!

I could be wrong though; I'm no insider nor do I claim to be. I don’t think the Ducks will do it. But if they did, Mishkov really is that good. He’s probably not as good as Bedard. But every time I seen him he was amazing. He and Bedard led the Under 18 tourney a couple years ago as 15/16 years olds. So it isn’t beyond the realm of imagination that they’d take him. I’d prefer they do. As they won’t be a perennial powerhouse sooner. I think Fantilli will be a very good NHL player. And I doubt he goes back to Michigan!!!

That would be an upset the applecart move. I could see how it might influence Fantilli's decision to return to school - get drafted by Anaheim and play with their young players or get drafted by Columbus and go to OSU territory as the UM star player.

Looking at Mishkov's political situation? I could understand why any team would be leery. That being said I don't think he falls too far because there will be a high-picking team who is willing to wait, but I think Fantilli goes 2nd; much less overall risk in my opinion.

Imagine being a GM and telling your owner your #2, 3 or even 4th overall pick isn’t coming over now and your rebuild will take much longer? They’ll kill you then fire you. So, I believe at a certain spot it’s ok to take him. Like Arizona and Philly would be the lowest he falls. Arizona/Salt Lake City is far enough along in their rebuild that they have the luxury to take that chance. Philly hasn’t even dissected their roster yet, so it would be ok for them to grab him too!!!

He falls no further than #8 Washington. I have seen some "insane" opinions he might even fall to #19, that is absolutely crazy and would the Hawks take him.

Even if the Hawks move up, and he was there, they’d have to take him. There’s only two players in this draft with the upside of Mishkov, Bedard and Fantilli. Mishkov is one of the best players we’ll see. He’s something else. I don’t believe he gets past pick #4. I actually think the BJs take him!!!
