maybe a bit early, but as this draft is likely going to be the most interesting (and consequential) one we've had in a while, why not? anyhoo....The Hockey News put out their mid-season top 50. might be interesting to refer to down the road. interesting the guy had michkov at #5. thehockeynews.com/news/ferraris-2023-nhl-draft-rankings-mid-season-top-50question. i know we are guaranteed at worst the #3 pick if we finish dead last. and we have an 18.5% chance at first overall. does anyone know what the odds are of a top 2 pick? (assuming we finish last)

25% to get first pick , 43% to get second, 100% to get third

Bedard or Fantilli would be amazing additions. The latter sounds a little Ovie-like with the size and deadly shot from anywhere in the o-zone.

Remember the old saying about how a lawyer in court never asks a question he/she doesn't already know the answer to.
Do you think the Blackhawks will go upfront with their first pick?
Unless I'm missing someone, or underrating someone, Nazar and Reichel look like the only prospects in the system with the skill and ability and potential to play in the top 6, and put up offense. They've got to add more.
With it said to be a deep draft, hopefully by the time the Hawks second 1st. rd. pick from Tampa comes up, there will still be a very good prospect available.

Sam Rinzel may end up playing in the top six...he is making good progress.

There are some who would take over Bedard. Looks like either would be fine. Fantilli does have something Bedard doesn’t have, size. The upcoming WJHC’s hopefully clear things up a bit. Also Leo Carlson is suiting up for Sweden. Another possibility.

Another possibility. Are all 3 NHL ready - or would a year in Rockford be better for them? Bedard would be held to the CHL/NHL age rule and couldn’t be sent to the AHL. Carlson, if drafted out of a Euro program wouldn’t be held to that clause and thus could play in the AHL. My understanding of NCAA drafted players is if they give up eligibility to sign a contract they can also play minor pro. Whether all three or some are pro ready remains to be seen. Not sure what the best for any of them in the current situation might be.

“The Chicago Blackhawks would like to congratulate the Dallas Stars on their epic Stanley Cup win. Thank you to the fine folk of Nashville for their hospitality this week. With the first overall selection in the 2023 entry draft. Chicago Blackhawks are very proud to select from the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey league………… Connor Bedard!!”

I may actually head to Nashville for the draft. Especially if the Hawks have the 1st. I was in Columbus for Kane. And I know the mics on stage don’t pic up much crowd noise. Or TV for that matter. But I remember screaming when Tallon paused. I screamed with all my might, PATRICK KANE!!!!!!! The consensus was that the Hawks would take Turris so they could have Toews and Turris down the middle. But great move getting Kane. On a side note. I’ve said this before here. I met Alexei Charapanov’s dad. I was talking with a Columbus real estate agent. She was a puck bunny and was of Russian decent. I told her I knew some Russian ( from my father I law) and “that guy over there is Russian”. She asked me, “how the hell do you know that?”. I said because is head is square. So she went and talked to him in Russian and did the gesture of a square head and pointed at me. He laughed historically and came over and we talked with her as a translator. He bought me like 3 beers. Gave me 6 hugs and I told him in my best Slavic that I wished his son well and he should be proud. When I seen his son died on the bench, I was literally in tears. His dad is awesome and I’m sure his son was too. Anyways. I’ve known Paul Maurice since I was a little lad. When he played or my Spitfires. He recognized me at the draft and came over and we chatted for about 20 mins. He’s the greatest guy you’ll ever meet. The league needs more guys like him. The draft is actually a lot of fun. I’ve been to two. Detroit had one in the 80s and me and my dad went. I was like 8-9. The only jersey I had was an Oilers jersey and I believe that was roughly when I became a Hawks fan. Maybe a year or so later. But always a good time!!!

I was at the United Center one for the Jokiharu draft.
Optimism was high then.

Watching -- or suffering through -- Hawks' games, the lack of high end hockey skill is just overwhelming (or underwhelming, I guess). Hopefully, with three first-rounders in 22, and two in 23, that skill is going to show up. It almost doesn't matter whether the Hawks the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. They can only improve. They do have a plethora of 4th liners on their roster now.

If the cap is going to go up to even 92 million. This summer is the time to look to a free agent or 2. Get a couple of really good players for around 7-8 million on 6-7 year deals. And they’ll be a bargain in 3-4 years time. Probably won’t get the team outta the bottom 5. But more competitive. Especially if the Hawks get Bedard. So the team has someone to play with Bedard for a few years. And then keep sprinkling in home grown talent and before you know it, the team is stacked!!!

Optimism was high then. i was also there was good time. really enjoyed watching the kids and there family's. the loudest it got was when the Panthers picked. Also saw Jason Robertson and his family hanging out doing an interview thinking he looks tiny and looks like he is twelve years old. Now look at him, shit if we are looking for hope just look at Dallas draft that year. Heiskanen at 3 Oettinger at 26 . Robertson at 39.

Yeah, I was just contemplating who they would want to keep to fill out the roster, even for next season. The potential 4th line candidates: Jujhar, Entwistle, Katchouk, Dickinson, Tyler/Reese Johnson, Kurashev, Lafferty. Plenty to choose from or to discard. I am ignoring Blackwell altogether.
