I see what you are saying, and I agree there should be a couple of young guys who are ready to drop the cloves at the right time. Keep the older guy for a year and then the youngsters should be ready to take over. A tough, young team with some size and a little pack-mentality would be ideal and maybe we see it in time but IMO,the 'proven' intimidator carries more weight......literally and figuratively. Is Ryan Reaves bad at hockey? So what,we want to lose. Does Ryan Reaves take stupid penalties? F@#k with Bedrd and see how stupid he can get! Is there a chance this role is no longer necessary? Is there SOME chance it is? alright, I'm in. Reaves or Lucic or another player of that ilk. sign for 1-2 years and, as 2old said, hopefully then we have a younger player ready to take on that role, hopefully a younger player that can also contribute in other areas.

LAS VEGAS -- Connor Bedard still isn't ready to admit what the rest of the hockey world has long assumed: that he'll be selected No. 1 overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in this month's NHL draft.
"If they decide to take me, that would be unbelievable," the 17-year-old forward told reporters Monday ahead of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. "But we'll see what happens."
Bedard said he will have 30 guests -- a mix of family, friends and coaches -- with him for the event in Nashville.
I'm still a kid': Hockey's next superstar Connor Bedard staying grounded ahead of the draft
The NHL invited Bedard and other top prospects to Las Vegas to take in the Stanley Cup Final experience. They toured the Golden Knights' practice facility in the morning -- Bedard said he was impressed by just how many sticks players had outside the locker room.
He also met players from both the Golden Knights and Florida Panthers, and said the overwhelming piece of advice was to "enjoy the moment."
Bedard said he's learning to get used to the spotlight.
"It's definitely something you've got to get used to; I'm still obviously a kid," Bedard said. "There's a lot of outside noise surrounding myself and a lot of these guys. For me, I try to look at it as a positive. I've been very fortunate to have a lot of these experiences ... World Juniors and being here, these are things that not everybody gets to do. So I'm really grateful for that."
Bedard said it was his first time in Las Vegas, and he was soaking in the city's unique flavor.
"Getting off at the airport and seeing the slot machines, I've never really seen that before," he said.
Bedard is coming off one of the greatest junior hockey careers of all time, including scoring 143 points (71 goals, 72 assists) in 57 regular-season games this season for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League. The 5-foot-10 centers swept the CHL's end-of-season awards, being named the Top Prospect, Top Sorer and David Branch Player of the Year; it's the first time a player has taken home all three in a single season.
Bedard is known for his wicked shot -- which Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon told ESPN is "already one of the best in the world."
Up next for Bedard is a trip to Buffalo for the NHL scouting combine, which begins Wednesday.

When Will Smith was asked about what stood out showing up to game 2 of the Stanley Cup final, he said the cars, Bedard said the amount of hockey sticks they had, gotta love this kid.

I still have mine.....
Always gotta ask 33 or 52 ? I got a heads-up about his day with the cup up in Roseau well in advance from a few sources, our old pal LeoLeo was one of em,so I took a blank 'black' jersey I had and had it lettered up for the event.....I went with 33. The legend of the Big Fella ballooning in the offseason were always a bit overblown,he hadn't played hockey for over two months at that point(mid August)and training camp was only three weeks away.......I'd love to be that out of shape!LOL! I don't think reporting @285lbs,20lbs over was uncommon though but neither was losing that 20lbs during camp.......'old school' stuff. His Mom told me since he really couldn't wear Hawks' gear at the event,he gave a nod to Chicago by wearing a Sox cap and a John Hancock building t-shirt.

Big Buff was very instrumental with the 2010 cup win, his battles with Pronger and game 5 impressive 2 goals and 2 assists to help Hawks win 7-4 won and one game away for first cup in 49 years. Not sure it was possible but Bowman needed to do whatever he could to keep him, worse the trade he made for Big Buff along with Eager and Sopel never panned out. Jeremy Morin the highly regarded prospect never developed more than journeyman and the picks well those also did not bear any fruit.

They had an interview with Andrew Cristall, another likely very high 2023 pick who played with Bedard when he was younger 6-7 years old and he tells the story back then Bedard was great and dominated games. Cristall also along with Kent Johnson of the Blue Jackets plays inline hockey with Bedard in the summers growing up and he says Bedard is incredible on his wheels and his shot is lethal.

I know one coach and goalie for sure that had no answer for Big Buff, Alain Vigneault and Bobby Lu.

He also was a fast skater too, finished a half a second slower than McDavid at the skills competition one year. '

' Hopefully we can find someone like him to be part of the core going forward, although not many like him out there. It would have to be a football or basketball player growing up who then also is playing hockey. Hockey is an expensive sport compared to basketball and all the late ice practices and the long car rides to and from can be tough on both the player and parents.
