yeah....70 is pretty young. i guess it goes to show that although money might buy you happiness, it can't buy good health.
maybe a bit premature to speculate but if danny is named owner, would he retain his CEO title?

That's strange his dad passed before Toews and Kane and now Rocky before Bedard. Was he the last with ties to 2010?

Rest in peace Rocky - I hope you do. Thank you for all you did for the Blackhawks and all Hawks fans.
As a lifelong Chicagoan who cheered for all Chicago teams - it was irksome that for such a large market, Chicagoans were cursed with cheap owners who never seemed to go the extra yard to pay for championship players - until Rocky took over for his dad and brought us 3 Cups "NOT on the cheap".
And only a year older than me - far too young.

Besides the Stanley Cups, Rocky oversaw the return of Pat Foley, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, the statues being built for those men, putting all home games on TV. He also had a rink built not only for the Hawks practice facility, but before that was built he had one for the kids to learn the game.

YT says it was meant to start at 10 AM here but it's already about 10:30 am. it's already getting quite late in chicago (10:30 pm) so hopefully on soon if it hasn't started already.

It's sad how the actions of one player and how it was handled will tarnish the many great things he did for the organization. His father didn't care about the fans but Rocky did and it was great seeing him sitting amongst the fans. RIP Rocky.

"Rocky Wirtz....has passed away...after a brief illness." covid 19? Whatever it was, I hope it wasn't painful. Best if he went in his sleep.
It seems to me that his biggest mistake was losing his temper with the press. It wasn't his finest hour. But we will remember all the good things he accomplished with the Hawks, regardless.

Not to go off topic, but one's economic status is the best predictor of one's health and longevity. All the same, Rocky was certainly not that old. I guess we all have an expiration date, and best we can do is to try and stay healthy for as long as possible -- so keep on cycling, GT ! I guess it truly is the new era for the Hawks franchise.

this from the captain. "Being a Blackhawk all these years has been special because you felt you were part of a family. Not only with the players and the organization, but with the fans and the greater Chicago community. Rocky Wirtz led this example every day. I knew Rocky to be a humble, caring person. He showed how to be an incredible businessman that brought the emotion and excitement of 3 championships to Chicago, while maintaining the most genuine and sincere relationships with all those who worked for him. I owe so much to him and his family for making all of my dreams of being a professional hockey player come true. I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. My sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his wife Marilyn, his son Danny, and to the rest of the Wirtz family."www.nbcsportschicago.com/nhl/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-news/jonathan-toews-releases-statement-following-rocky-wirtzs-death/497449/

I believe the sexual assault, the cover up and his outburst at the town meeting weighed heavily on Rocky's shoulders and contributed to his health problems and untimely death. I truly believe (but could be wrong) that Rocky knew about the sexual assault and thus the heavy weight on his shoulders and guilty conscience led to his outburst. This heavy weight will be passed on to Danny if he takes ownership of the Hawks. Danny has big big decisions to make. Does he take ownership or does he sell the team. Is a totally clean slate (selling the team) the way to go? I think so. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wirtz family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wirtz family. if i had to guess yes or no i'd say yes...rocky had to know. having said that, i listened to zawaski's podcast today and i heard them say that john mcdonough told rocky that he'd only tell him 5% of what was going on (basically not bothering with the small stuff). that may be true but i'd have to think the beach incident would've made the 5%. anyways, others here or outside these boards might disagree, but to me it's a done deal. kyle beach got his restitution and i think all involved are gone from the team. and i don't mean to sound harsh but rocky's untimely passing puts even more distance between the beach incident and the organization. do they sell the team? i can't see it unless the whole thing weighs so heavy on danny that he feels compelled to sell.
