I saw Beck at both places… he was at comiskey.. with Rick Derrenger and Aero Smith and Jan hammer.. back in those days they say if you remember things you weren’t there… lol I remember Beck was playing when someone set a fire in the upper deck of left field that got pretty big… Beck asked in the microphone what should he do..looking back at his band and the crowd said play.. and he played to the flames roaring.. That was the years of jazz fusion.. guys like Stanley Clark, Chic Corea, Al Dimeola.. Jean-Luc panty great drummer Billy Cobham … and of course my man Frank Zappa..and many more. edit: one of my favorite albums from Beck is “Blow by Blow”… that’s some bad ass music… “I got my head out the window and my bear feet on the ground”…. Great lyrics.. )) Carlos Santana also brought a latin/jazz type fusion to music in the era and very much like Beck, was an absolute virtuoso of the instrument. 'Europa' is my go-to driving tune for every long trek up north and back....... www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlW8rblRbMwPhrasing and improvisation flowed from Santana much like Beck. Okay......which one of you young bucks(at the time.......LOL) started that fire? I do remember it though. I also remember two summers later, waking up,hung over to Steve Dahl saying "You were BAAAAAD little Coho Lips last night",after another fire broke-out. Me and a few other knuckleheads from Cicero were gonna make 'Disco Demolition night' but we musta got distracted by something even dumber.....God knows we didn't stay away due to common sense! 'Beck's Bolero' was my early Beck favorite..........along with a little somethin' to alter the mood of course....... www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmO0OZC6IfkThis is Beck playing the same tune @72 years old, you'd think the six decades of playing that amount would have led to arthritis or something else to affect his playing but he somehow got better as he got elderly........how TF is that even possible?..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvpeIKI4ZiQ

As far as the fire… I was in the infield… I remember asking the coppers if I could sit in the visitor dugout.. my oldest brother was a copper on the west side Bob, the 15th district Austin Neighbourhood, on the tac. Force.. one cop knew him and let me sit down… I remember thinking damn Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey mantle… Ted Williams and many more sat here.. I grew up a couple blocks from Columbus park… Jackson and Laramie… went to resurrection.

Spent some time in Austin myself,Norh Ave/Austin Blvd area(how about the old Golden Jet restaurant?),then we moved to the 'Island',right across the Ike from Columbus park back in '69'. Played the course a bunch of times and we skated on the frozen lagoon when we dared and the tennis courts when they froze them. My older brother went to Lane Tech and I went to Prosser VHS......Austin HS was pretty rough by that point. Legend had it, 'The Babe' used to trot across 35th Street in his cleats,to McCuddy's for a hotdog and a cold one occasionally in between innings........had to be quite the sight.

'Athlete's Feats' with Bruce Wolfe and then Bob Verdi was a great way to start a day my friend.... www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2023/1/23/23566899/lin-brehmer-personal-remembrance-appreciationwww.barstoolsports.com/blog/3453493/rest-in-peace-to-chicago-rock-dj-legend-and-die-hard-cubs-fan-lin-brehmerI can still remember listening to 'XRT' back when they were a nighttime only and the first real progressive rock station and they're still 'Chicago's Finest Rock' though all of the corporate buy-outs and radio's loss of listeners to streaming services!

Indeed… it became the 70’s generation hippy station, they played music other stations wouldn’t. Top notch music that wasn’t pushed or thought of on other radio stations.. opened up and enlightened people to other great bands and music. The loop came around in 1977 with all there personalities and main stream rock in 1977.. but the great thing about XRT is they stayed true to their format for many years.. And Lin Brehmer was one of those guys who introduced a lot of great music. Bruce Wolfe was great… enjoyed him and some of his impressions..

Agree with both of you guys about XRT and what a great station it’s been through thick and thin and with pretty low turnover of DJs. Must be a good place to work despite the ownership changes, etc. My car radio is tuned to 93.1 as it has been forever although when my wife rides with me I don’t always get to listen- lol!!

Geez, I’m heart broken, my hero died. My favorite player of all sport. Spent some fun time with Bobby tipping a few and listening to his stories in the past. He had a way of telling a story that would crack you up.. I have 3 of his game used sticks photos publications, Hanging on a wall he signed for me over the years.. his story on YouTube about Bobby Orr was typically him, he had a witty sense of humor. He was gracious and kind and would talk to everyone at shows when he signed, I helped out at one of his signings once. The show promoters liked him, but they said if he didn’t take so much time with everyone he could sign more and make more money…But that wasn’t Bobby.. he loved the public was always obliging when people wanted a picture or had a question. When he played In the the old barn he would sign autographs after the pre game skate until the last minute at times.. He truly was one of if not Chicago’s finest.

Raquel Welch passed away. R.I.P. One Million Years B.C. One of the first movies I saw in a theatre. Every generation has their fantasy icon and this was mine, even though I’m not sure I was even old enough yet to understand why she affected me like she did.

You mean Ann-Margrock? I think I first saw her on The Flintstones.
